22. Without You

I was pressing back my own tears as I ran out of the bedroom, leaving Bethany. I didn’t want to leave her, but I got a call an hour ago saying we were leaving for the airport for a press conference in Australia- just my luck, as always.

Seeing her face as I ran out pained me even more than I thought it would. I knew it was going to bother her; me just running out but the fact that she wasn’t in the best shape made it so much worse than it needed to be.

“Are you okay?” I looked up and saw everyone looking at me.

“No.” I said and looked out the window.

“You know, all she does is bring you down; why do you stay with her?” Zayn asked. I slowly turned my head to look at him and shot him daggers.

“Because I love her.” I said through gritted teeth. Zayn immediately shut up and turned away.

“You know you’ll see her in a few days.” Louis pointed out.

“Yeah…” I said slowly. “I know…”

I hope…

I curled myself back in bed because I didn’t want to be bothered by anyone. The fact that Harry had to literally up and leave like that without warning hurt me. I obviously couldn’t do anything about it but I really hated it. It was his job, so I had no say. If I wasn’t allowed to go, I couldn’t fight it. His management was nice enough to let us go with them on some trips, we couldn’t go everywhere with them.  I just knew I had to suffer through the next few days without him.

“Hey, you okay?” I looked up and saw Zee standing in the doorway.

“I hate how management does this.” I whispered. Zee came over and sat down next to me. She cuddled up next to me.

“I hate it too, but we still have each other.” Zee whispered, looking into my eyes.

“I love you.” I whispered.

“I love you too.” Zee said, smiling. I gave her small smile before Bradie came running in, jumping between us.

“Sorry to interrupt, but I was bored by myself.” Bradie said as she made herself comfortable between us.

“Jeez…way to be; just ruin mine and Zee’s moment.” I joked. Bradie smirked and shrugged.

“Oh well.” I giggled as I watched Bradie flip through channels. She settled on a NCIS: Los Angeles marathon and we settled down together to watch for the rest of the day.

It was around five when we all went downstairs to make mac n’ cheese for dinner. We were all sitting in the kitchen, waiting for the water to boil when the house phone rang. Bradie went over and picked it up while Zee and I listened.

“Hello?” She asked. “HARRY! HI!” Zee and I laughed as Bradie continued to talk to Harry. When the water was boiling, Zee dumped the noodles in. “Harry wants to talk to you.” Bradie said as she handed me the phone.

“Okay.” I said as I took the phone. “Hello?” I turned away and walked out of the room.

“You didn’t pick up your cell phone…” Harry said slowly.

“We were all downstairs and my phone is upstairs.”

“That would make sense. How are you feeling?”

“I’m alright.” I said slowly. “Are you alright? You sound sad.”

“I miss you…” Harry whispered. “I’m not used to leaving you for work. Normally you come with me, and the fact that you didn’t this time bothers me. That and I know you aren’t in the best shape either. I told you I would be there and I’m not.”

“Hey, babe…I’m fine. I’m going to be okay. As long as you’re okay, I’ll be okay.”

“Promise?” Harry whispered.

“I promise. Now, why don’t you get some sleep? I’ll talk to you tomorrow. Isn’t tomorrow the press conference?” I asked.

“Yeah, that’s tomorrow.”

“Okay well than I’ll watch it on TV tomorrow. What time is it on?”

“Probably around three…” Harry said slowly.

“I’ll make sure I watch for it. Now have fun.” I said.

“Alright, I love you.”

“I love you too.” I whispered. I hung up and walked back into the kitchen and put the phone back.

“How is he?” Zee asked.

“He sounds worse than I do.” I said slowly.

“You’ll both pull through.” Zee pointed out.

“I know we will.” I said with a slight smile. Zee and Bradie both smiled at me as we finished making dinner.
