Karla is just a normal girl, living a normal life, with a normal family, with normal friends. At least that's the person you see when you walk in the hallways of Kingston high school. But she's not the person she looks like when you walk past her in the corridor. Her inside is filled with pain and guilt. Everything she can remember from when she was younger was the constant pain, and watching her mother beeing abused by her father. When she was 5 years old, he left. And even though her mom hated him, her brain told her that she still loved him. Ever since then her mother have been down, and it's all Karlas fault. If she just hadn't been born non of this would've happened. Her life is a gloom until one day when she bumps into a sweet canadian boy that'll change her life forever.

19. Thunder

I silently rubbed my mothers hair, held her in my arms. Her arms wrapped around my waist while we both stared at the TV. Friends was on, but neither me or her felt like laughing, I mean, how could we? There was a ringing on the doorbell, I looked back at the door. "I'll get it." I carefully lifted her head away from me, she had fallen asleep, good. I slowly walked over to the door, I was exhausted. Without really paying attention I opened it. I looked down at the man's shoes, they were muddy. My eyes followed the jeans the man was wearing. They were too familiar. My eyes shot  up to the face of the man, I couldn't really make out the details, but suddenly the lightning struck and his face lid up. "Why are you here?" I whispered. Jonah's mouth grew a grin. "Why wouldn't I be here? It's my home." I shook my head. "This house stopped being your home a long time ago." I quickly closed the door but something blocked it. I looked down at Jonah's foot. "Karla open the door!" He shouted. "Go away!" With all of my power I squeezed his foot. A scream of pain came from the other side of the door. "What's going on here?" I heard a voice say on my left. My head turned to my mum and for a moment I lost focus. The door flew open and I almost got hit by it. She looked at Jonah and her eyes grew wide. Then she smiled. "Mum, no." I looked back at Jonah, he was smiling as well  "MUM NO!" She ran over to Jonah and hugged him tightly. He hugged her as well  while he looked at me with a creepy smile. "I knew you would come back someday." She cried into his arms. "Mum get out of his arms right now." She glared at me. "Karla he just came back can you show a little respect?" "Mum how can you forget what he has done! Don't you remember anything?" "Karla! We are taking him in right now!" She looked up at Jonah and smiled. "Please come inside Jonah." He nodded. "I have missed you both so much." Mum grabbed his hand and led him inside. I walked behind them up the stairs, keeping my eyes on his back. She opened the door to her bedroom. "You can make yourself comfortable, I'll be here in a few minutes, I'm just going to have a little talk with Karla." She smiled at him as she closed the door. She then grabbed my hand and led me to my room, locked the door behind her and turned around. We both smiled. "How did I do?" She said. I hugged her. "You did excellent, I think he really believes you." She drew apart from me. "What's the next step?" A tap on my window interrupted me. I looked at Justin's face while he waited for me to open it. I opened it and let him in. "You guys did great." He said and smiled. "You're sure he didn't see you?" He nodded. "Positive." I hugged him as well. "So, the next step is to call Landon right?" Mum nodded. "Thank god we know a police officer." Mum picked up her phone from her pocket. "Hmm, that's weird, I don't have any service, try your phones." Both me and Justin picked up our phones, no service. "Not on mine either." Justin said behind me. A weird noise behind me made us all stare at the door. I heard something metal fall to the ground. A screw. He was screwing the door down. "Quick the window!" I called. Mum went out of the window as quickly as she could, down the ladder. Another screw. "Justin go!" Yet another screw. There was only one screw left. "Karla go!" Justin ran to the door to hold it back. "I'm not leaving you!" I called, now there were tears streaming down my cheeks. "GO!" I looked back at the window and shook my head. I ran to the door and pushed the door with him. "I'm not leaving you!" I called. The lightning struck outside and the rain poured through my window, causing my sheets becoming wet. The last screw fell to the floor. Justin kissed my lips as I felt his tear drop on my cheek. "I love you." He whispered in my ear. A hard push from the other side of the door interrupted us. Then suddenly all the power from the other side disappeared and the door fell, me and Justin on it, Jonah beneath it. I guess he was stupid enough to back and take power. We rolled of the door as Jonah tried to lift it of him. We stumbled up on our feet and set course to the staircase. Justin grabbed my hand as he ran in front of me down the steps. I heard rapid steps behind me. When I looked back I saw Jonah running down the stairs, he was quicker than us. We reached the kitchen before Jonah could reach us. In panic I grabbed the biggest knife I could spot. I felt something pulling my hair back. I screamed of pain. "You can't run away from me." Jonah whispered in my ear. He licked my cheek. I had never experienced anything that disgusting. "Let go of her!" Justin shouted. With all of my power I grabbed the knife and stabbed him in his leg. He let out an inhuman scream and the grip he had in my hair dropped. I crawled away from him and were soon on my feet, running as fast as I could. We threw up the door and ran down on the grass. "MUM!" I yelled. "Karla!" I heard on my right. I hugged her tightly and then grabbed her cheeks. "Okay mum, we have to run now, we have to run as fast as we can do you understand?" She nodded. I heard something fall down from the kitchen, maybe a bowl, a pan. Whatever it was Jonah was on his move again. "Come on!" Then we ran. We ran down the road. Screaming after help. But it was late, and no one could hear us over the lightning. "Into the woods!" I called. The woods felt like the only safe place to hide at this moment. Lots of good hiding places, and it was darker in there than out on the street. The rain was still pouring down, soaking us. Once we reached the woods mum called. "Wait! We have to stop, I need to breath for a minute." I looked back at the road, there were no trace of Jonah in sight. "Okay but only for a little while." She fell  to the ground. Her hand reached her chest. "Ow." She said. "Mum?" She laid down on the brown leaves. "Mum!" I ran over to her, and almost fell in the hurry. I grabbed her hand in mine. "Mum?" She stared at me. "Run Karla!" I looked back at the road and saw Jonah looking for us. I shook my head. "I'm not leaving you!" The rain on my cheeks mixed with my warm tears. "This is the end Karla, I can't continue." "Mum no! I won't leave you!" "It's my time to go Karla! You have to understand that!" She looked over at Justin. He had tears on his cheeks as well. "Take good care of her." He sat down beside me and nodded. "I will."  "And if you ever hurt her I will haunt you for the rest of my life." He laughed and I smiled. So did mum. "Now go." I looked back at the road. Jonah had spotted us now and he limped in our direction. I kissed my mothers forehead. "I love you." I said before me and Justin ran further into the forest.
