Wanted You More

Bethany is top in her class, head-strong, and basically you're definition of a perfect girl but she has no intention of trying to be like every other girl and try to get Harry, the popular, good looking, soccer star, to like her...in fact, she doesn't really like him. But when Bethany is assigned to help Harry get his grades up and he realizes that Bethany is different than everyone else, will Bethany cave into giving Harry a chance or will she continue to stick to her idea that he is a spoiled, stuck up ass?

Includes sex, drugs, alcohol, self harm references/actions, and cursing.

38. I Understand More Than You Think

Harry:

Monday morning, I was on my way to school. I hadn’t gone home all weekend, nor did I intend to after today. After today, I planned on leaving for good. I needed to get away from here. I didn’t know what I was doing, but it had to be done. I had to show Bethany I could open up. If this backfired, I was out…for good.

I walked into English late. One of the girls was in the middle of presenting her speech. I handed Mrs. Hall my pass and made my way to the only seat open…next to Bethany. I looked over at her and she kept her face straight, not looking at me.

“Harry?” I looked up and saw Mrs. Hall looking at me.

“Yes?”

“Do you have a speech prepared?” I nodded. “Well?” I got my speech out, walked up to the podium, and took a deep breath.

“Okay, uhm…” I stammered. I looked over at Bethany and cleared my throat. “If I could go back in time and change anything…” I took a deep breath and locked eyes with Bethany. I felt everyone around me disappear, and I was only talking to her. “I would change my sister’s death. Her name was Gemma. She was about eleven years old when she died…” I stammered. I felt tears prick my eyes and Bethany’s mouth dropped open. “She died…from…” I closed my eyes, unable to go on. “I’m sorry…I can’t finish this.” I whispered.

“That’s okay Mr. Styles; I see you put a lot of effort into it. Thank you.” I nodded and handed my speech paper to Mrs. Hall.

“May I go?” Bethany asked, raising her hand. Mrs. Hall nodded and she walked up to the podium. “Uhm, so this isn’t what I planned on saying but…I would rather say this.”

“Ms. Wacker…that wasn’t the assignment.”

“I know Mrs. Hall…but I think this is better. I thought of it in homeroom and didn’t have time to write it down.” Mrs. Hall sighed but nodded.

“Proceed.” Bethany gave her a weak smile and nodded.

Bethany:

I couldn’t believe I was doing this. I couldn’t believe Harry did what he did. He looked me dead in the eyes, like I was the only person in the room and told me about his sister. It honestly almost made me cry myself.

“Okay, so…if I could go back in time I would bring my brother and sister back to life so I could know them better. Chris died before I was born and Sam died when I was just a baby so I don’t remember how it happened. Even if it was only for one day…I would like to bring them back so I could get to know them a little. I feel like a part of me is missing every day because I’m missing them both so much.” I gulped and smiled as Mrs. Hall smiled.

“I’m very sorry to hear about that Bethany.”

“It’s alright.” I said, forcing another smile. I walked back to my seat and I felt Harry looking at me.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” Harry whispered.

“Why did you need to know?” I whispered back, letting a tear slip down my cheek. “It’s not like you would’ve cared anyway.”

“That’s not true!” I whispered back.

“Really? Why didn’t you tell me about Gemma?”

“Why did you need to know…?”

“Because we’re more alike than you think; I understand.” I shot back. I turned back to the front and watched the rest of the presentations for the rest of class.

When the bell rang, I ran out of the class as fast as possible. I ran right into Louis. He grabbed my arms so instead of me going down, my books did.

“You seem to be in quite the rush.” Louis joked. I forced a smile.

“Yeah, sort of.”I whispered as I scrambled for my papers.

“You okay?” Louis asked, looking genuinely concerned.

“Not really.” I whispered.

“Want to skip class with me?” I looked at him like he was crazy.

“Are you serious?” I asked making him shrug.

“Sure; why not? I do it all the time.” I looked around and nodded.

“Yeah…that’d be nice.” Louis smiled and grabbed my hand.

“This way ma’am.” Louis said, smiling. I gave him a weak smile as he dragged me through the halls.
