Starlight, Starbright

In a land far, far away, there's a world that you could never have imagined. This place has no name. But it is home to numerous cats. Everything about this world is mysterious from it's blossoming, bright springs, lush, emerald summers, colorful, fiery autumns, and white, sparkling winters. In this story we trace the steps of a young heroine. From the moment she realizes what life is really about to the very second she dies. A tale of friendships and sorrows, heartbreaks and heroes, a broken connection between two sisters, a murder mystery, and a conclusion no one suspected...

24. Living The Dream

"So, who's next?"

My Drama teacher, Mrs. Thoring, is way too cheerful.

Her green eyes sparkled and her red coat shined. Well, it usually did.

Today, there was a strange tension in everyone's moves.

"Let's see..."

She consulted her list.

"Fireflame! You're up!"

I got up and went to the front of the room, carrying my guitar.

Charles gave me a thumbs up from the back.

I took a deep breath and started.

"I shouldn't love you, but I want to..."

I finished with a strum of the guitar's strings.

It was absolutely silent.

I glanced up, hesitantly.

Mrs. Thoring's jaws hung open.

"That was amazing!" Charles cried.

Applause carried around the room.

I grinned and took a bow.

Then I took a look around the room.

Not everyone was clapping, though.

Shontel and her croonies sat bored at the edge of the room.

I walked to the door, but not before she stopped me.

"Don't get too big a head, Fire. We all know what you're up to."
