Anything but Ordinary

3. 3

Going back home...doesn't sound pleasant, but I need to get ready. It's sad that I don't like going into the very place I live. Although, I have never really called it home. I drive up to the house and see that my mother's car is gone. Perfect. I rush inside and get ready. I don't want to be here when she gets back. I stand in front of my closet. Should I go nice, but casual or should I go hot? is a party...with alcohol. Let's go with nice but casual. I don't want to look good for the drunken douches. I put on a pair of denim shorts and a flowy top. I put my sandals on and I decide to start packing. I'm leaving after tonight. I don't know where I'm gonna stay, but I'm leaving. I can't stand it here anymore. I manage to fit everything in two suitcases. I don't know what I'm going to do with the furniture yet. I grab my suitcase, load it into my truck, and I'm off. I call Chase to get his address again.

"Hello?" he says.

"Hey, um I kind of don't remember the address."

Chase laughs a little then tells me again as I write it down.

"No problem. I didn't really think you were going to come." he says.

"Why not?"

"I don't know."

"Okay. Well, I'll see you in a few."

I hang up and go back to focusing on the road. I get to the house, and there are only a few cars parked up and down the street. I thought this might be a huge party. Honestly, I am scared to go in there. I don't know anyone. I take a deep breath and walk up to the house. I don't need to be worried. I'm not usually like this. I'm usually braver than this. I knock hard on the door and Chase instantly opens it.

"Hey Ashley!"

He gives me a strong hug and I hug him back. He gives me a huge smile, obviously pleased that I'm here.

"Come on in." he says gesturing towards inside.

I walk inside and see that this isn't a big party like I thought it was going to be. I mean, there are a lot of people but it's...relaxed. Very unlike any other typical teen party. I like it. There are some candles lit and people just standing around talking, red solo cups in their hands.

"You want a beer?" Chase asks.

"Actually, I'm good. Thanks." I say smiling.

Most parties I have gone to, I have felt like I need to drink to have fun. I want to see what it's like to have fun without alcohol this time.

"Everyone, this is Ashley." he says introducing me to everyone.

They all give me friendly waves and welcoming smiles. I reciprocate and follow Chase into the kitchen.

"So, are your parties usually this tame?" I ask.

"Yeah, my parties are always like this. They are more like get togethers I guess." he says as he opens the oven and a wonderful scent fills my nostrils as he checks the food.

"What are you making?" I ask curiously.

"I'm baking a pie. I was in charge of dessert while everyone else brought different parts of the meal."

"You know, this party is different from the ones I usually go to. I like it. It's not crazy."

"What are your parties usually like?" Chase asks curiously as he raises an eyebrow.

"Honestly, you don't even want to know. Let's just say they are...wild."

Chase nods his head and we stand there in a comfortable silence. Chase looks at me and I feel my heart beating. Thump. Thump. It's beating faster. Butterflies. Warm feeling. No, this isn't happening. Ashley Miles doesn't fall for guys that fast. I look away. I get so lost in his eyes. They are so full of meaning, pureness, warmth. I smile a little to myself realizing what a fool I'm being. Chase inches closer to me until he is right next to me, his arm brushing against mine.

"Yeah?" I reply still looking down.

I'm scared to look up. These feelings are not really what I want to feel. Chase gently lifts my chin up and locks his gaze with mine. I instantly melt. I can't think straight. I try to pry my eyes away, but I just can't. Chase starts to slowly lean in. No, this can't happen. Not now. I'm leaving to California soon. I can't start anything in this city and then have to leave.

"Chase?" Chase leans in until he is right in front of my face.

"What?" he whispers softly.

"I need to tell you something."

"What is it?"

"I'm leaving to California."

"W-what?" he asks surprised and confused at the same time.

"You heard me."

We sit there for a second, him taking in the news and me waiting for him to comprehend it.

"Are you serious?" he asks.

"Yeah. I can't stay here anymore."

"Don't get me wrong, I love Dallas, but I can't take it anymore here. My mom is a bitch. She doesn't even care about me. I'm like a slave. Also, I want something new in my life. I want to try to pursue a career in music. Singer, musician, producer, something! Music is something I can't live without. I thought why not try to be a part of it instead of always being the fan. I want to be the one to make music people will enjoy."

We sit in silence for a few minutes and I jump when the oven beeps, signaling the pie is done. Chase slowly walks over to the oven and takes the pie out. I watch him as he sets the pie on the counter. I can tell he's thinking. He is the only one who knows that I'm leaving. I haven't even told my best friend. I haven't told someone I've known for years, but I tell someone I have only known a couple of days. Sad, huh? He turns back to me and starts to say something and then shakes his head.

"What is it?" I ask quietly.

"I was wondering if maybe you wanted to stay here instead? It would get you away from your mom and you could still visit friends and everything."

I am taken aback by this. Should I? I don't know. I haven't known him long, at all. At the same time, I know he won't do anything to me. I know he's pretty nice. He stares at me, hope in his eyes. He really likes me and I REALLY like him.

"You know what? Sure. I don't see why not."

A big grin spreads across his face and he comes over and gives me a strong hug. I think he has forgotten anyone is here because as soon as one of his friends come in, I feel.him jump as he hugs me.

"What's going on in here? Is the pie ready?" Chase's friend asks.

"Yeah, it's ready. It just has to cool off, Damon. Ready to eat?" Chase says.

"Heck yeah. Let's eat!" Damon yells.

We all dish out the food and eat while watching a movie. When we have eaten dinner and dessert, Chase and his friends decide to watch a horror movie. Fine with me. I can handle it. I sit next to Chase and he lays his hand out like he wants me to take it. I just sit there, arms crossed, waiting for the movie to start. I don't need to hold his hand.

"If you get scared, you can take my hand." Chase whispers.

"I don't think that's going to happen. If anyone's going to be scared, I bet it will be you." Chase laughs quietly and then the movie starts.

We are halfway through the movie and I am death gripping Chase's hand. I'm not just holding his hand though. I am as close as possible to him, hiding my face every now and then in his chest. Every time I hide, I can feel Chase silently laugh at me. This movie has officially scared the shit out of me. I hear a scream and disgusting murdering noises as I hide in Chase. I can feel him grip my hand tighter this time. I smirk to myself. I lift my head up out of his chest and look at him with the smirk still plastered on my face.

"You're scared too, huh?" I ask whispering.

Chase just looks at me, a small smile forming on his face. He doesn't answer for a minute.

"Psh. No." he whispers back sarcastically.

I grin at him and go back to hiding my face in him. I concentrate on his breathing. I feel him rise and fall. Even with the horrible noise in the background from the movie, I start to get sleepy and I fall asleep to the rhythm of his heart.
