24. Ten Thousand Fireflies

"If I told you, you wouldn't believe your eyes.
          "Or me, for that matter.
"I swear it to be true, though. That night, ten thousand fireflies flew through my window. The light was amazing. They shone like then thousand little stars, fluttering about my room, flashing and flying about.
"Suddenly, I felt myself being lifted! I thought I was dreaming, but I wasn't so sure. It's hard to say, but I would rather stay asleep if it was a dream.
"They lifted me up and set me down gently. My right arm stayed lazily floating as if they were a man leading me in a dance. I felt myself lead on by a soft but strong grip, wondering where this phanton form was from.
"I questioned it not, for the sensation was so smooth, so uplifting. I held tight but gentle, afraid I would crush their small forms. A voice formed in my mind telling me to not worry, that they were strong.
"I danced and danced until the moon sunk low on the horizon. The fireflies released me from the reassuring hold and I felt a sense on emptiness.
"They told me it was time to go.
"I nodded, understanding, but I am not fond of goodbyes. I felt my eyes get misty as I waved farewell. But, they assured me, they were not far away.
          "All I had to do...
          "...was dream."
