Living Without Her

Crimson Echo Dixon is now 23 years old. She was 17 when her girlfriend, Lana Jane Parks, was severely burned in a house fire and died a day later. Everyday, she thinks about her. Crimson wonders if she'll ever let Lana go.

This is Crimson's life, and it still feels like Lana is in control.

This is the sequel to "My Angel".

8. Whisper In The Dark

"I know what you and Cassandra were doing last night," Lana hisses at me. She's sitting at the foot of my bed when I turn around from the closet, she's next to me. I've never seen her look so alive; this hallucination is kind of freaking me out. "I thought you loved me and only me."

"I took your advice. I'm trying to let you be at rest. It's really great to have someone to hold me instead of imagining someone holding me," I tell her.

She looks into my eyes. They're no longer the soft brown they used to be. They're black. "I didn't mean it. I didn't think you'd believe it." Her eyes change back to the light chocolate I vaguely remember them being. "I don't want to hurt you, but if I have to, I will. You're mine, not Cassandra's."

"You're dead. You even said it yourself, dead, dead, dead." All hints of innocence disappear and she has me pinned against the wall, gasping for air.

"You listen you sick son of a bitch," she whispers in my ear, "if you don't want her to get hurt, you'll stop seeing her and you'll return to me. You'll talk to me every night you used to and leave flowers every once in awhile. I really love when you bring me flowers." She clenches my wrists tighter, making me yelp. "Remember Crimson, I love you."

She vanishes, and I crumble to the floor, crying and holding my left wrist tenderly.

What do I do? I wonder. Cass might not believe me. The doctors will probably lock me up. If I take my meds, I'm not actually here with Cass.

I slowly make my way to the kitchen and grab an ice pack for my wrist.
