Behind the Truth

Meet Harry Styles...

Harry Styles was one of the world's biggest heartthrobs of a certain British/Irish band called, 'One Direction'. All he ever wanted was someone to treat him well. Not as the famous celebrity, but as Harry.

He finds that when he meets Carter Hanson. A girl who has 2 jobs and is pretty much a nerd. She knows who he is, but doesn't treat him as if he were any different from herself. He's falling fast for a girl he's only just met. What he doesn't know, won't hurt him.

Meet Carter Hanson...

Carter's your typical quiet, shy 14 year old. From the outside, she seems completely happy, joyous, and carefree.

But her secrets beg to differ.

15. Wanting to Ask.

Carter's POV:

When I woke up the next morning, I was in a dress. My mind started to wander on what had happened last night. I felt groggy and sore. I looked around the room I was in. It wasn't familiar. Was I kidnapped? No, I couldn't be. I was at the BRIT Awards last night. The last thing I remembered was going home in a limo from the BRITS. But where was I?

"Good morning sleepyhead." Eleanor came in the room, holding a tray filled with food. She sat by the edge of the bed, handing me the tray.

"Good morning..." I said slowly. "W-Where am I?"

"Oh, we all slept over last night. We're at the boys' flat." She told me. "Sorry, we would've brought you home, but Liam suggested that you should slept over since you were already sleeping. Harry carried you up to the guest room."

"Oh." I replied bluntly. "Thanks."

"Everyone's downstairs if you want to go meet them." She pointed with her thumb.

"It'd be weird to go with my dress from last night." I sighed.

"You can borrow some of my clothes. I'm sure they fit you." I froze for a second, making her realize what she just said. "Yeah, Louis told me. For a second after he told me, I didn't believe it. You're so tall and beautiful. But with the look on your face, now I do." She winked, opening the door. "Come on, I'll let you chose what you want."

I took the tray from my lap, placing it on the bed. I leaped out of bed, following Eleanor to her and Louis' room. She opened her drawer and helped me pick out an outfit.

I went downstairs, seeing that all eyes were shifting towards me. Somehow, I felt uncomfortable with their stares, but I didn't let it bother me. I slowly walked towards the dining table, sitting on a seat next to Harry.

"Morning, love." He greeted with his cheeky smile.

"Good morning." I greeted back, shifting my seat closer to the table. Louis had already set my breakfast down in front of me, giving me a little wink when he turned around. I just sniffled a laugh at his sudden wink and winked back.

"So, what's going on today?" Liam asked, making conversation through the clicking of utensils.

I shrugged, then suddenly realized that I had work today. It was a Sunday, right? "Oh shoot! I forgot I had work today!" I started to frantically eat my breakfast, taking a big gulp at it and chewing it all down in a second.

"Whoa, calm down. You're going to get a stomach ache." Zayn cautioned.

"She's faster than me..." Niall murmured.

"I'm so sorry." I said through my full mouth, then swallowing it. "I-I have to go."

"Carter, Carter... Calm down.." Harry stood up, holding my shoulders. "For a young girl, you go through so much stress."

"Well it's not my choice." I tried calming down, "It's my parents'. If they find out I'm not at work they'll-"

"I called Connor today and told him you were going to be a little late. He says it's fine." Harry cut me off, explaining.

I exhaled in relief, "Oh good. Thank you, Harry."

He nodded, "Now, go change."

I smiled, kissing his cheek. "Thanks. You're a good friend."

Harry's POV:

She smiled of relief and kissed my cheek. "Thanks. You're a good friend." She moved out of my grip, and I could hear her steps, slow and rhythmic, on the floorboards leading towards the guest room. It was silent for a moment as I watched her rush up the stairs.

"Dude, she's sweet, hard-working, understanding, and a big eater..." Niall paused, his head nodding in something he was thinking of. "If you don't ask her out, I will."

I looked at the empty hallway in which Carter had just left in, turning back to Niall. I chuckled at his statement, joining the others back at the table.

After I took Carter to work, I came back home meeting the boys and Eleanor for some time to have a lazy day. We had a day off from everything today since we still needed some time to get some lyrics together for our next album. Of course, I was still stuck. I sat on the couch next to Louis and Eleanor, and we all started to watch some TV.

Louis nudged me, "So about what Niall said earlier, were you really going to ask her out?"

I shrugged, "I've been thinking of it."

"You should. She's a lovely girl." He told me.

"Oh my gosh, did I hear you were going to ask Carter out?" Eleanor randomly chimed in.

"He was thinking about it." Louis repeated on what I had said to him. Then, he turned to me. "You should, mate. Give it a go."

"I'll think about it."

Carter's POV:

I threw the old rag into the air, catching it as it went airborne. I had finished up my shift for the day and I was pretty exhausted as usual. I cleaned up my last table for the day and gave Connor a high five for a job well done. I went over to the Employee Lounge and grabbed my bag, getting myself ready to go home.

"Bye Connor! See you next week!" I waved to him from behind when I swung open the door.

Just as I was about to take one step towards home, I heard a car honk numerous times. I turned forward down to the street, squinting my eyes through the dark blue sky. "L-Liam?"

He waved in the car, his sunglasses on. "Come on in."

I walked towards the car, getting in his van. "I hope you're not kidnapping me, Li."

"Never. I'm taking you to the penthouse." He told me.

"Harry's orders." He winked, starting the car.

"Nuff said." I joked.

Just as the car passed the cafe, Liam started to turn on the radio. Of course, a One Direction song came on.

"YOU DON'T KNOW YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL." Liam started to sing.

I chuckled, raising my dark eyebrow, "Really Li? Really?"

He turned down the volume, his eyes glued to the street. "What? Don't like One Direction? You said yourself you were a 'huge directioner'."

"I am. I was just joking." I turned the knob, increasing the volume on the radio. He sang again, and I sang along after a few seconds of hearing his voice that I always knew of as deep and angelic.

After the song ended, he turned off the radio. We were getting closer to the house, and I can already see the sky turning darker. "You're a really good singer, Carter. How come you never sang in front of us?"

"I've always been a little insecure of my singing. I sometimes sing when I'm alone. But with you, I feel like I'm already close to you, so I can show my inner self. I sing when music I like comes on."  It was basically something people didn't know about me. I didn't even know I was good.

"Why? You're amazing, Carter. I don't mean to sound so conceited but, it's coming from a big star." He said.

"Aw, thanks Liam. I appreciate it." I cooed. The car turned to the driveway and Liam had parked in reverse for the parking space. He turned the engine off, and got off the car. I unlocked and opened the car door and got off, following Liam all the way up to the penthouse.

He unlocked the door, swinging it open. "We're home!" He announced. I heard heavy footsteps coming towards us, and to be honest, it was running fast. At first, I didn't even know if it was either Louis or Niall coming towards us, but I knew in my heart that it was Louis, then Niall, THEN Zayn.

Liam set the keys down on the hook behind the door and led me to the living room where we all just sat down and chatted. We started to talk about our day, then leading up to random topics that were quite hysterical. Then, I knew something was missing-not something- someone.

I knew one was missing. Harry. "Hey, where's Harry?"

"Oh, he's probably upstairs. Haven't seen him in a while." Zayn implied.

"Be right back." I excused myself of out the couch, making my way towards a random room. I didn't exactly know where Harry's room was, but I sort of made the right choice to pick the room next to the guest room.

"Hey Harry." I greeted quietly when I let myself in.

He turned towards the doorway, looking at me. "Oh hey Carter." He paused. "...Sorry I told Liam to pick you up, I was a little busy."

I sat by the edge of his bed, "What were you doing?"

"Uh- r-reading." He scratched the back of his head.

Harry's POV:

There was an awkward silence between us, during which Carter shifted from foot to foot, looking down at her fingers. I was thinking. I was thinking about what Louis had said to me that day after I brought Carter to work. I thought out it really hard. I even tried to act it out for it to be perfect.

Now or Never, Harry.

"So uh-" I cleared my throat. "I-I uh..." I stammered, confused to find the right words escaping my mouth.

She looked up, staring intensively at me to finish. "Yess?" She trailed her response.

"I-uh, was wondering if you would like to-you know- go out.. on Saturday?" I mentally let out a breath, a sigh of relief that I finally had said it..

"A-As in a date?" She says quietly.

I nodded, "Yeah.. I-If you w-want-" I sighed, "Yeah... A date."

She took a minute to think, a rather long minute that seemed like hours.I was getting a little impatient, but I managed to wait. The next words that came out of her mouth were nothing I had expected it to be.

"I'm sorry...I-I can't."
