7. The Call

I knew I was going to win the moment we made the bet, I just let him think I was a weak bowler now. Sucker. He was always so gullible. He did put on a good game but in the end, I had it in the bag. I kicked his ass then wiped the floor with him. One of the highest scores they had there. I was pretty proud of myself.

We left the ally and went for some ice cream. We were singing to the radio when his phone started going off. He pulled it out of his pocket and handed it to me.

"Who is it?" He asked.

"Unknown." I said looking at the caller ID.

"Can you please answer it?" He asked. He turned down the radio. He almost seemed nervous. \

I nodded and answered it, "Hello?"

A girls voice screeched through the phone, "Oh my gosh! You have got to be kidding me! I'm going to kill Luke! You tell him to stop whoring around! He promised me he was done with that! Don't fall for him, he's a real ass!"

"Ummm... Who is this?" I asked really confused.

"Its my sister, put it on speaker." Luke laughed.

Luke had a sister? I never knew that. He lived with his grandma alone. Maybe she was older and lived with someone else. I looked at him really confused then put the phone on speaker.

"Gwyneth Naomi, watch your mouth! You are speaking to a real lady here. Remember that girl I told you about? Sage? This is her." He laughed.

"Ohhhhhh! Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry! I thought she was Nat! You know I don't like that girl! Hello Sage Jolie! The names Gwen! I'm sure Luke hasn't said anything about me. I live in Florida with our dad. Luke, I was wondering if you were coming down this summer. I'm going to be a freshmen next year and dad is going to be gone! I need you here for a little bit. Please." She begged.

Luke ran his fingers through his hair, "Yeah, I think I can do that. I will be there for you doll."

"Thanks Luke! Oh and Sage. I meant what I said, don't fall for this boys charm. He's not worth it. Love you bro!" She laughed.

"You too sis!" He laughed back.

I have never seen Luke like that. He seemed really happy when he talked to his sister. She must have got him. They could joke around and he wouldn't be mad about it. I wondered how he felt about living so far away from her. I couldn't live without Jack. He was so young and he needed me. Gwen really must of needed him. Maybe Sam was right. Maybe I didn't have Luke pinned the right way. Maybe he was a good guy after all.

The smile didn't stray away from his face after his phone call ended. He walked me to the door of my house. My mom wasn't home and neither was Jack. I looked up at Luke. He almost reminded me of the old Luke. The one I missed so much.

"This sweat shirt was yours." I said.

"Indeed. It looks good on you though." He laughed tugging on the hem of it.

I nodded, "About that night-"

"Sage. Don't even bring it up." He whispered.

"We need to talk about it. I fell like its the thing that's holding our friendship back."

He shook his head, "You don't get it! I don't want to talk about the worst night of my life! Just drop it Sage!" He backed away from me.

"Luke-"

"No Sage! I got to go!" He ran off. I could hear the jeep start then pull away. I didn't move though. it was like the rolls switched or something. He has always wanted to talk about that night and now that I'm ready, he's not? The only other person who knows is Sam and Sam is dead.

A tear fell from my eye. What am I doing? Samuel is dead and I'm just trying to bring up the past. It's buried for a reason. It's time I just let go. Luke has.

I let out a scream of frustration. Why was I think about Luke? He didn't matter! He was just Samuel's dumb friend! He was nothing! He wasn't Sam! He had no future, no hope! He was trash compared to Sam! Why would I even waste my time with Luke? Sam was wrong. I had the right idea about Luke and it would never be challenged again.
