1. Prologue

The woman, tired and bent, hurried through the forest they would be upon her soon. If she could just get out of the forest she would be safe, in her arms she held  a small  wolf pup, white as snow with a little pink nose that curiously sniffed the air as she moved at a speed she didn't know possible. The scents of the forest whipped past, the pup couldn't decide if they came and went quicker than the flying creatures or not. However, before she was really able to ponder this most important question the forest had disappeared. The two burst out of the forest, one completely out of breath. The town folk pretended to be oblivious to the twig ridden, wheezing old lady. Some couldn't stop themselves from looking at her strangely as they passed, but quickly looked away. No one wanted a hex on them or anything. When the woman saw the few onlookers she silently took the leaves and twigs out of her hair frizzy hair and hid the pup underneath her loose garments. This was one of the only two females pups in the pack. The other was a soft grey only because she hadn't had the rare albino gene passed down to her. Once she had regained herself, the woman swiftly paced to her little house up the hill.

Upon reaching the top and out of the sight of the superstitious town folk she placed the pup on a worn wooden table, carved from a birch tree scorned by a forest fire a hundred years before. The sun shone warmly on the table, making the pup quite sleepy. Even more so the events of the past night had kept the pup up. The woman allowed herself a sigh of relief, as the pup wouldn't be causing any trouble for the spell. Beside the pup already lay a girl, around the age of six. A white dress harshly contrasted her raven black hair. A necklace lay around her neck, a pendant of the sun and moon were the only things that would weigh down the single leather string. The girl was not awake, and didn't react to the pup snuggling up next to her. The woman stood in front of the two souls and read from old leather-bound book. Tears began to well in her eyes as she chanted.

"wonna shen woe shen cay lan chen

man het con ist ish caw lachoom,

wonna shen woe shen cay lan chen!

man het ist ish caw lachoom"

Once she had finished the words a light at the chest of the small pup and girl started to glow. It grew brighter and brighter until it outshone the sun! But, as soon as the light had came it left. Finally able to look at the table again the woman saw only the girl. The girl's eyes started to flutter open and the woman could no longer hold back her tears. She held the almost conscious girl close to herself and just sobbed for the longest time. The girl only was able to look around, not yet strong enough to do much of anything else. Her frail, thin arms and legs were in no condition to support the girl's body. Really, the only thing she was aware of was a deep hunger and thirst for anything, but had no way to communicate this to the woman. Eventually the woman was able to compose herself and bring the girl some water and very light soup, which the girl consumed as if she had not eaten before in her life, and in very limited ways signal for more.
