Behind the Truth

Meet Harry Styles...

Harry Styles was one of the world's biggest heartthrobs of a certain British/Irish band called, 'One Direction'. All he ever wanted was someone to treat him well. Not as the famous celebrity, but as Harry.

He finds that when he meets Carter Hanson. A girl who has 2 jobs and is pretty much a nerd. She knows who he is, but doesn't treat him as if he were any different from herself. He's falling fast for a girl he's only just met. What he doesn't know, won't hurt him.

Meet Carter Hanson...

Carter's your typical quiet, shy 14 year old. From the outside, she seems completely happy, joyous, and carefree.

But her secrets beg to differ.

17. First Date.

Harry's POV:

"FINALLY." Louis exclaimed, throwing his arms up in the air. I told him about me asking Carter out a 2 days ago, and he's now celebrating in his own way.

"What's going on, lads?" Niall suddenly walked in followed by Zayn and Liam right behind him.

"Harry..." Louis patted my shoulder. "Has finally asked Carter out.."

The boys exclaimed instinctively, giving my high fives and patting my back and/or shoulder like it was a big deal. I asked Carter out, so what? It wasn't such a big deal if you ask me.

"So, where are you taking Carter?" Liam asked me. Oh shoot, I haven't thought about that...yet.

When Carter called me that morning, telling me that she wanted to go out, I thought I was dreaming. It was weird, because it was early in the morning, and it wasn't the right time to accept a date unless you've been thinking about it all night. When I realized it wasn't a dream, I was relieved. "Um, I haven't really thought about it yet. Got any ideas?"

"Girls like dinner and going to the cinema." Zayn advised.

I shook my head, "It's too common. I want to show Carter that I'm not those typical guys she thinks they are. I've always been known as a player. I want to show her I'm different. I don't want her to feel disappointed."

"That's the sweetest thing I've ever heard you say.." Niall cooed, his hand resting on his chest as if he was touched with hearing me say those words. "I've never seen you so excited to impress a girl."

"She's not just a girl.. She's more than that." I dreamed. "Anyways, back to the question."

"Um, you should take her to a picnic under the stars. Very romantic and unique." Liam requested, pointing to me.

My eyes lit up in agreement, pointing back. "That's brilliant, Li! Thanks, mate." I patted his shoulder and ran up to my room, starting to think about how the night would be planned out.

Carter's POV:

I brushed my hair in front of the mirror, getting ready for my date with Harry. I didn't exactly know where he was taking me, but I was hoping it was someplace nice and quiet. That was all I needed for my day. Excluding the part when my mom called me so early in the morning, I needed the nice break away.

Jasmine and Louise were in my room, helping me get ready for my date with Harry. I had just threw on a simple floral dress with a cropped blue jean jacket, and black combat boots.

"That's cute for a first date. Gosh, I still can't believe you have a date with HARRY STYLES." Louise implied on his name. "It was just yesterday when we were eating our butts off in front of a TV for being single on Valentine's Day."

I looked back at her, rolling my eyes. I adjusted my earrings onto my ear. "I'm still single, I'm just going out with him. That doesn't make me his girlfriend...yet." I slowly spoke.

"Yet? You think he's going to ask you?" Jasmine asked.

I shrugged, "I don't know. But it would be weird, you know, dating a 14 year old. I mean, wouldn't it be bad for his image?" I walked over to my bed, joining them since I was already finished with my outfit. I was just waiting for Harry to come pick me up.

"If he asked you out, that means he doesn't care. Trust me, I think you mean more to him than his image." Jasmine assured me.

I slapped my thighs, sighing. "I mean, whatever happens, happens, right?"

"And we have your back!" Louise smiled. "Now, where is your prince taking you?" She air quoted 'prince'.

"I don't know. He didn't say. I'm hoping it's someplace quiet though."

"Yeah, why were you so worked up today?" Jasmine questioned curiously, tilting her head.

"My mom called me at like 5 in the morning just to tell e to be safe. I've been hearing that ever since she left, and she's getting on my last nerve. But just forget it.." I paused, taking a deep breath. "I'm going to have fun tonight, and that's all I want."

"That's the spirit!" Louise exclaimed. "While you're on a date, Jasmine and I will be scarfing down some of your leftovers in the fridge, and maybe watch a movie."

I chuckled, rolling my eyes. "Alright. But the sushi's mine." I cleared up, eying Louise.

"No promises." That's when the doorbell rung. "Now, go have fun. Tell us all about it tonight." Jasmine winked.

I got up from the bed, grabbing my bag and checking myself in the mirror for one last time before I answered the door. I swung it open, seeing Harry. He was wearing a white v-neck with a black blazer and skinny jeans. Simple outfit, and I had to go all fancy. Stupid me.

"Hi." He greeted shyly.

"Hi." I walked forward, closing the door behind me.

He pulled out his arm, "Ready to go?"

I linked it with mine, smiling. "Yeah." He led me to his Range Rover, opening the door for me like a gentleman. I slid in, waiting for him to come from the other side. When he did, he started the engine. "So, where are you taking me?"

He smirked, "Can't say. Just wait till we get there."

"But why not?" I whined, pouting.

"That's pout won't work with me, Carter." He winked, his eyes on the road. "Don't worry, we'll be there as soon as you know it."

Jasmine's POV:

"Where do you think they're going?" I heard Louise ask me from the kitchen. I knew she was trying to find something to eat. I heard the bangs of cabinets, and the refrigerator. I was in the living room, clicking on a bunch of channels to watch. No good shows or movies were on that time, and I was getting bored.

"Don't know. Maybe like dinner and a movie?" I guessed randomly, searching for movies on demand.

Louise came back with a bowl full of popcorn. She leaped on the couch beside me, grabbing a handful. "I guess."

It was silent for a while, only hearing the volume of the random show we were on, and Louise's crunching of the popcorn in her mouth.

"Carter's really lucky. I mean, what girl ever has the chance to go out with one of the biggest boy band of all time?"

He mouth was full, "I know, right? If I ever had the chance with Liam, I wouldn't actually fangirl in front of him, I would just like him for him."

"You're saying you like Liam?" I raised my eyebrows. She just nodded, turning back to the TV. "Yeah, what about you?"

"I kind of like Niall.." I confessed quietly.

"Really? He's cute too." She corrected herself, "Everyone's cute in the band."

"But I don't think we're their types, I mean... they're 19."

"Carter got the chance, who knows? Maybe our prince may come." Louise inferred, shrugging.

I turned back to the TV, continuing to click channels. "Yeah." I mumbled. "Maybe."

Maybe our prince may come...

Harry's POV:

"We're here." I announced. During the ride, I had told Carter to put on blindfolds for her not to see. I wanted to make this night perfect for her. She deserves the night out after all her hard work. This only happens rarely for her when she's with her parents, and I wanted her to have the night she deserves.

"Can I take off my blindfolds now?" She asked, turning her blindfolded eyes towards my direction.

I shook my head, realizing she couldn't see what I was doing. "Nope, I'm taking you there." I unsnapped my seat belt, launching out of the car. I rushed over the other side, opening her side of the car door. I let out a hand, helping her out of the car. She was slow and hesitant, like she was cautious of where she was going.

"Don't make me bump into anything, Harry." She told me.

I closed the car door, locking it and led her towards the picnic spot. "I won't.." I held her close and tight, making sure she wouldn't fall.

"Are we there yet?" She asked, still walking slow, her head turning wherever she could.

"Almost..." I paused, taking a few more steps. I stood behind her when we were right in front, getting ready to unwrap her blindfold. "Here." I fully took it off, her eyes glistening with joy.

She gasped. "Wow.. Harry.." Her hands met her chest as if she was touched by what she saw. I had set up a moonlight picnic (Liam's advice) on top of mountain where we could see the moon up close, and the stars brightening. I laid out a picnic blanket with a picnic basket filled with food and a bunch of flowers spread out around the blanket. It was dark, and I knew girls loved flowers. At least, hopefully Carter would like them.

"Do you like it?" I asked, hopeful for her answer to nod.

She was silent as she kneel down on the blanket, looking at everything that was laid out in front of her. "I love it."

I smiled, joining her on the blanket as we sat across from each other. We started to talk about the updates on our lives with me in my celebrity life, and with her and her regular, but busy life. It ended up with us starting to eat everything I had packed in the picnic basket.

"This is really good." She told me. I fed her one spoonful of pudding. "Did you make this?"

I scoffed, "I wish.." She chuckled, making me smile. Her laugh was infectious, and without her laugh, she just wouldn't be Carter. "But I did..." I took out a container filled with cookies. "...make these." I opened the container, seeing my homemade chocolate chip cookies I made that morning. Chocolate Chip Cookies was our inside thing for each other. It was like a symbol of when we first met, as known as the day I would never forget.

"Aw, chocolate chip cookies?" She cooed, grabbing one. She bit onto it, closing her eyes. "MM... They're good. I didn't know you baked."

"Really? I thought a directioner like you would know stuff like this." I smiled sheepishly.

She rolled her eyes. "I wasn't obsessed. I just really like your music." She chewed on her cookie again.

"So who was your favorite in the band before you met me?" I asked curiously. I rested my hand on my knee, waiting for her response.

She gulped, "I didn't really have a favorite."

I raised my eyebrow, "Really? I thought every fan would have a favorite."

"Not me. That just seems like you're not the right fan to have a favorite. I mean, you like a band, right? Meaning more than one person in that band. It makes more sense liking all of them rather than liking one. It's an all or nothing thing. You either like all of them, or you don't." She paused. "If you did have a favorite, I prefer to use the term, 'admire', not 'like'."

I nodded understandingly at her theory. Who could argue with that? It was technically true. We spent minutes continuing to talk and laugh about our lives and random topics. I was having really fun with her. She was always cheerful, sweet, and had an amazing personality.

We stopped talking for a while, and just looked at each other. It wasn't just a quick glance, it was a deep stare into each others eyes. Her big brown eyes stared into my eyes, feeling like it was the perfect moment.

"You're not like other girls, Carter." I told her. "You're different than any other girl I know."

"How different? Different weird?" She quizzed.

"Different..." I pursed my lips. "...just different. Good different."

"Yeah. You're different too." She agreed. "Good different."

"Because I'm a celebrity, right?"

She shook her head. "I haven't actually thought about that for a while. I've just always thought you were the normal Harry Styles. Not celebrity Harry Styles."

She actually thought of me as normal Harry Styles, not celebrity Harry Styles. Another thing why I fell for her. She never treated me differently. She doesn't treat me as if I were any different from herself. Tonight, I felt like nothing was going to make me angry. Nothing was going to get me down. Just, nothing.

After the amazing date with her, it made me realize that I was falling for her even more.

And hopefully she would feel the same way.
