Life Isn't a Fanfiction

Selena’s POV

Well, crap. I mean, I liked One Direction and Ed was okay, too, but the girls were flipping out. The screams echoing through the car were unbelievably loud. Dakota was crying, Sasha was frozen in shock, Victoria was staring at Aria, open-mouthed, and Aria was sitting there in the middle of the havoc she’d created, smirking. I smiled at her, glad that she was able to do this; make them freak out so bad. It was a talent I really liked and shared.

“You have to be kidding,” Dakota murmured.

“Nope, I’m telling the truth. They’re opening.” Aria was grinning, much more herself than she had been. “Now chill out guys. As much as I hate to say it, nothing special’s going to happen. Life isn’t a fanfiction.”

Dakota said something that sounded like “I wish.” I rolled my eyes and looked out the window, even happier than I had been a few minutes ago. I was pretty sure a good part of it was that Aria was acting like herself: Aria, the Vampire Queen. The girls laughed a little and the glee was obvious in all their eyes.

We all just started doing our own thing: Aria taking out a huge book that must have been five inches thick, leafing through it as Victoria and her murmured about the plot and characters, Sasha singing along to the song playing, Dakota reading a fanfiction on her own ipod, and me watching all of them, just enjoying spending time together. We didn’t even have to be talking, just being together. I saw Aria roll her eyes and surrender the book that I knew was hers over to Victoria, who excitedly turned to a page near the end, smiling widely.

I leaned my head out the window and stared out into space. Aria was still quiet, but it seemed to be a more peaceful quiet. The girls were absorbed and their activities and the Laikens were talking to each other in the front seat. I could just feel the undercurrent of excitement.
