22. Think About It

I just sat there and swallowed a dry lump in my throat.

"Are you sure?" I asked started to look around the room. You're absolutely positive. One hundred percent positive?"

"Yes, isn't this awesome.  We sold out all those seats in less than five minutes! Another full show mates!" Louis went around the living room giving us all high fives. I limply held up my had blankly staring ahead of me. 80,000 empty seats, all full of people I didn't know. Judging me.  Watching me sing.  Mostly, all girls, all dedicated directioners, some who may want to rip my head off.  I started breathing heavy.  Everything got really white and splotchy.

"Kennedy, are you okay?!" Liam said looking at me concerned.

"I'm f-f-fine. I just need a little bit of water" I said as I stood up and walked to the kitchen.  I took out a water bottle from our fridge and twisted the cap open. I struggled a little bit because my hands were shaking so much. I walked out of the kitchen and walked into my room and laid on my bed. I was not prepared for this concert.  Maybe the boy's won't make me sing. Maybe I can sweet talk Harry, or Liam. Yeah, Liam. He's a softy. I started of thinking of excuses. Laryngitis?  Cat scan? I have to get my tonsils removed? I'm allergic to singing? Singing gives me the runs? When I sing-

"Hello? Open up!" I heard pounding on the door.

I groaned then slowly sat up and stood up "Hold on I'm coming".  As I opened the door I didn't realize how close I was to the person who was outside it. When I opened the door I saw the chest of a boy with a blue t-shirt on.  I grazed my eyes up and saw Harry. Startled, I took a step back.

"What's up?" I asked trying to sound happy.

He walked in, (more like pushed past my shoulder aggressively) and let him self in.

"Please, do come in since I so nicely invited you." I rolled my eyes.

"What's the matter?" he asked looking at me. He was sitting on my window seat with his elbows resting on his knees as his hands were folded together.

"I'm totally fine. What are you talking about?" I said making sure the door was cracked up and being careful not to inch closer to my bed because that would make me feel 1000% times more awkward.

"You know I'm always here for you. You bolted out of there the minute Louis said we sold out those seats. If your nervous about singing, you can go on with all of us on stage. We'll all be there for you." Harry said.

I stared at him.

"I know. And that was probably the sweetest thing you have said to the whole time I've been here."

He chuckled and took his right hand and messed up his curls a little bit then refolded them.

"I just don't feel comfortable going on stage with all your guys' fans there. They came to see you guys, some of them paid a lot of money too. They don't want to see me. What if they hate me? Then I've ruined their experience of going to see you guys.  It's easy for you to say, you've been doing this for a long time. I know you still get nervous sometimes, but it's different. You go on there, you rehearse for a really long time. And when you guys mess up, which by the way is like never, the fans think it's the cutest thing in the world. So really, if I mess up I'm screwed. The next thing you know, I'm all over Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, E! News, probably even the weather channel and next thing you know I'll be on the face of a magazine with a huge article about how I messed up and then I'll be on MTV's ten most embarrassing moments in America, then-" I was talking really fast while pacing back forth.

"Kennedy!" Harry yelled at me and stood up. He walked up to me. I raised my eyebrows at him.

"You should really breathe during monologues." He laughed. I cracked a smile, rolled my eyes and let a deep breath go. "Better?" He asked. "No. Not at all." I sat at the very edge of my bed then stood up remembering that he was so close standing next to my bed, the last thing I wanted him to think was that I wanted this to lead somewhere else.

"The fans are excited to hear you sing, they've been contacting the whole group asking if you're good so don't worry about that. And it's not that bad once you finally get on stage. If you ever get scared just look at me, take one big deep breath and just close your eyes. That always did the trick for me when I was nervous. Whatever you do, don't picture the audience in their knickers. It can be a bit disgusting at times. Especially when Simon Cowell was in the audience. I couldn't un-see that hairy chest for months."  A real terrified look appeared on his face.

I laughed out loud for the first time in a while and gave him a huge hug. "Your so funny, and awkward, but thank you. For everything." I smiled into his chest as he hugged me tighter.

"Of course. I'll always be here for you." He muzzled into my neck. A silent knock came on my door and we separated.

"Can I talk to Kennedy really quick Haz, it's kind of an emergency" Charlie said smiling.

"No, problem. I'll go hang out with the lads for a bit." He gave me a quick hug then walked out the door.

I watched him walk out, then Charlie walked in and closed the door. She leaned against my dresser.

"I'm just going to say it. Niall asked me to come on part of the tour with the boys." She said smiling ear to ear. Did I just hear what I think I heard?

"He already asked you that? You guys aren't even officially dating, and you've only known each other for three weeks. Don't you think it's a bit too soon?"

"Wow. I was expecting a hug and a congratulations. Not a lecture. Thanks "mom"". She said with a little bit of edge to her voice.

"I am happy for you! I guess I just wasn't expecting this. What are you going to do? Are you going to say yes or..?" I looked at her and started biting my thumbnail and stopped because I realized that I never had that habit. Why was I biting it then?

"Yeah, I said yes. Are you mad?" she asked.

"No. Absolutely not! I'm so happy for you! Maybe this will make you two get even closer. You can spend so much time with him!" I started getting excited for her now.

"Yeah, that's why I said yes. I know he'll be super busy but that's his job. And I'm ready for it. I'm so happy, you know they said I can invite a friend." she looked up at me and smile crept on her face.

"Me? You want me to come?" I placed my hand on my chest. How would this work?

"Of course you! Wouldn't it be awesome! You could see Harry, and we could hang out together while the boys are busy, and we could go along and help them backstage.  Please say yes!" Charlie pleaded. I on the other hand hesitated a little bit.

"Charlie....I don't know. I mean, it's our senior year and the tour would interfere with it. I have to worry about college, and my Aunt, I don't want her to be living at home. Plus all my clothes are at home.  And our friends? How do we explain this to them. I've worked so hard to get into a good school that can help me become a good lawyer. You know that. I just can't pick up and leave.  As much as I'd like you, I'd really like to believe me. But I have to think this through you know?" I said looking up at her scared at what she'd say.

She walked up to me and gave me a hug. "I understand. Your aunt would get lonely, and maybe being with her is good for you, ever since you parents passed away, and you moved in with her, she's helped you become happier. What ever you choose I'll be here for you. Whether it's the bunk below me on the bus or if I'm half way across the country watching the boys perform while you're in your room studying. I'm your best friend, you can always count on me." she smiled.

I hugged her tighter. "Thank you Charlie." We let go. "For everything. Thank you for taking me on this trip, for everything" I smiled.

"Of course. Just promise me one thing." she said.

"You'll at least think about coming on the tour? And I mean really, truly think about it'

"Of course" I said. And we walked out of the room.

When Charlie and I walked out of the hotel room the boys were laughing.

"Louis you are so weird!" Niall said.

I made eye contact with Harry and he smiled and waved me over. I walked over to him and sat on the couch.  He leaned into my ear while keeping his head straight forward.
"Want to go for a walk?" his deep voice asked.

I nodded my head 'yes' and off we went.

As we walked along the streets of Paris I looked around. There was nobody out on the streets.

"Where is everybody? It's so quiet?"

"Paul told everybody that tomorrow we have an early sound check so I'm sure a lot of people are waiting outside by the gates. And everybody else is around if you really look." he pointed at the park across from the street. "See, underneath the trees, by the pond, on the benches, even in the trees" I followed where his finger pointed.

"I love this place. Its so peaceful. It makes me feel calm."  I breathed in the fresh air.  I smelt bagels, muffins, and gelato. A breeze blowed through the air and my hair breezed back a little bit. I put my hands in my back pocket.

"Being here with you makes me feel that way." Harry said quietly. I looked up and over to my left at him.

"Really?" I knew I was blushing

"Yeah. Really. Sorry if that was too straight forward." he looked at me.

I shook my head 'no'. "Do my monologues make you calm?" I joked.

He laughed. "Yeah, because it reminds me of myself when I used to worry about things like that and go on my own monologues."

"You? Speaking that much? But you talk so slow! That must take you a while to finish!" I giggled.

Harry chuckled and elbowed me little bit.

We walked along the streets, through parks and over old rain puddles from the night before. Harry told me stories about his mom, sister, the boys, his travels, Holmes Chapel, his fans and many other things. I listened in aw, he had an amazing life. Every once in while we'd make eye contact and our his arm would brush mine and I'd smile.  I kept thinking about how much I'd miss him when I go home.  When it became silent, and not an awkward silence, but a silence where it was nice because we didn't need words to connect, I took a deep breath.

"Charlie told me about going on tour with you guys...and how I got invited to go with her."

"Yeah, Niall, he really fancies her." that's it. That's all he said. He didn't ask me if I was going.

It was quiet for a little bit longer.

"Yes" I said.

"What?" Harry asked.

"If you were hesitant about asking me, the answer is yes."

"I'm still confused...."

I looked at him.

"Yes, I'm going to go with Charlie and you guys".

The rest of the walk was quiet but his arm brushed mine and it didn't leave. We walked back to the hotel with our arms touching and smiles on both of our faces.
