Make It Last

An ordinary girl working at her ordinary job until someone shows up she never imagined seeing at her morning shift at Starbucks.

12. Dinner Problems

Niall’s POV

“So, son, you like my daughter?” Chris, Kate’s father, asked me when we were alone. The other boys were goofing off, driving around on the golf cart, while Chris and I were actually playing.

“Um...yes sir, I do, a lot.” I replied, trying not to blush too much.

“Well, I think you are good kid, so I approve.” Chris smiled and nodded.

I returned the gesture and chuckled. “Thank you Mr. Bloom.”

“Son, call me Chris, if we’re gonna be family one day.” At the thought of me and Kate being married, I could definitely tell I was blushing like crazy. I laughed and we continued to play. When the boys finally caught up with us, I tallied up our scores and it showed that I barely beat Chris.

“Oh, Chris, Nialler beat youuuu!” Harry screamed. We all just laughed and walked back to Chris’s car.

“So, lunch at Chick-Fil-A boys?” Chris asked us. What the hell is Chick-Fil-A? I thought. I must’ve said it out loud because Chris replied with a gasp and said, “You don’t know what Chick-Fil-A is?!” We all shook our heads and he said, “It’s probably the best chicken fast food restaurant you will EVER eat at!”

“To Chick-Fil-A we shall go!” I practically screamed. Any place with food is fine by me.

Kate’s POV

“MOM! Look at the one!” I shouted from behind the dressing room curtain. I was trying on a mid-thigh, strapless, purple dress with a black belt below the boobs. It looked really good, but it was really expensive. I know my mom was paying so I wanted to make sure she liked it and the price was okay. I heard my mom’s voice asking for me to come out. I did as she asked and tore open the curtain. Gasps filled the room as I revealed myself in the dress to everyone in the dressing room.

“Kate… you look… beautiful.” My mom slowly said with her hand over her mouth.

“You like it?” I replied, laughing.

“Of course, don’t you girls?” my mom asked El, Dani, and Tiffany. They all nodded, still in awe. Finally Tiffany broke the silence and shouted, “Damn girl, you look hot!” Everyone laughed and I thanked her.

Once all the other girls tried on their dresses, my mom paid for them and we were off to get our nails, hair, and makeup done. Arriving at the salon, we all picked out our colors and hair styles. Each of us was assigned our own stylist to do all of our work for the day. Ashlyn was assigned to me, Annie to El, Samantha to Dani, and Cali to Tiffany. When I used to live here, Ashlyn and Cali were mine and Tiffany’s best friends until we moved away.

It was fun while we were getting all dolled up to catch up with our old friends. Since we moved, Ashlyn had gotten engaged to her boyfriend of 5 years, Jason, and Cali met a boy who worked at the gym she works out at, and they have been dating for 2 years now.

After 3 hours of painting nails, straightening, curling, hair spraying hair, and doing makeup, we were ready to go out to dinner. By the time we got back to the house, the boys were in their suits, ready to go. Once we walked in the door, all the boys jaws dropped to the floor. I walked over to Niall and gently shut his mouth, only for it to fall back again. I laughed and kissed his cheek, leaving a small kiss mark in pink.

“You look stunning, babe.” Niall whispered in my ear as we walked out to the limo.

“You don’t look to bad yourself, Mr. Horan.” I smiled and he kissed my forehead.

And we were off to Perry’s Steakhouse, the fanciest restaurant in Florida. “So guys, listen. We decided we would let you all have time alone, as teens, no parents.” My mom said to the group.

“Mom, you guys have done so much for us today, at least stay for dinner.” I begged her.

“No, no. You guys have fun. We will have the limo pick you up at 8.” I just gave into her by shrugging my shoulders and giving her a hug, “Thanks, mom.” She smiled and they drove off after we got out. Walking into the restaurant one person caught my eye. I decided to let him go unnoticed and just keep walking to our reserved table. I saw him coming closer out of the corner of my eye so I sped up grabbing onto Niall’s arm. That is, until I felt a muscular arm grab my shoulder and pull me back. Not violently, just enough to make me stop and turn. I looked up to find exactly who I didn’t want to run into tonight.

“Who are you, mate?” Niall asked when he noticed I stopped.

“Sam, and who might you be? The Little Leprechaun?” he replied and let go of my shoulder to cross his arms. Uh-oh, this could not be good.

“Niall, Kate’s boyfriend.” Niall replied confidently, grabbing my arm. “Let’s go babe.”

“Yeah, not so fast leprechaun. I finally found Kate and you are not going to take her away from me this time.” Sam spit out at Niall.

“How do you know Kate?” Niall said and stepped forward, closer to Sam.

“She’s my ex-girlfriend. Actually, she still is my girlfriend. Let me tell you a story.” Sam said to Niall. I knew exactly where this was going. He was going to tell the story of how I left him.

FLASHBACK *2 years ago*

“Sam, what the hell?!” I screamed in Sam’s face. “What are you doing kissing her?! I thought you loved me?!”

I waited for his answer, but then stormed out of the room into mine. We shared an apartment but each had our separate rooms. I quickly packed all my clothes into my suitcase and climbed out the window onto the fire escape. I raced down to parent’s house which luckily was only a couple blocks away and banged on the door, tears streaming down my face. My mom asked me what was wrong and I explained to her. From then on out, until I graduated high school, which was only 2 months away, I lived with my parents again. When they took me to London with Tiffany for graduation, we decided on living there.

Since then, I haven’t talked to Sam. What a great time to run into him… note the sarcasm.

“Niall, I don’t want anything to do with him. Trust me. I like you, and only you. I love you, Niall.” I was shocked by his facial expression, which was pure shock.

“I-I love you too Kate. Let’s go, bye Sam.” Niall said before kissing me and grabbing my hand.

“No, you aren’t going anywhere with my girlfriend.” Sam said, pulling me back.

“Let. Me. Go.” I said between tugs, trying to get out of his firm grip.

“No way, princess. You are coming with me,” Sam pulled me harder.

Niall’s POV

“No way, princess. You are coming with me,” Sam said with an evil smirk and jerked Kate back harder. I could see the fear on her face and that’s when my anger built up inside of me.

“Let. Go. Of. Her.” I stepped closer to Sam.

“Or what, pretty boy.” Sam replied to me.

“Or this..” SMACK. I punched him right in the nose.

“SHIT.” He yelled and released Kate, grabbing his nose. I smiled contently and we walked away.

“My hero...” Kate smiled and kissed my cheek.

We joined the rest of the group at our table and ordered our dinner. The rest of the night was full of laughter and happiness. At 8, like Kate’s parents had said, our limo arrived to pick us up. When we got home, we all watched movies like Toy Story, Liam’s choice, Insidious, my choice, The Last Song, El’s choice, and Safe Haven, Kate’s choice. By the time we finished all of these, it was almost 4 in the morning. I looked down to see Kate sound asleep in my arms. I smiled and kissed her lips. I was pretty comfortable, so we just slept there.

I fell asleep with a smile on my face, knowing the girl of my dreams was safely in MY arms, not that douche Justin.
