6. Cue The Music

Harry’s POV

I smirked up at Niall when he sat back down at our booth, “Dude, you’re whipped and you don’t even know her name.”

“Since when has being whipped been a bad thing? Plus, at least I can get a girl and keep to her.” Niall replied while glaring at me. For some reason he’s been really touchy about the subject of girls and none of the lads knew why. I had a feeling, though, that it had to do with the fact that he has been single the longest out of us boys. Some people have even said that he likes being alone; that’s untrue. He always says that he’s waiting for the right girl.

But what innocent little Niall hasn’t learned is that there is no such thing as the “right girl”; that’s just an illusion that people chase after.

I, however, have learned that lesson and am smart enough not to go looking for the right girl.

As I zoned back into the conversation I saw that Louis, Zayn and Niall were talking and I also realized that Liam was glaring at me. “What did I do?”

“Just because you don’t have any desire whatsoever to have a girlfriend, doesn’t mean you have to put down Niall,” Liam hissed at me, looking over to make sure the boys weren’t listening.

I leaned closer, “I’m just telling it how I see it.” Liam shook his head at me because apparently I wasn’t
“behaving” lately. Whatever that means. Man, lately Liam and Louis had been eating the same Poop Loops because they have both been on my case about me going out and having a good time. I rolled my eyes; I could do whatever I damn well pleased.

I caught a snippet of what they were talking about and I listened in. “I think you’ve got a good one this time Nialler.” Zayn nudged him.

Niall laughed, “I hope so; do you remember Ashley? She was crazy.”

“Yeah, stay away from girls that knock on our doors at 2 in the morning demanding to know what brand of underwear you use,” Louis laughed. I had to agree with them, that girl was insane. She always followed us and would not leave Niall’s side. It was getting to the point where she was tracking Niall’s every move.

“Did you see her eyes though? I’ve never seen someone with two different colored eyes before,” Niall mused.

“Me either,” Liam said.

I snorted; sometimes they could be incredibly thick. “Guys,” I said and their attention turned to me. “Colored contacts, obviously.”

They all shook their heads. “Why would someone wear different colored contacts?” Zayn asked.

I shrugged, “Attention?”

Niall scoffed, “Would you stop being so cynical?”

Looking at him a bit closer, I could tell that he genuinely liked this girl. I have no idea why because she seemed quite rude when she bumped into me. But I didn’t want him getting attached to her because I don’t know if he missed it or not, but she had a kid. I may not know much about relationships, but when one member already has a kid, but I do know that’s not exactly the best way to begin a relationship.

Niall’s may not be the youngest in the band, but we all feel protective over him as if he was. And with the hectic schedule our band has, he didn’t have time for this degree of a serious relationship.

“Did you see the little girl that was with her?” Louis asked, voicing the problem I had noticed.

“Yeah, wasn’t she cute?” Niall asked us.

“She was adorable,” Liam admitted and Zayn & Louis nodded in agreement. Did no one else see the problem? How did I suddenly become the responsible one?

“Well, we have to leave now if we want to make it to the meeting with Simon on time. We really shouldn’t be late, yet again.” Niall added. He motioned for the waitress to bring the check and he put down his credit card. When she came back we gathered our stuff and left the restaurant. As we got in the car, I couldn’t stop thinking about the extra phone I had in my pocket. I know I really shouldn’t care, but I should probably return it to whomever it belonged to.

The ride to Simon’s office was pretty boring, each of us were involved in our own thoughts. I took out the mystery phone and began searching through her contacts. There was nothing out of the ordinary, but I did come across a number labeled ‘home’. I dialed the number, but it went to the answering machine. I didn’t leave a message and hung up as we pulled up to the building.

“Hello boys,” Simon said.

“Hey, Uncle Simon,” we chorused.

“How have you been?” Liam asked as we walked towards his office.

“Not bad, busy, but good.” Simon answered. We reached his office and he sat behind his desk. “I have an idea for an opening act for the Take Me Home tour. What do you guys think about having a deejay as the opening act?”

We looked at each other, exchanging glances. “Wait, I thought I was the resident One Direction DJ?” Zayn joked.

Simon smiled at him, “A more professional deejay, no offense. I thought that the deejay we hire could mix the songs from Up All Night before you boys take the stage. It’d be a new addition for you boys and I think it’s a good idea. But only if you guys agree.”

“I think it’s a great idea,” Niall said and his eyes were lit up in excitement.

I nodded, “But what deejay will be opening for us?”

“Well, that is the second reason I called you in for this meeting. I have scheduled 4 interviews beginning in a half hour; I wanted you boys to have a say in who we hire. You will be touring with them, so you boys have to get along with them.” Simon told us.

“Sounds good,” Louis said, looking between us.

Simon pressed the intercom and requested that his assistant bring in the informational packets about the deejays being interviewed. The assistant, Claire, brought in the information and handed each of us a packet before leaving.

“Each of these deejays has a good reputation at the clubs they work at and people really like them. Hopefully, you will find one that you like and want to work with.” Simon said.

I looked through the pages, none of the deejays catching my eye. Three of them were guys and another was a girl named Storm. No pictures, but each of them had good reviews just like Simon had told us. In no time, Simon had us move to a bigger room where we could all sit and talk with the deejay.

There was a knock on the door and Claire let in the first deejay. He was wearing all black and had black eyeliner rimming his eyes. I raised my eyebrows and out of the corner I could see the boys doing the same.

Simon asked him some questions and once he finished we listened to one of the guys mixes. It wasn’t bad, but not really our style or the type of music our fans would enjoy.

We dismissed him and Claire brought in the next deejay. This deejay and the next were not right for our band. By the end of the third interview I was losing hope about finding a deejay for our tour. There was only one more person to interview; the girl. I honestly had no hope for this girl to end up on tour with us.

As Claire opened the door, a familiar face entered the room while carrying a car seat. “I am so sorry, but I couldn’t find anyone--,” She said but Niall cut her off. It was the girl Niall was talking to at the restaurant earlier.

“Storm? Sophia?” Niall asked, thoroughly shocked.

She looked up, her multicolored eyes focusing on us. “Niall? What are you doing here?”

“Interviewing deejays for our tour…wait, what are you doing here?” He asked.

“I got a call for an interview.” Storm told him. She then turned towards Simon, holding out her hand. “Hi, Mr. Cowell. My name is Storm. How are you?”

“I’m doing well, thank you.” Simon clasped her hand. “Please, sit down.”

Storm sat down, “Again I apologize, but I couldn’t find anyone to babysit on short notice.”

“Don’t worry about it. If all goes well this shouldn’t take long.” Simon waved a hand. Storm smiled at him, but I could detect a hint of apprehension in her eyes. “Now I called you here because these boys are going on tour and we were planning for a deejay to open for their tour.”

“Tour?” she asked looking completely confused.

“Yes, it will be One Direction’s second tour,” Simon answered. She still looked confused, “You do know who One Direction is, right?”

“I’ve heard of them, but I didn’t recognize their faces. I’m sorry.” Storm answered.

“Oh, not a problem; that actually works out better.” Simon said and I looked towards him; he had a grin on his face. Simon asked her the same questions as he did during the other interviews. Storm answered them with ease, never faltering under his intense questioning. Niall’s grin was getting bigger as Storm answered each question; I’m sure he’s excited that he might get the chance to tour with his new crush.

Simon played a remix of hers and the boys smiled. “I really like this,” Zayn said. “You have serious talent, Storm.”

“I agree,” Simon said. “If you’ll excuse us, the boys and I need to discuss something.”

Storm nodded, “Of course.” She picked up the car seat with the little girl and left the room.

“So boys, what do you think?” Simon asked.

“I like her,” Niall said immediately.

“I think she is the perfect deejay for us to have on tour.” Liam announced.

Zayn nodded, “That was a really good remix you played. I can’t even imagine how she would make our songs sound.”

“I agree with all of them,” Louis said.

Then they all turned towards me. “Harry, what do you think?” Simon asked.

I looked at all of them. They all looked really excited about the idea of having Storm as the opening act, especially Niall. Even though I don’t believe it’s a good idea for her to tour with us, especially since Niall has a crush on her. I wanted to say no, but my mouth had other ideas. “Sure,” I said. “Plus she’s pretty fit.”

Simon glared at me, “No flirting with her Harry. She’s off limits.”

I rolled my eyes; I wasn’t interested in her. “Niall, do you want to call her back in?” Simon asked. He hopped out of his chair and called out to her. Storm came back in, the baby now in her arms. “Well, I have good news. The job is yours if you want it.”

“Really?” Storm gasped. Simon nodded. “Wait, what about Sophia?” She asked, nodding her head towards the baby she was carrying.

“She is perfectly welcome to come on tour with you. The boys’ stylist has a year and a half year old that travels with her.” Simon told her.

Storm looked to be deep in thought, “Can I give you an answer later today? I just have to work things out with my roommate.”

“No problem. Give me an answer when you’re ready.” Simon told her.

Storm nodded and gathered her things to leave. She carefully stood up while carrying her baby and reached down to pick up her bag. “Here, I’ll walk you out,” Niall stood up from his chair and picked up her bag from the floor. “We’re done, right Uncle Si?” Niall asked. Simon nodded and the two of them walked out together.

I rolled my eyes; he was a like a little lost puppy running after her. We stood up and said goodbyes to Simon. Louis was bouncing up and down in excitement, “This tour is going to be awesome!”

“What can get any better than touring with an extremely sexy girl?” I asked aloud. I let out a yell as Zayn and Liam slapped my head.
