©Molly Looby No way. I knew I was dying. I knew I was dying fast, but this hit me like a speeding bullet. How long did I have left, years, months, weeks? Days...?

For Ali-Rose life is just a fading moment. Fighting from her inevitable death is the only thing she can do to save her family from the grief that is sure to engulf them. But something on the horizon is about to change her life...

(This is a Twilight fanfic set twelve years after the end of 'Breaking Dawn', but not from Bella's POV, from the POV of Ali-Rose - all will be revealed if you care to read on.)

(Author's Note: Before you read Mattie, please can I just point out that it was written when I was fourteen-fifteen years old, and it was also the first thing I ever wrote and finished, for my own benefit and that of a close friend. I know it has its flaws and I'm okay with that because this story made me grow as an author more than I could've imagined. I truly hope you enjoy it.)

I SPENT MY FIRST WEEK TRULY BEING A VAMPIRE. I fought with Emmett, raced with Edward, never sleeping, never growing tired. I also spent a lot of time writing my story, I couldn’t forget anything - I wouldn’t. I finished it within my second week, happy that I had forever saved my memories. I noticed that Alice had been keeping something from me, my new senses picking it up easily. She trotted into the living room smiling.

“Alice, what are you hiding from me?”

“A present.” She answered, teasing.

“For what?”

“It’s a late birthday present.”

“Can I have it now?”

“Okay.” She disappeared up the stairs. I knew she would want to give me it, whatever it was. She reappeared downstairs with a box which she handed to me, by this time everyone was in the living room, smiling. I opened the box. It was Renesmee’s tiara.

“Nessie . . .”

“It’s yours.” She answered before I could finish.

“But I’m not eighteen. That was the deal.”

“But you’ll never be eighteen. Now is a good a time as ever.” She smiled. I gazed around at my family, still stunned by their beauty.

“Put it on then.” Alice squeaked.

I picked up the tiara, its diamonds were shinning, sparkling beautifully. The delicate silver shimmered. Tyler took it out if my hands and placed it in my hair. The moment was so special, symbolic somehow. I just sat there and smiled. I still couldn’t believe that this perfect family belonged to me.

I got a shock when I turned on the T.V and saw the date. It was the thirtieth of September. Jasper was at my side, instantly noticing my discomfort.

“What is it?”

“School, they’ll be expecting me. I completely forgot about it.” A plan began to form in my head. “Carlisle?”

“Yes.” He appeared at the bottom of the stairs.

“Can you ring the school? You need to tell them that we’ve moved away or something.”

“Oh yes, I’d forgotten about that.”

“My friends . . . what can I do, I . . .” Another plan formed in my head, it was the only way.

The next day Jacob drove me to Alison’s house, she was at school and her parents were at work. Their house was empty. I climbed up a nearby tree and jumped on to Alison’s windowsill effortlessly. I let myself in using the open window. I gave Jacob a thumbs-up and sat down on Alison’s bed, looking at her posters. I read back through my letter.

Alison, Harriet, Jamie, Jay and Martin,

I’m sorry that I had to leave without saying goodbye but there was an emergency back home – home being America, I never told you that’s where I come from did I? There are a lot of things that I never told you and for that I’m sorry. I will never forget you, I promise. You were the best friends I could have asked for and I never told you how much I needed you. I love you all.

Alice-Rosalie Black

(I thought you deserved to know one thing.)

I folded the letter and placed it on Alison’s pillow. She would find it when she got home. I sighed and made my way back outside again. We weren’t really going back home, not for a while yet, but it would stop them from trying to keep in contact with me. I didn’t like what I was doing, but it was the only way, I had to tie up all the loose ends. I got in the car and didn’t look back, it should have been sad, but it wasn’t. I was pretty sure that Alison would think immediately that I had become a vampire, especially since I had revealed to them my proper name. I was glad to leave them behind. They were safe, and that made me happy. As soon as the car came to a halt I was in Tyler’s arms, who had been waiting for me at the front door. I was consumed by a fiery passionate love, so much stronger than what I had felt before. I kissed him softy and he kissed back with an intense passion which I quickly mirrored. I giggled as we parted, letting Jacob in the front door. He was going to have to get used to the fact that Tyler and I were inseparable. I would never be parted from him now. Death’s shadow had failed to take me from him.

I will love you forever, and forever is how long we have.
