2. University and work

I came to my Legal Research and Writing class right on time, as always. I opened my laptop and waited patiently for my professor to come while revising my notes one again, just to be on the safer side.

What is my Legal Research and Writing class all about, you ask me? Well, basically, students work under the close supervision of legal research and a writing instructor, while learning techniques of writing a legal memoranda, drafting documents, preparing an appellate brief, and arguing orally before a moot court.

That might not sound interesting to a lot of people, but it’s what I love it do. It’s what I want to do for the rest of my life; I can’t imagine myself doing anything else.

Just then, the professor came in, and immediately started with the lecture. I listened closely to everything he said, paying attention and gave my full concentration. The last twenty minutes or so of class, he gave summaries and distributes notes and study material.

As I grabbed my things and headed out, my professor called me.

'Ms. Peterson,' he said.

'Yes, sir?'

'I’m assuming you’ve applied for internships at my law firm. You know that I’m offering four positions to the top four students in my class. And I’m pretty sure that you are one of them,' he spoke confidently.

'Yes, I’ve applied. And I hope I get in, it would be such an amazing opportunity,' I replied, internally thankful to myself for applying to the internship at his law firm.

'I’m pretty sure you’ll do well. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have another class.' He exited the class.

I followed him out of the class, and went back straight to my apartment. I didn’t have anything to do till four that day. I had just finished class, and it was two in the afternoon when I reached my apartment. I decided that I’d cook something for lunch, instead of my usual takeout. Elizabeth would’ve eaten by now since she was in the main building, and had easy access to the cafeteria.

After contemplating on what to cook, I finally decided to on Mediterranean style haloumi cheese and vegetable salad and black bean and beef stir-fry. I cut up all the vegetables, and put them on the grill. After that I started with the rice for my stir-fry. I grabbed some haloumi cheese from the refrigerator and tossed it with the vegetables.

When I was done, I put my food on my plate and sat in front of the television. I casually flipped channels, trying to decide on what to watch. I finally settled for Scandal.

I watched it for an hour, and when it ended, I took my plates to the kitchen, washed it and put it back in its’ place.

I had to head off to work in a while, so I just left for Peppers since I didn’t want to be late. When I reached the café, I went to the back room, which was attached to the main kitchen. I put my bags in my locker, and pulled on my apron. It was black, and it had 'Peppers' written on the front, in red.

As soon as I stepped outside, I was bombarded with different orders. I listened to them, and I grabbed two plates of pasta from the counter and served them to table three. I put an order of lasagna, cold coffee and iced tea on a tray and served it to table nine.

And it was then I heard a loud roar of laughter coming from the entrance. I blinked several times and I tried to figure what was happening. There was no way in the world that the biggest, globe conquering boy band of my generation would be here.

The five gorgeous boys and the three girls who came behind them, sat in table seven, and I tried to closely observe them without looking too creepy.

'Emma, take orders from table seven,' I heard a fellow waitress tell me.
