9. Mother Talk

We all grouped together in Rascos tent when we returned. I leaned against a piece of furnite and the others perched on boxes or chairs, exchanging nervous glances. This was going to get interesting.

"Xanthe, Raven, these are Zeirso and Azelia. They're two of our best new recruits," Azelia looked taken aback at that, "And this is Evelyn. You probably know who she is already."

I exchanged looks with Rasco and strode towards her. I tipped her head back and pulled her eye open for a better look. Pathic.

"So this is the famous Girl with Emerald Eyes," I looked down at her and smirked, "She doesn't look like a fighter."

I moved back to my spot and looked at her intently. Well, I wasn't going to try and lie. She returned my fierce gaze and Rasco sighed.

"Xanthe is one of our best fighters and most powerful people in our group. She's been one of us since she returned from a long journey a a couple of years ago. Raven is a very powerful Warrior Wizard and she's been one of us since the rebels started. We were both part of the same Guild." I rolled my eyes at his remenising and focused myself on Evelyn. She was already looking at me with a look of hatred. Good. I work with that and toughen her up. All of a sudden, the tent flap flipped open and Cassias head poked through. I took a seat and sighed.

"Ozias wants to see Evelyn, Rasco. He wants to start her with fight training."

All eyes were trained on Evelyn. She was clearly having second thoughts about staying here, but she had to. We wouldn't win otherwise.

"Do you want to stay here, girl? You are the most important weapon we will need but you must stay at your own free will." she was thinking of saying no. I couldn't let her do that. Rasco would kill me and we wouldn't stand a chance.

"She's too weak and scared to stay. Have you even looked at her Rasco? The girl's not rebel material." I spoke up and smirked at her. Thank Saulaf for my quick thinking.

"I'll stay. After all, some of the best here don't look like rebel material." she looked pointedly at Xanthe. My eyes narrowed automically and I was about to snap some insult back at her, but Cassia stepped in. Damn him.

"Follow me then," he grabbed Evelyns arm and pulled her out of the tent. I sat back in my seat, pleased with myself. The others walked out soon after her, leaving me, Rasco and Raven in tent.

"Either of you two care to explain what you were talking about earlier? Something to do with my mum wasn't it?" they both looked at me, wide eyed, and Rasco flopped down on a chair, sighing.

"We both know your mum, Xanthe. We were very close friends," he ran his hands through his hair and looked at me intently.

"Don't you mean knew? She's dead remember."

"No, he meant know. She's still alive, love."

"She's alive, but she couldn't exactly love your father. They had a extremely bad fight and she got voilent. Started threatening to hurt you if he didn't back down and even put a knife to your fathers throat. He took you and ran away the next morning. He only to you she was dead to protect you."

"How do you know this? From what I heard early, I'm really like her," I looked pointedly at Rasco, "So she probably wouldn't of told just anyone."

"We both studied at the same Guild as her, love. I was her apprentice and Rasco was her boyfriend. They later..."

"Married, but only for a couple of years. She's changed, your mum. She's not the same person as she was back then."

"Who is she though?" I was pacing around the tent now, trying to keep myself from punching or setting fire to something.

"She's-" Before he could finish, some random rebel came rushing in and whispered something to Rasco. The man looked down at me sadly and followed the rebel out of the tent. I groaned and flames flared up in my hands.

"Calm down, Xanthe. He'll tell you when he's ready." Raven try to soothe me, but a vase of flowers in the corner soon became a vase of smoke. Wait...

"Raven, you know my mum. You could tell me who she is." She only loooked at me and sighed.

"Rasco has to tell you. He's the one who knows the most and can expain it to you the best."

There goes a table. Raven hurriedly started to try and put out the fire, leaving me free to stalk out of the tent.

Why does anyone tell me anything?
