Behind the Truth

Meet Harry Styles...

Harry Styles was one of the world's biggest heartthrobs of a certain British/Irish band called, 'One Direction'. All he ever wanted was someone to treat him well. Not as the famous celebrity, but as Harry.

He finds that when he meets Carter Hanson. A girl who has 2 jobs and is pretty much a nerd. She knows who he is, but doesn't treat him as if he were any different from herself. He's falling fast for a girl he's only just met. What he doesn't know, won't hurt him.

Meet Carter Hanson...

Carter's your typical quiet, shy 14 year old. From the outside, she seems completely happy, joyous, and carefree.

But her secrets beg to differ.

8. Nothing's Changed.

Carter's POV:

I made my way through the crowd of people waiting in front of the cafe on that Saturday morning. Why were there so many people here? I tried squeezing my way through the crowd of people laughing, giggling, squealing, and talking as I tried to make it to the door. What was going on?

"Excuse me." I said politely, holding my bag safely by my side as I pushed my way through.

"Hey! No cutting!" A girl called out, followed by other people complaining to me. I began being pushed away when Connor came out.

"Carter!" He called, grabbing everyone's attention. "That's okay! She works here!" He announced to the girls.

I made my way through, hearing grunts, groans, and complaints as I made my way inside. I exhaled sharply, dropping my bag on the counter. The cafe was empty. Why didn't Connor let them in? They were hungry customers, right?

"Connor? What the heck is going on?" I asked him impatiently. "There's hungry customers out there and-" I stopped when I turned back to Connor.

He turned around too, and 4 figures came out from the kitchen. The 4 figures I wasn't expecting to see.

Liam, Louis, Zayn, and Niall were standing right in front of me. In the cafe. Right here, Right now.

Am I dreaming?

"W-What are you guys doing here?" I crossed my arms, slightly flabbergasted.

"We needed to talk to you." Liam started. I crossed my arms, waiting for them to continue. "We came here to talk to you about Harry. He's been feeling a little...weird lately."

"We heard about your small secret with Harry. I-I mean, we have no problem with it. I don't know if Harry is-"

I cut him off, "Look guys, I'm totally fine without Harry. I don't care about what Harry thinks of me anymore. I knew that telling him would somehow break our friendship, but I'm fine." I sighed.

"We just want you to know that Harry's been stuck lately, alright? He needs you." Niall spoke.

I stayed silent, looking away. "Why doesn't he just say it himself then?"

"He's in denial." Zayn replied. "He hasn't really been himself. He's becoming more and more independent."

"So? What does that have to do with me? I'm nothing but a 14 year old girl." I scoffed.

"You're not just a 14 year old girl, Carter. You're our friend. It has to do with you, because we've never seen him happier when he's with you. You turned him into a better Harry. Without you, he's just a lost puppy." Liam told me. I looked back at them. Their faces were pleading, and I knew they needed help.

"I-I don't know.." I bit my lip. "It's just... I don't even know if I'm ready to face him."

"You're ready and we know he's ready too. He's probably just afraid." Zayn said, shrugging.

We were silent for a moment, until high pitched screaming erupted from outside. No wonder why there were so many people outside. "Um, so you came here with no disguises?"

"We did, at first. But then a strong wind blew our hats away, and somehow our fans managed to recognize us. We ran all the way here." Louis explained. "It was fun, though."

I chuckled, "Must be. What do you think that you're doing now?"

"Having some tea." Niall answered.

"Do you want some?" I questioned.

"No thanks. We should be on our way. Paul and the rest are coming to get us." Zayn told me. I nodded understandingly as we all waited patiently for the bodyguards to arrive.

Once they did, the boys stopped in their tracks before leaving out the back. "So, Carter.. Call us when you made your mind up?" Liam asked me.

I leaned on the door and nodded once again. "Will do, Liam. I just need some time."

He smiled with the rest of the boys waving to me once they got into the car. I waved back, shutting the door.

I didn't even know whether or not I should face him. I mean, would he still be mad? I couldn't stop thinking about the conversation with the boys all day as I was working. It was on my mind all day...and I didn't know what to do.

Harry's POV:

I was lying down on my bed, thinking about the random thought I had earlier about my inspiration. I stared at the ceiling in with the lights off. It was getting darker and darker as the day passed. I didn't really know where the boys were, nor did I care. They were probably out in their own world, living the life with the fans and themselves whereas I am here, trying to come up with something I can write for the song.

Something eventually hit me. A flashback.

She chuckled. "In fact, why don't we race there? I am a pretty good runner, if I do say so myself." She grinned sheepishly at me as we headed out the door.

I laughed a little, "Fine. Last one there has to pay for the drinks." I smirked.

She crossed her arms, "Bring it, Styles."

I counted down to 3 and we started running through the streets and the sidewalk. So far, Carter was in the lead. I tried so hard to run faster, but the people on the sidewalk were in the way. She was pretty good at dodging the people in her way. As for I, I was stuck in between 2 elderly couples. "You can't beat me!" I heard her yell in front. I chuckled and started to run faster, we were neck and neck right beside each other, but eventually, Carter beat me to it.

She held her knees and panted, "I. Win."

I did the same, and started to catch my breath. "Fine, fine. But I want a rematch." I pointed at her and let her through the door first. We slid into a table and started to laugh and talk about how funny we looked running through the busy streets with tons of people around us. I was actually surprised at how much people didn't notice me. I took off my gray beanie and noticed that the static of the beanie made my hair fly up.

She started to laugh hysterically as I tried to fix my hair. "Oh my gosh, you look so funny!"

"Hey, why laugh at my messy hair when you have yours to laugh at too!" I joked, poking my tongue out at her.

Her laugh faded as she started to fix her hair. "What? Really?" She tried combing it thoroughly with her fingers as I started laughing back at her. "I was kidding!"

"Harry! Stop! I'm trying to watch the movie!" Carter complained as I kept bothering her by throwing popcorn kernels at her. She was so into the 'Toy Story' movie that she wasn't even looking at the things she was eating in her bowl. Her eyes were literally glued to the TV.

I threw another popcorn kernel that landed on her cheek. She gasped and rubbed her cheek, looking at me with evil eyes. I laughed at her as she started to pick up a handful of popcorn and threw it to my face. She stuck her tongue out and laughed. "You got some popcorn on your hair, Curly." Her nickname for me. I didn't know why, but it just came out of her.

I laughed back, picking the popcorn out of my curls and throwing it back to her. She squealed quietly, trying not to disturb the rest of the gang watching the movie. But apparently, that failed when Liam had shushed us.

"But Liam, Harry's throwing popcorn at me!" Carter complained like a little girl, pointing innocently at me.

"Harry, stop it. We're all trying to enjoy the movie here, unlike you." He scolded. I threw my hands up in the air in surrender when he turned back to the movie.

"You little snitch." I joked, whispering in her ear. She smirked at me, giving me an evil glare."Oh well." She shrugged in defense.

As the movie kept playing, the popcorn war got even bigger. I accidentally hit Niall, making him whine. He threw it back, but missed when it hit Jasmine. Thus, starting a war.

I smiled at the thought of the flashbacks. I don't even know how it came back to me. It just randomly came. But I'm glad it did, because I don't even remember the last fun thing I did ever since the movie night. Somehow, I just wished I could turn back the clock and would've just been okay with Carter telling me the truth.

But no, I was stupid to walk away from her. I was stupid to even feel weird about it. I guess I wasn't used to the fact that most fans are about that age, and I thought she was using me for some reason. But I know that Carter would never do such a thing. Would she? No, Harry. Don't think that.

Maybe someday, I would have the courage to talk to her again. Maybe someday, I might be able to get her back as my friend. I might have those fun times with her and the boys again. Lately, I've been feeling a bit strange, and I knew that the guys knew my sudden change. Even I did.

This time, I wasn't going to fail to get the old Harry back.

Hope you enjoyed it! I would love to see some comments, favorites, likes? I want to see what you guys think of it so far, and stuff. Thanks for the views so far too! I really appreciate it! Thank you! Byee :D
