She suddenly becomes the center of envy for girls everywhere, and how will she cope when Harry Freaking Styles says he likes her (and she falls for him!)? 12. Deal

"Everything will be fine. Tia, I promise," Liam says as we board the airplane (and in first class, no less). He puts a calming hand on my shoulder. "In no time, you'll be... Adjusting. It was hard to leave our families too."   I smile at him. "Thanks, Liam. It means a lot to me."   "No problem."   We all take our seats in alphabetical order, so it's Niall and Zayn together (thank God), me and Liam, and lastly Harry and Louis.   A young-looking flight attendant comes around, asking if we'd like anything.   "Do you have any food?" Niall asks sweetly.   "Y-yes, of course, Mr. Horan. We have spaghetti, hamburgers, chicken--"   "I'll have the chicken, please. Do you have potatoes?"   Zayn and I snicker at the same time, and I look away from his gaze awkwardly.   "Yes, we do. Coming right up," she replies, leaving.   Mom always said I was the worst when it came to holding grudges; I really don't let things go so easily. I dissimulate the whole 'turning away and completely ignoring Zayn' act by turning to face Harry instead. "So, Hazza, how long is the flight?"   "Two hours, three tops," he replies. "We'll arrive just when L.A. High lets out, so Liam will accompany you so you can enrolled for next Monday."   "School already?" I whine. "Can't I get a one-, maybe twelve-month break?"   The boys all laugh. "Sorry, doll, there's no chance," Liam smiles at me.   I huff. "Oh well. At least I tried."   The flight attendant returns with Niall's chicken and baked potatoes, and she flashes Zayn a flirty smile. For some reason, I can't help but feel a bit jealous, so I proceed by yelling at myself in my head.   What the hell was wrong with me? First of all, I was still pissed off at Zayn, and second, why am in getting all catty if he isn't anything to me? He's not my boyfriend, so why do I feel this way? I'm going crazy already.   "Miss?"   I look up, startled. Louis and Harry were snickering behind me, and the woman was watching me with a super bored look on her face.   "She asked if you wanted anything," Zayn says quietly.   I blink, embarrassed. "Oh. Sorry. I'll, um, have water please, and uh, maybe some fruit?"   "Fruit?!" Niall asks incredulously, his mouth full of tater. "Are you on a diet or something, Tia?"   I flush a deeper red. "No... Well, kinda. I'm just trying to eat healthy, that's all."   "Water and fruit for the miss, then," the flight attendant sighs. She writes down my order, Zayn's Coke, and some carrots for Louis (although I think it was supposed to be a joke).   "Hey, Tia," Louis calls. "Let's all take a photo before take-off."   "Sure."   We all crowd around Boobear, and I graciously decline Harry's offer to sit on his lap. He looks a bit sad at first, but he gets over it in exactly 2.9 seconds.   "Smile!"   There's a little 'click' as Lou's iPhone takes the picture, and he inspects it.   "Looks great, lads--I mean, uh, people," he says, looking confused. I bet the poor boy didn't know what to call the group now that I joined.   "Don't worry, Louis. I understand," I grin.   He frowns, thinking. "I must come up with a word that refers to all of us without making Tia feel excluded in any way," he says smartly as the rest rush to take their seats.   "You do that," I tease as I take my seat.   "Everyone please buckle your seatbelts and await departure," a man says over the intercom.   Twenty minutes later, we're in the air, and I look out the window as the airport gets smaller and further away. I do cry a little, but I can't deny I was excited.   The only place I had ever gone out-of-state was to visit my mom's sister in Boca Raton, Florida. We had gone to Disneyworld in Orlando and West Palm Beach, but I hardly remember it. I was only five.   Hmm. I wonder if David, Karla, and Ximena knew about what happened to me.   "Who are they?" Liam asks.   Oops. Did I say that out loud? "My cousins. David and Karla are my only cousins from my dad's side, and Ximena from my mom's. Mom and Dad only have a sibling each, my aunt Sara and my aunt Camila," I explain. "My cousins are like my best friends. Aunt Camila lives in Provo, Utah, and Aunt Sara in Florida."   "Ooh, Florida. That's where Miami is, right?" he says.   "Yeah," I reply. I bite my lip. "I'm not boring you, am I?"   "Not at all. Continue," he beams.   I smile, telling him about the Christmas where all my cousins and I had gone sledding down a big hill by Aunt Camila's house. I was ten, and I almost broke my arm when I went down too fast and crashed into a fence and a tree.   I also told him about the time Karla was forced to read her text messages aloud to her Calculus class a couple months ago. She was talking to me about how hot Louis was and that she'd buy all the carrots in the world for him.   Liam and I were laughing constantly, and you could say that we were becoming really close friends. It made me happy cuz Liam really was how Sugarscape had described him: sensible, caring, and father-like. He even scolded Niall when he asked for his third plate of chicken.   "Tia, could we talk... Please?" Zayn says out of nowhere about two hours later. Liam's eyes dart from Zayn to me and back again, confused by the obvious tension between us two.   I had no choice but to say yes, because I couldn't be rude and tell him off like I desired to do.   Liam and Zayn switch places quickly, making sure Simon didn't see. I'm sure he wouldn't have cared; he was deep in Dreamland anyway. It was almost funny, and I was close to laughing. I hold it in and keep my face straight, not waiting to give Zayn the satisfaction to think I was going to forgive and forget already. He wasn't gonna win! Not in a million years.   "Look, Tia, I want to apologize about what happened yesterday. I had no right to say what I said, and it's not really your fault that Ha--well, he kissed you," Zayn says in a low whisper.   I look at him, surprised.   "And I want to make it up to you somehow. I don't know, um, maybe over a dinner?"   I blink, letting his words sink in. Something he said wasn't right.   "So yeah..." Zayn laughs nervously.   "'It's not my fault'?" is all I can say.   He freezes. "Yeah, um, I know he's irresistible and whatnot, but--"   "I'm sorry, but I didn't realize that I'm some sort of slut to fall for someone just because of looks or so-called 'beauty'," I interrupt angrily. With each sentence, my voice rose in volume. "Believe it or not, Zayn, I have moral expectations, and what happened with Harry--"   "Shh!" Zayn pleads, looking behind us guiltily at Harry and Louis.   "--wasn't 'just because'. Really, Malik, you have to learn to apologize. I thank the... Effort," I scowl.   OK, I admit, I was being a bitch and I might've taken things a little too far, but he made it sound like I was a hoe or something.   "Uh..."   I sigh. I guess I had some fault in this also. "But..." I try to smile, "I'll, uh, let it slide. I was wrong to yell back at you. I'm sorry, and thank you, Zayn."   Well, so much for my grudge. It was hard to resist; his guilty look and his sad hazel eyes broke me completely. Have I gone soft?!   His face brightens up immediately and he even hugs me. "No, thank you, love. So it's a 'yes' for dinner?"   "Why not?" I shrug, giving him a friendly squeeze. "Now, can you forgive me?"   He grins. "What for?"   "For swearing. I usually never swear in front of people, not even when I'm made. I shouldn't have insulted you."   "Why don't see call it even and leave it at that? Deal?"   "Deal."   The 'fasten your seatbelts' sign lights up, and Zayn kisses my cheek hurriedly as he and Liam switch places again. Niall jumps up and down, excited.   This was too good to be true. Honestly.
