Behind the Truth

Meet Harry Styles...

Harry Styles was one of the world's biggest heartthrobs of a certain British/Irish band called, 'One Direction'. All he ever wanted was someone to treat him well. Not as the famous celebrity, but as Harry.

He finds that when he meets Carter Hanson. A girl who has 2 jobs and is pretty much a nerd. She knows who he is, but doesn't treat him as if he were any different from herself. He's falling fast for a girl he's only just met. What he doesn't know, won't hurt him.

Meet Carter Hanson...

Carter's your typical quiet, shy 14 year old. From the outside, she seems completely happy, joyous, and carefree.

But her secrets beg to differ.

3. Meet Again Someday.

 Harry's POV:

I couldn't believe that had happened. I never talked to a girl like that in so long. Usually girls like her would freak out and beg for a picture, but not her. She didn't even notice me for a few hours of us talking. It made me feel, normal. I didn't actually think it was the way she treated me that made me realize this. It was the big brown eyes and beaming smile she let out. It was something I couldn't describe, but loved.

The moment I recognized her was when she came over to me. I didn't actually think that teenage girls like her would be in a small cafe like that. I just imagined my day to be filled with writing and reading. I thought I would be in my own little world in writing some new songs for the album. But it turned out to be a really fun day I would imagine every day.

I glanced over to the clock in my car as I drove. I was already 10 minutes late for lunch with the boys. The boys would already be used to me being late, so there was no excuse for me anyways. I turned over to my flat where the boys and I planned to meet and turned over to my driveway. I parked the car and headed towards the building, stopping at the elevator that took me to my floor. I jiggled my keys to my front door, only to be smelling the scent of Nandos. I was guessing that Niall had picked out what to eat for lunch. The boys were all gathered around the table, collecting food for themselves as they were talking loudly.

"Hey guys, sorry I'm late." I went over to the kitchen, grabbing a bottle of water as I took my seat at the table.

"You're always late." Liam noted. "Where were you today?"

"I was doing something else.." I mumbled quietly as I grabbed a piece of chicken onto my plate.

They froze, then Zayn spoke up. "You were writing, weren't you? Why would you be writing in your flat instead of hanging out with us?" Louis started laughing, making the others join in. They often made fun of how much I loved reading and writing. It didn't really bother me at all, considering that I do it more often when we have days off.

"I wasn't in my flat. I was outside." I took a bite of my food, then realizing that I was full from all those chocolate chip cookies. I pushed the plate away, looking at the boys.

"Then, where were you?" Niall asked as he began to eat more food. "Did you see fans?" He asked through his full mouth.

"Just one, sorta. It was an almost normal day. First I've had in a while." I gave my food to Niall, and he cheered.

"Seems like you've had an exciting day," said Louis, noticing the smile on my face. "Now whose making you smile like that?" I loved these boys like brothers. I couldn't hide anything from them, they knew something had happened.

"That's for me to know and for you to find out," I winked at them and went to lay down on the couch. "It wasn't a big deal anyway."
"Yes it was," Niall had finished eating and sat down next to me, "It must have been, because you have the stupidest grin on your face." I picked up the nearest object, a pillow, and threw it at him.

Seeing me throw the pillow, Louis shouted, "Get him!" and jumped on top of me. "Woo!" cried Niall as he joined in the game and landed on top of Louis.
"Oof, guys get off of me!" I yelled, but the couch muffled my words. The boys were laughing and started whispering amongst themselves. A few moments later they let me go, so I sat up. They were surrounding me and seemed to have a plan.

"Tell us what happened or you'll never see your phone again!" cried Louis. I felt around my pockets and realized they'd taken it and my wallet.  I watched as the boys each attempted to laugh like a villain from those evil movies.

"Okay fine..." I sighed.

The boys stopped laughing and looked at me, waiting for an answer. I took a deep breath and said, "I was at this coffee shop, not many people were there. I met this girl, Carter. We talked for a while, she didn't really know who I was at first. It was a nice conversation. I felt like we connected." I paused, rewinding the moment over. I didn't really realize when I had the stupid grin on my face again until Liam had snapped his fingers. "Right, so by the time I told her that I was suppose to be meeting you guys, she finally noticed me. When she did, she didn't even act like those crazy fans. She was herself."

Louis was the first to respond, "So was she hot?" and was immediately corrected by Liam, "Does it really matter what she looked like, Louis?" to which Louis nodded and then looked back at me.

"She was pretty..." I replied slowly. "She was just one of those people who's just...happy."
Zayn looked up at me from where he was sitting on the floor. "Are you going to go see her again? Maybe get her number?"

"You should, mate" Niall and Zayn added as Liam sat next to me, nodding. "It couldn't hurt."

I ran my fingers through my hair nervously,  "She'll think I'm a stalker..." I really wanted to go see her again. To talk more, to see that smile, to actually get to know her.

"No, she won't. Come on, you're Harry Styles! Go turn her on with your charm." Niall encouraged me, playfully punching my arm.

I thought about it for a minute, then nodded. "Alright. I will. That's only if I see her again." Hopefully, I will.

The next morning, I came at a early amount of time to see Carter again. I took a few good books along the way as I waited for Carter to come. It's been a few hours since I've been in the cafe, and no sign of Carter coming. Once in a while, I would read a few pages in my book, or write, then take a glance up to find Carter. I haven't seen her since. I've been doing it numerous times, making one of the workers look at me weirdly. From his uniform name tag, I can see his name was 'Connor'. I really didn't mind that he kept looking at me every time I would look up from my book, because I was hidden. I mean, I was in disguise anyways.

Then, by 3 o' clock, I saw her. She came in with her curly brown hair wearing a floral tank with white skinny jeans. Her shoes squeaked through the ground as she smiled and waved to the other waiter, Connor. Then, I saw her go to the back of the store, followed by Connor. I waited for a while when I tried to study what was going on with my book. Since that wasn't really working, I tried to figure out some lyrics for a new song in my songbook. No use. I was too distracted that she would probably come any minute.

"Looking for anyone?" I heard a female voice say from behind me. I turned around to meet Carter and smiled at her.

I scoffed, "Pft, no. I usually come here." She nodded and got the usual food I would order; chocolate chip cookies.

"I heard from Connor that you came and waited for someone for a few hours now without ordering anything. Anyone in particular?" She eyed me suspiciously.

I took a bite out of my chocolate chip cookie. "I was hoping to see you." I confessed.

She raised her dark eyebrow curiously, looking a bit surprised. "Oh, really?"

I nodded, "Yeah, I guess." I played with the pages of my book and let out a shy smile. Then, I thought about asking her for some lunch someplace else instead of eating cookies every day. "Hey, do you want to go grab a bite to eat?"

She looked a little unsure at first, but when she looked at Connor who was glancing at her as he wiped the other table beside us, he nodded at her. It was probably to see if it was okay to go when she just arrived to work. She bit her lip and looked back at me, nodding. "Uh, sure!"

My face beamed, "That's great. So where do you want to go?"

"Why don't you pick since this is your hometown?" She offered.

I thought about it for a while. This was my hometown anyway. "Why don't we head out for some drinks at Starbucks?"

"Starbucks? I love that store. Is it far from here?" She started to take off her apron from her waist and threw it to Connor, who caught it perfectly beside her.

I shook my head and started to gather my things. "Not really. It's just a few blocks. You wouldn't mind a few blocks, do you?"

"No, of course not." She chuckled. "In fact, why don't we race there? I am a pretty good runner, if I do say so myself." She grinned sheepishly at me as we headed out the door.

I laughed a little, "Fine. Last one there has to pay for the drinks." I smirked.

She crossed her arms, "Bring it, Styles."

I counted down to 3 and we started running through the streets and the sidewalk. So far, Carter was in the lead. I tried so hard to run faster, but the people on the sidewalk were in the way. She was pretty good at dodging the people in her way. As for I, I was stuck in between 2 elderly couples. "You can't beat me!" I heard her yell in front. I chuckled and started to run faster, we were neck and neck right beside each other, but eventually, Carter beat me to it.

She held her knees and panted, "I. Win."

I did the same, and started to catch my breath. "Fine, fine. But I want a rematch." I pointed at her and let her through the door first. We slid into a table and started to laugh and talk about how funny we looked running through the busy streets with tons of people around us. I was actually surprised at how much people didn't notice me. I took off my gray beanie and noticed that the static of the beanie made my hair fly up.

She started to laugh hysterically as I tried to fix my hair. "Oh my gosh, you look so funny!"

"Hey, why laugh at my messy hair when you have yours to laugh at too!" I joked, poking my tongue out at her.

Her laugh faded as she started to fix her hair. "What? Really?" She tried combing it thoroughly with her fingers as I started laughing back at her. "I was kidding!"

She clicked her tongue and sniffled a laugh as she stood up. "What will it be?"

"Hey, I lost fair and square. You stay and I'll pay. What do you like?" I stood up alongside her and asked.

"You know I was kidding, right?" She raised her eyebrows.

"Oh good." I let out a breath and sat down. She gasped and giggled in offense. I stuck my hands up in surrender and said, "I was kidding too. But seriously, my treat."

"Fine. But next time will be my turn." She implied, pointing at me. I nodded, and thought, she actually thought we would go out again.

She ordered a double chocolaty chip frappuccino while I ordered a green tea frappuccino. I paid the cashier and told my name as an 'H' so nobody would notice me. Once the cashier had called our names, we took a seat at our table and started to chat.

It was easy to make conversation with Carter. She was easy to talk to and her upbeat attitude was contagious. She mentioned that she'd been a fan since X-Factor. It had been on TV when she'd first moved here and she and her 2 best friends had loved us ever since. I loved the fact she was a fan, but she didn't treat me like a celebrity. To her, I was just a guy she'd met at a cafe.

Then, I remembered what she told me yesterday, I snapped my fingers and told her about her two friends. I mentioned her name and her friends squealed that Carter actually knew me.

"You're friends are really nice people. A bit crazy, but nice." I described them, making her chuckle.

"I warned you." She sipped her drink. "But, once you get to know them better, they're really cool people."

"Why can't I? You can bring your friends and me and the lads can all hang out together someday." I suggested.

She almost choked on her drink, "R-Really?"

I nodded, pursing my lips. "Of course."

After chatting and drinking our drinks, Carter had excused herself to head over to the restroom. I stayed behind and waited alone at the table, checking my messages.

1 new message:

Liam: Word on the street is that ur running around the street. havin fun?

I chuckled and texted back seconds later.

Me: yeah, I just lost to her in racing. Might go to the gym tomorrow.

My phone beeped a few seconds later.

Liam: Wow, you must like her alot. make ur move on her.

I locked my phone as Carter came back, smiling. I stood up and we both started to walk back to the cafe. When we arrived, I stopped in my tracks and looked into her big brown eyes. "Hey, Carter?"

She looked at me, "Yeah?"

"I had so much fun today. I wanted to know if I could get your number? So we can hang out again?" I quizzed, shoving my hands in my pockets, nervously.

"Of course." She beamed. We swapped phones and typed in each others numbers. I gave it back to her and she looked at her phone, smiling again. Her smile always made me melt a little. She gave me back her phone and saw her number.

"Do you need a ride home?" I offered, pointing to my car. She looked over to my black Range Rover and shook her head.

"No thanks, my house isn't that far. Thanks for the offer, anyways." She replied. "Thanks for an amazing day, Harry."

I waved at her as she started to walk inside the cafe. When she was out of sight, I smiled to myself and walked towards my car, heading home.

Carter's POV:

Today was just amazing. I couldn't believe I actually hung out with Harry Styles. No, wait. Stop Carter, you can't fangirl.

He was such a gentlemen. He paid for my drinks, opened the doors for me, and even laughed at my corny jokes. I was in pure shock. I walked into the cafe where I met Connor. He was smirking at me while the whole cafe was silent and empty.

"Why, hello Carter Hanson." He smirked, peering at me as I blushed. "How was your date?"

I rolled my eyes and scoffed, walking towards the 'Employee Lounge'. "It wasn't a date." I told him from inside, grabbing my stuff.

"Oh, really? Sure looked like one." He acknowledged me. I stepped out of the room and sat on the chair, setting my stuff down and helping him clean up.

"Well it wasn't." I picked up empty cups from the messy tables and wiped the tables.

"Good, 'cause you know your parents will kill you if they found out you were dating an 18 year old." He admitted. I threw the plastic cups away in the trash and started to sweep the floor.

"I don't think that Harry might actually like me, Connor. It was just a friendly hang out. You know, to get to know each other more." I shrugged.

"Oh yeah? You should actually see the way he looks at you." He advised.

I scrunched my face, "Relax Connor. Nothing will happen. We might just end up as friends, I guess."

"Alright, whatever you say." He sang, stacking napkins together.

Just then, my phone started to buzz in my pocket. I picked it up, unlocked it, and found that I had two new messages.

From Mom:

Carter Hanson! You are late! Why are you not home yet!?

I rolled my eyes at her text and replied back;

I'm coming home now. Busy day today.

Then, I checked the other messages.

From Jasmine:

How did she find out?

Please comment and tell me what you think! I would really appreciate it! Thanks for the views so far c:
