Little Talks

"I don't like walking around this old and empty house."
~
"Are you sure about this Zayn?" I asked with my hands grasping over the railing, wind blowing through my hair. "Don't worry." He tells me. "I'm nervous as much as you. But these little talks don't last long."
My summer was basically ruined thanks to my mother. After high school graduation, she forced me to work on the cruiseline she owns instead of giving me a choice if I want to like my older sister. But the first day of the cruise, the first day I saw them being complete dumbos. That day I didn't know that I would love one of them. Zayn was right, these little talks don't last long.

2. My first day

"Britta!" My annoying mother calls from outside my cabin. "Wake up slow poke!"

I toss the pillow over my head and continue to sleep. "Five more minutes!" I moan.

"No daughter of mine will be late for her post! Now get up and put on your uniform! We're leaving port in three hours." I hear footsteps leaving the area and my eyes slowly open. My mom is the complete opposite of other moms. Normal moms look after their kids until they're 18. Then they can be free. But since my mom works on a cruise ship 24/7, she hired a carefree nanny for most of my life until I turned 14. I had a perfect life until I graduated high school, turned 18, and instead of giving me the choice to work on the Santa Maria Cruise like my older sister, Katie, she practically FORCED me to spend my summer on the cruise as a check-in girl, laundry girl, and cabin cleaner.

I get out of bed to take a quick shower. I get out and I just let my long, wavy, brown hair with red ombre dip dyes air dry into nice curls. I pull out my uniform, a white collared top with a stupid light blue skirt, and throw it on and then put on my socks and gray converse. Then I do my regular make-up and run down to the lobby for my first job. Check in girl.

Katie had this job last summer, so she gave me the whole run down. "So when passengers come up here, ask for their last names they registered under and type into here. If they already paid, hit the 'Checked in and Paid' button. If they haven't, a price will appear right here. Tell them the amount and they'll pay it. Then hit 'Checked In'. Then their cabin numbers will appear on the top right hand corner. Hand them their keys and page Martin to grab their luggage. It's hard at first, Brit, but you'll get the hang of it." No, Katie, I won't.

At first, business was slow, but things picked up after an hour. Katie was right about getting the hang of it after a while. When there was no one waiting in line to check in, I pulled out my phone and earpieces and opened up Pandora. I clicked on a random station and listened.

"My mind is a warrior,
My heart is a foreigner,
My eyes are the colour of red like a sunset,
I'll never keep it bottled up,
Left to the hands of the coroner,
Be a true heart not a follower,
We're not done yet now,
I see it in your movements tonight,
If we should ever do this right,
I'm never gonna let you down,
Oh I'll never let you down,
Now keep it on the down low
And I'll keep you around so I'll know,
That I'll never let you down,
I'll never let you down.
You're strumming on my heart strings like you were a grade 8

but I never felt this way,
I'll pick your feet up off of the ground

and never ever let you down,
You're strumming on my heart strings like you were a grade 8

but I never felt this way,
I'll pick your feet up off of the ground

and never ever let you down,
My eyes are a river filler,
This drink is a liver killer,
My chest is a pillow for your weary head to lay to rest again,
Your body is my ballpoint pen
And your mind is my new best friend,
Your eyes are my mirror to take me to the edge again,
Now I see it in your movements tonight,
If we should ever do this right,
I'm never gonna let you down,
Oh I'll never let you down,
We'll keep it on the down low
And I'll keep you around so I'll know,
That I'll never let you down,
I'll never let you down,
You're strumming on my heart strings like you were a grade 8

but I never felt this way,
I'll pick your feet up off of the ground

and never ever let you down,
You're strumming on my heart strings like you were a grade 8

but I never felt this way,
I'll pick your feet up off of the ground

and never ever let you down,
Hold my heart to stop me bleeding now, now, now,

and I'll never let you down

Hold my heart to stop me bleeding now, now, now,

and I'll never let you down

Hold my heart to stop me bleeding now, now, now,

and I'll never let you down

Hold my heart to stop me bleeding now, now, now,

and I'll never let you down
'Cause You're strumming on my heart strings like you were a grade 8

but I never felt this way,
I'll pick your feet up off of the ground

and never ever let you down,
You're strumming on my heart strings like you were a grade 8

but I never felt this way,
I'll pick your feet up off of the ground

and never ever let you down."

DING! DING!

I was interrupted by that annoying bell to signify that a person is patiently waiting for me. I take out my headphones and turn to help my client.

"Hello, and welcome aboard the Santa Monica Cruise line. My name is Britta, but I don't want to be here. How can I help you?" I formerly introduce myself with no enthusiasm at all.

In front of me, there was a buff man in a simple navy blue t-shirt, khaki shorts, and sandals. "Yes, I'm here in reservation under 'Cowell'. And if you need my ID, let me first remind you that he's my boss and he's running a bit behind." There was a tint of a British accent in his voice. He was obviously not from around here.

I pull up the computer and type in "Cowell". Then I realized, "How do you spell 'Cowell'?"

The man chuckled, and replied to my answer. "C-O-W-E-L-L." I typed it in and hit enter. This Cowell man had reserved 2 cabins for seven people. He wanted a cabin of two and a cabin of five. I look and see that he already paid the $20,000 fee, so I hit "Checked in and Paid".

"Okay, so you're cabins 3A and 3D." I say handing him the seven room keys. "So there's one for each member of the party. Please don't lose them. Oh, and here's a better introduction. I'm Britta Carter. Nice to meet you." I extend my hand for him to take.

He genuinely takes a firm grip of it. "Paul Higgins." He introduces. "So Britta," He starts looking out into the lobby. "You think you can clear the area in 15 seconds?"

That's strange. "Why 15 se..."

"WATCH OUT!" I hear an Irish accent yell.

I get out from behind the counter and stand next to Paul. "That's why." He answered my question.

A/N: Okay, so here's the first chapter. It was longer when I wrote it out on paper (I used four pieces of loose leaf papers. Double sided! It took seven and a half pages to write!), but I decided to make it short.

Oh, and the song that Britta was listening to was "Grade 8" by Ed Sheeran. I know a lot may know it, but if you don't know the song, it's a really good song!

So you wanna hear a weird story? So I was on my iPod on Simsimi (it's a virtual robot thing you can chat with). I was constantly saying no and then on accident, I typed in bo and it's reply was "Harry Styles". I asked my friends why that happened and two of them started going beserks saying simsimi was smart and such (I was on a groupchat on kik). Then they started talking about this fanfic called "Dark" which I never read and this is what they told me about it (cuz I asked for a short summary). "It's about this girl and harry and the rest is just AHHHHHHHHH" Just wanted to tell you that because it sounded interesting.
