23. Role Reversal

          "All she wanted was...some action...."
Jerad looked at his childhood friend, now 22, a year older than himself, his eyes slightly red from small crying-and-clutching episode not ten minutes ago.
"I know, bro," Carl replied, patting his friend on the back. "She wasn't the right one."
"I thought she cared about me," Jerad choked. His eyes began to glisten, but he blinked the tears away. He lay back on the couch, pulling another lilac scented tissue from the flowery Kleenex box,
"Bros before hoes, dude," Carl sniffled. "I feel ya, for real."
"Why do I always let myself get fooled by these rediculous, shallow girls? I mean, I'm a great guy, so why...?" he hold back a sob and blew his nose again. "Why do I keep falling for it thinking they actually care?"
Carl hugged his friend. They had been through so much together: school, college, shallow girls, and all the breakups they both had to endure. If it wasn't for Jerad, Carl knew he wouldn't have been able to make it through some of them.
"Remember what we always said?" Carl looked at his near-brother and smiled. "The right one will come along. Even when the rose is wilted, you just gotta water it and love blooms again. Don't give up hope, bro!"
"She was so sweet and caring. I thought she really loved me!"  Jerad wailed.
"Now stop it, man! You're gonna make me cry! Come on, let's go out for a nice lunch and get our hair clipped." Carl sniffed. "We can even stop of DQ for some ice cream, ok? My treat."
Jerad sniffed and blew his nose again.
"Alright," he said after a moment’s pause. "But, I want a pedi too!"
"Deal," Carl said with a smile. "Just don't bring the man-purse this time."
"It's pretty and makes me look masculine!" Jared insisted.
