34. Weakness

As he walked away, I closed my eyes, suppressing back anger. Harry did see me watching him, which is probably what he did what he did- to see if it would affect me, and it clearly did. It made me want him more than I thought I could. I shook the thought away and dashed to class, sliding into my seat seconds before the bell.

After school, I tried to avoid Harry at all costs. I got home and quickly got ready for work. When I got to work, Kelsey was waiting for me.

“Hey there…you look tired.” Kelsey smirked as I got closer. “Nice neck.”

“Shut up.” I mumbled.

“So who’s the lucky guy?”

“Liam Payne.” I sighed.

“Ahh…you don’t like him, do you?” I shrugged and looked at her.

“We dated once before and I kind of have feelings for him.”

“But…?” Kelsey said slowly.

“But I feel bad since I’m half using him.” I sighed.

“FOR WHAT?!” Kelsey yelled. I slapped her arm and she winced.

“I don’t know…that’s why I feel bad.” I whispered.

“You’re pretty fucked up…you know that, right?” Kelsey added in. I nodded slowly.

“Yeah…I know.” I sighed as she walked away. I went back to the bathroom to try and cover up my love bites as best I could before I went around to wait on tables.

For the next two days, I tried to avoid Harry like my life depended on it. I didn’t want him to see me and make another comment. It was also to the point where I would lie to Liam and tell him I was working on this huge project so I couldn’t join them all at lunch.

However, Friday after school, seeing Harry was inevitable. I was dreading this moment from the minute he made the comment about me watching him at soccer practice earlier this week. At the final bell, I closed my eyes so I could mentally prepare myself. I made my way to my locker only to find Harry and Liam both there, waiting for me.

“Hey babe.” Liam said tensely.

“Hey.” I said, glaring at Harry, only making him smile.

“So…are we still on for eight?”

“Of course babe. I’ll be done at Harry’s by six.” I said as I kissed his cheek.

“Alright…I’ll pick you up at eight.” I nodded and he kissed em once more before he walked away. I turned to Harry and sighed.

“So…why haven’t I’ve seen you at lunch? And don’t give me some bullshit excise like you’ve been giving Liam.” I glanced at Harry and rolled my eyes.

“Wouldn’t you like to know?” I said sassily.

“Do you have someone else you’re getting with?”

“What if I did?”

“I’d tell Liam.”

“With what proof?” I questioned, smiling at myself. Thankfully, Harry didn’t have an answer for this. We walked to his car in silence and once we got into the car, Harry hesitated. “What’s the problem?”

“My dad is home…” Harry whispered. I tensed up, remembering Tuesday, which brought the memories all back. My eyes started burning and I tried to fight tears. I knew if I wanted to get over it…I would have to face my fears.

“It’s okay.” I finally said. I looked at Harry and he had a slightly scared look in his eyes.

“Are you sure, Bethany? I don’t want him to hurt you…”

“Like you could give two fucks.” I responded. “We’re going to your house.” Harry sighed and started the car. I knew I probably should’ve said my house but… I couldn’t show weakness to Harry. That was the last thing I could do right now.
