But lately just love isn't enough, and there are four other lovely boys living with her and Harry in that apartment building.. Someday she'll have to make a choice...

12. Chapter 12

Louis stood there, frozen. Laura sat next to Harry, crying. Harry lay there on the floor, unconscious. Louis got himself together and called 112.

‘Hello, 112 emergency dispatch, what it your emergency?’
‘My friend, he’s on the floor, and there’s blood..’
‘Is your friend conscious?’
‘No, he’s passed out. I think he slipped and hit his head’, Louis said noticing a red spot on the edge of the counter.
‘What is your location?’
Louis gave them the address and apartment number.
‘The ambulance is on the way.’
He then sat down next to Laura and called Liam. The other boys came running into the apartment moments later. They were all horrified by what they saw. Laura and Louis were on the floor, now both crying. And Harry unconscious on the floor, a pool of blood forming next to his head.

‘W-what happened?’, Niall choked out.
Laura was beyond hysterical, unable to speak. She could only cry. She tried to explain, but all they heard was crying. She was gesturing furiously, but gave up. She stared at Harrys face again, cringing at its whiteness.

‘Laura and I, the dishes. And we had a water fight. Harry then came in, I was out and I heard her scream. And then this.’ He gestured towards Harry on the floor.

Did you shut the door behind you?’ Liam shook his head.
Then the paramedics came in, and everything went fast. They kindly moved Laura away from Harry and examined him. They then put him on a stretcher and wheeled him out of the apartment. ‘Two people can come with us in the ambulance, the rest of you have to go with your own car. Everyone agreed Laura and Louis should go with the ambulance. Laura because she was with Harry of course, and Louis because he was Harry’s and Laura’s best friend and she could really use her best friend now.

The drive in the ambulance all came over Laura in a daze. She kept crying and held on to Harry’s hand tightly, as if it was her lifeline. Louis sat there, stroking her back, saying ‘It’ll be okay, he will be okay’. He kept saying this like some sort of mantra. When they arrived at the hospital the paramedics took Harry away from them, saying he had to go to I.C.U. to check the damage. Laura collapsed on the floor when they rolled him away. She laid there, curled up to a ball, crying hysterically. Louis sat down on his knees next to her and tried to soothe her, but it wouldn’t help. Then another paramedic came over.

‘Are you with her?’ he asked Louis, gesturing to Laura. She didn’t even notice he was there. Louis nodded, stroking her hair once again. ‘Can you take her to the waiting room then? This is where the ambulances arrive, you can’t stay here, it’s not safe.’

‘Yes of course, thank you sir.’ He said to the paramedic. ‘Laura, sweetheart, you have to get up okay? It’s not safe here. Come with me to the waiting room, there we will see Harry’s doctor when he has news.’
She cringed at Harry’s name, but she got up. The crying went down to a little sobbing, because she knew the doctors would do their best. They had just settled in the waiting room when the other boys came rushing in. The waiting was a true torture. Every time a doctor came in they hoped it was Harry’s doctor, but every time it wasn’t. After an hour or so they were the only people left in the waiting room. Then another doctor came in, this had to be Harry’s. It was a long, broad man, somewhere in his forty’s, with thick dark hair and a moustache.

‘Are you with mister Styles?’ they all nodded. ‘He hit his head pretty hard, and thanks to that, there’s some swelling in the brain. We decided to keep him in an artificial coma, and he’ll wake up when the blood in the brain is gone.’

‘Won’t that like, affect his brain, or his memory?’ Liam asked the doctor.

The doctor shook his head. ‘No, that only happens in very severe cases, but with cases like mister Styles it’s almost never that complicated.’

‘Can we go see him now?’ Laura asked, looking up at the doctor.

The doctor nodded. ‘Yes you can, all of you can, but you have to stay calm.’

‘We will doctor.’ Laura whispered.

A nurse guided them to Harry’s room. As soon as they walked in the room Laura started crying again. It was a miracle the girl had any tears left. The sight of Harry like this had cracked her, and the boys could see why. There was a bandage around his head, so almost no curls were visible. His face was pale and his eyes were closed. But he didn’t look like he did when he was sleeping, he didn’t look peaceful at all. But the worst were all the wires and beeping machines next to him. It all together looked pretty bad. Laura sat next to the bed and grabbed Harry’s hand.

'Harry?’ there was no reaction of course. ‘I’m so sorry Harry, I’m so sorry.’ She said crying, laying her head on the bedside.

‘Laura sweetheart, this is not your fault.’ Louis said to her. ‘It was an accident.’

She gave no response, she just sat here holding Harry’s hand. They all stayed in the hospital that night. The nurses offered them a room. The boys took it, but not Laura. She refused to leave Harry’s side.
