Behind the Truth

Meet Harry Styles...

Harry Styles was one of the world's biggest heartthrobs of a certain British/Irish band called, 'One Direction'. All he ever wanted was someone to treat him well. Not as the famous celebrity, but as Harry.

He finds that when he meets Carter Hanson. A girl who has 2 jobs and is pretty much a nerd. She knows who he is, but doesn't treat him as if he were any different from herself. He's falling fast for a girl he's only just met. What he doesn't know, won't hurt him.

Meet Carter Hanson...

Carter's your typical quiet, shy 14 year old. From the outside, she seems completely happy, joyous, and carefree.

But her secrets beg to differ.

6. Telling the Truth.

Harry's POV:

I drove all the way back home, smiling furiously as I did. She kissed my cheek. Even on my cheek I felt something that I never felt. Something good. Something... magical.

I turned towards the driveway, parking towards my stop. I walked slowly all the way back to my flat. I jiggled my keys into the hole and opened the door. Louise and Jasmine had left, and the boys were already cleaning up the mess.

"Hey Haz, what happened?" Louis asked me. I didn't bother to answer, because I was in my own little world. When he snapped his fingers in front of my face, I flinched a little. "Haz?"

"Oh, yeah. Hi." I scratched the back of my head awkwardly. "What did you say?"

"I asked what happened. I mean, you seem out of it. Did something happen?" He asked seriously, but then turned it into a smirk on his face.

"N-Nothing happened, mate. What makes you think that?" I chuckled uneasily.

"I know that look, mate!" Niall pointed to me. "I see that grin! The blush! She kissed you!" He guessed.

The other boys started to gasp, making me get put in the spot. "Just on the cheek." I mumbled.

"That's great! It's another step and clue. She fancies you." Louis winked, resting his hand on my shoulder.

"No.. no.." I started to deny. "Maybe."

"Are you going to meet her again?" Zayn quizzed.

I shrugged, "I'm not sure. I hope so."

Carter's POV:

"So how was your day with 'One Direction'?" I asked the girls. After I had come home, the Louise and Jasmine were already hanging out at Louise's flat. So we decided to move the sleepover at my house. We were all dressed in our pajamas and we started to eat some pint sized ice cream as we talked about our day.

"It was awesome! After you left, we played just a small game of 'Hide and Seek'. We're never too young to play that." Louise says, eating a bucketful of ice cream.

I stole a spoonful of ice cream from her. "That's nice."

"So what about you? What did you and Hazza do on your way back to Spinners?" Jasmine questioned, looking at me with a smirk in her eyes.

I smiled and shook my head. "Nothing." Louise and Jasmine didn't look like they believed me and I nodded reassuringly that nothing happened.

Jasmine raised her eyebrows, "Nothing? Come on, I know you. Something DID happen." She ate her ice cream.

I licked my spoon, "I just said 'thanks' for the ride and I left." I paused, "and.. I might have... kissedhimonthecheek.." I murmured at the last part.

They froze, their eyes widening. "YOU DID?" Louise and Jasmine almost yelled.

I nodded slightly, and they gasped. "Oh my gosh! That's so adorable! You know that he fancies you, right?"

"It was just a way to say 'thank you'. People do it all the time. And, no. Jasmine, he doesn't." I reasoned.

"Yes, he does. I could see the way he looks at you." Exactly what Connor told me.

"Why does everyone say that? Harry doesn't fancy me at all. We're just friends." I defended.

"I don't know, Carter. Harry sure seems to like you a lot. Liam even told me." Louise mused.

I raised my eyebrows, "Really?"

She nodded reassuringly. "Yep."

"Well I for one don't believe it. I mean, we're friends. That's all."

It was silent for a while as me and the girls looked at our phones for any mentions on Facebook or Twitter. Nothing but funny pictures posted. I locked my phone and continued to eat my ice cream.

Then, Jasmine froze, looking like she realized something. "Hey Carter..."

I looked at her. "Yeah?"

"Have you told Harry that you were 14?" She asked me.

I stopped, "Not really... It wasn't really mentioned."

Her eyes widened, "What!? You have to tell him!"

"You think I should? I mean, what if he hates me for not telling him?"

Louise suddenly chimed in, "He's not going to hate you. The worse that could happen is him leaving you and moving on from you because you told him you're 14."

I looked at Louise, tilting my head. "Wow, Louise. Thanks for that getting sucked into my brain." I said sarcastically. She just shrugged and continued to eat her pint sized ice cream.

"You have to tell Harry. He deserves the honesty. I mean, if he doesn't treat you the same as he does now, maybe you guys weren't really meant to be friends." She told me.

I sighed. I was just afraid he would never talk to me again. "You really think so?" Louise and Jasmine both nodded in response. I slouched down, continuing my ice cream glumly.

I knew that I was falling for a guy that I had only just met for a week. And I couldn't even be with him.

Harry's POV:

A few weeks have passed since our day with Carter and her friends. I couldn't stop thinking about that day ever since. Especially when she kissed my cheek. But now all I'm thinking about was Carter. We only text each other to catch up on our lives, but every time I call her, she doesn't answer for some reason. When I try to find her on the weekdays at Spinners, she's not there at all. Was she avoiding me? Was something wrong? Did I do something wrong? Was she alright? Those were the questions that were flooding through my mind every day I didn't see her.

"Maybe she's just really busy." Was what Louis said when I asked him what was going on. I kept repeating his words through my mind and tried to believe it, but it wasn't working.

So, I decided to visit her at the cafe on Saturday. I walked over to the cafe, swinging the door open before it closed. Carter was there, collecting garbage off the tables with a tray. Her hair was tied up and she was wearing dark skinny jeans with a tank under the buttoned sweater. When she noticed my presence, she froze at her spot. I stood a few feet away from her and waved to her. "Hey."

"Hey." She greeted quietly. She walked over behind the counter as I followed her. "W-What are you doing here?" I heard a quiet, shy tone in her voice, not her usual happy and carefree tone. It made me a bit worried.

"I just came to see if you were alright. We haven't talked in a while." I shrugged. "How are you?"

"I'm fine. Thanks for coming to see me though." She started to stack empty plastic cups into a brown box. I helped her and she smiled. It wasn't her usual smile though. It was a fake one. It was silent for a few seconds. The sound of cup stacking was only made in the entire room until I suddenly blurted something out.

"Is there something wrong?" I suddenly asked her.

She looked hesitant for a while before she turned to me. "I've been keeping a secret from you."

Carter's POV:

It's now or never, Carter. Just do it. It'll be over in a matter of minutes if you tell him now. The entire week you've been avoiding him proved that you didn't need him in your life. You have your own personal life, and he has his. Just tell him. No matter how cute and kind and sweet he is, you have to let him go. You knew you couldn't be with him, and you knew that he would be mad at you for not telling him. He would feel betrayed, angry, confused. Probably. Besides, what am I thinking? He likes older women. Not younger ones.

Just get this over with and cry on your pillow tonight after the whole thing is over.

"I've been keeping a secret from you...and I don't know who you'll take it." I let out a deep breath before he did and nodded for me to continue. "Harry... when we met in this cafe, and hung out... I forgot to mention something about me that may shock you a bit." I started.

"Like what?" He spoke out quietly.

I closed my eyes, telling myself that I was ready. Just tell him, Carter. Now. "Harry..."

"I'm 14 years old."
