1. The Theory

The theory of Plate Tectonics:

The lithosphere is broken up into sections. These are what you call plates. They move on a plastic-like layer of the mantle. The plates are made of rigid lithosphere. The lithosphere is made up of the crust and upper part of the mantle.

The Earth's crust is divided into 12 major plates. They move in various directions. This movement causes them to collide, pull apart, or scrape against eachother. Each type of interaction is a set of tectonic features.

Tectonic- The deformation of the Earth's crust as a result or consequence of plate interaction.
