2. Chapter Two

Louis’s P.O.V. I felt the guilt run through me before the message even sent. I couldn’t help it; if I heard her voice, I wouldn’t be able to stand it anymore. She would be so disgusted with me if I told her.

“Louis, let’s go!” I looked up to see Harry waving at me from the car. I walked over and tucked my phone into my pocket. I didn’t want to think about it, but it kept coming back; it wouldn’t leave my mind. How could I be so stupid?

“You alright, Lou?” Niall was looking at me questioningly and I nodded, trying to smile. “What’s got you down?”

“Nothing, just a lot on my mind right now,” I answered, trying to keep my voice level. Of course none of them knew; they’d probably kill me if they knew.

“He’s just missing Katie so much that it’s got him down! How adorable!” Zayn put his arm around my shoulder. “Look at him; the picture of sadness.”

“Cut it out, you’re embarrassing him,” Liam teased. “We all know who he’s really thinking about.”

“Hey now, who wouldn’t be thinking about me?” Harry laughed. It was all comical and I managed a laugh, realizing they were trying to cheer me up, but for the wrong reasons. “Anyway, he just called Katie a few minutes ago, right?”

“Actually I sent her text. I didn’t want to interrupt her in case she was on her flight.” That was a complete lie; I knew she was landed by then.

“Wait, where is she now?” Niall asked.

“New York; that’s where her record label’s main building is,” I explained.

“What’s her record label?” Zayn asked this time.

“Shira; there new and just got noticed. Katie did most of that for them,” I chuckled.

“Look at our little Katie growing up so fast,” Liam smiled.

“Wait, our Katie? She’s mine!” I protested. “Katie’s mine, Liam!”

“That’s what you think, Lou. See actually, she’s all of ours now. Once she started dating you, she started dating all of us,” Niall explained.

“Hell no, I don’t think so!” I objected. We all started laughing. “She does miss you guys though; she told me that.”
“Well who wouldn’t miss this?” Harry asked, gesturing to himself. We all rolled our eyes and began giving a list of imaginary people who wouldn’t. I took this time to check my phone again; Katie hadn’t answered. I got nervous; was she mad? I almost called her but stopped myself; if I heard her voice it was all over.

When we got back to our hotel, I immediately lay down on the couch. Katie was in New York and I was in Japan; two complete opposites of the world and I could feel the distance weighing down on me. We had grown so far apart and it was entirely my fault. I had started the stupid fights over the phone, simply over fear of my mistake. I felt myself getting on edge more often now and I knew the boys were feeling it too. I wouldn’t be able to hide this for much longer, but who could I tell about it? I couldn’t trust anyone except Katie and she was the last person I wanted to tell.

I heard a knock on my door. “Louis, it’s Harry. Can I come in?”

“Yeah the door’s open,” I called. Harry walked in, phone in hand and an annoyed expression on his face.

“What’s going on with you and Katie?” I froze. “I just called her and she sounded pretty upset.”

“Wait, why did you call her?” I couldn’t stand it when Harry did that.

“Because I wanted to talk to her,” Harry shrugged. “Besides, you never tell me how she is anymore so I decided to figure out myself.”

“Don’t do that anymore.” I stood up, facing Harry. “Next time, let me know.”

“What are you scared of, Louis? You need to stop being so protective. What is she going to say to me that you don’t want me to know?”

“It’s not what she’d say to you it’s what you’d say to her about me!” I snapped. Harry gave me a puzzled look. I sighed in frustration. “Forget it; you wouldn’t understand.”

“No unless you helped me understand. What did you do, Louis?”

“I…I don’t want to talk about it, alright? I’m going out,” I said, trying to walk past Harry.

He stopped me, pushing me back in front of him. “The hell you are! What did you do, Louis?” I felt sick, guilty; Harry would kick my ass if I told him.

“Harry…I really messed up,” I finally said, sitting back down on the couch. I put my head in my hands and leaned onto my knees. “I really messed up this time.”

I felt him sit next to me. “You know what Katie just asked me to do? She asked me to tell you that she loves you because you never answer your phone for her. Then she told me to forget it and hung up. Why would she do that?”

“Because I can’t listen to her talk!” I looked up at Harry. “If I heard her voice…” I trailed off.

“What happened, Louis?” Harry wasn’t giving up on it and I had no choice; I couldn’t keep it from him anymore. I knew he’d be mad because I knew how much he cared about Katie. I had to trust him though; trust him not to say anything until I did.

“Harry…I broke my promise to her,” I choked out. “I…I cheated on her.”

Katie’s P.O.V. We approached the club, the bouncer immediately recognizing me and letting us in, much to the line’s dismay. We walked in and flashed our I.D.’s, getting served immediately. I smiled wickedly over at Kara, sharing the thrilling situation we were currently in. We were clearly popular right now, seeing as how our shots came so quickly. I held my glass up.

“What shall we toast to, my dear?” I asked. Kara laughed a little.

“Being single and proud!” She yelled.

“I’m not single!” I stopped myself and shrugged. “But I might as well be, right?” We clinked glasses and I knocked mine back. The burn on my throat felt nice as it trailed down to my stomach, giving me a warm sensation in my gut. “I’m back, baby!” I was ready to let go.

I lost Kara in the crowd after about an hour of dancing. I stumbled to the bar for what seemed like my fifth shot. I knocked it back and was making my way back to find Kara when I lost my footing, falling to the side. I screamed a little before I was suddenly caught and taken to a bar stool.

“Hey are you alright?” The voice was deep, but not inaudibly so. I looked up and met the gaze of two dark blue eyes. I froze, mesmerized by them. “Are you alright?”

“Your eyes are really pretty,” I blurted out, making him laugh. His laugh was so beautiful; maybe that was just the alcohol talking though. “I’m Katie, what’s your name?”

“Well Katie, my name is Jace. Are you going to remember that in five minutes?” Jace asked with a laugh. I nodded eagerly, pulling myself off of the stool and into his strong arms. I held onto him as I dragged him to the center of the floor.

“Listen, I’ve had a really bad day, so why don’t you help me forget about it, Jace,” I smiled. There was a bassy Latino song on, almost like a tango. I loved this music. “Dance with me, Jace.”

“Are you sure that’s such a good idea? What about your boyfriend?” Jace asked. I shook my head.

“He’s in Japan on tour and he’s mad at me. Please help me forget about it,” I pleaded.

“I don’t know, Katie,” Jace hesitated. He was clearly not as intoxicated, if that at all.

“Are you going to be mad at me too?” I growled. I pulled him close to me, his black hair now grazing my forehead. “Don’t you go taking advantage of a poor, drunk girl now,” I taunted.

Jace put his hand around my waist, pulling me closer. He leaned down and whispered into my ear. “I’ll be gentle.” His words sent shivers down my spine as we started dancing. This is what I needed and it felt so good.
