9. It's My Fault

~Haneul's POV~

"Calm down, Haneul," I said to myself. "You can do this."

I pulled my dark blue hoodie over my head and put on a heavy jacket. Then I arranged the pillows so it looked like I was sleeping. What if I get caught? I can't even imagine what he would do to me.

"Alright. Here we go," I sighed and went over to the window. I opened it and a cold gust of wind came into the room.

I took a deep breath and swung my leg over the ledge. It was still snowing, but with a mix of rain, so the tree branch I had grabbed onto was slippery. I closed the window quietly and started climbing down the tree.

There was a thin layer if ice on the tree and I almost slipped. I had to be really quiet. I could see Oppa asleep on the couch.

Once I got down from the tree, I ran as fast as I could until I couldn't see the house anymore. I took out the neatly folded piece of paper out of my pocket and read what was written on it.

The address he told me to meet him at was only a block away from my house. How come I never noticed him before? Oh, that's right. I never leave.

It was a small, quaint house, probably big enough to house a small family. I rang the doorbell and waited for at least a minute.

It wasn't Siwoo that answered the door. He looked familiar, but I can't remember where I've seen him.

I looked back at the paper to see if I made a mistake, but it was the correct address. Did he send me to the wrong place on purpose?

"I-I'm sorry. I must have the wrong place," I fretted.

"No, this is it," he smiled and grabbed my arm to pull me inside. I panicked, but I was too afraid to do anything. "You look so much better today."

"W-what do you mean?" I stuttered. "Who are you?"

"I'm sorry. I almost forgot to introduce myself. I'm Siwoo's brother, Ray," he said. "You passed out yesterday. I was the one carrying you."

I was a little relieved that he was Siwoo's brother, but I barely knew anything about them. I don't even know why I came anymore.

"Have a seat. I'll go get Siwoo," he said and left me alone.

I sat down and looked around the room. There were pictures with two little boys, who I'm assuming are Siwoo and Ray. Other pictures had people who I guessed were their parents. They both had warm, loving smiles, unlike the cold, hateful look Oppa always had.

"I didn't think you would come," Siwoo said nervously as he entered the room. "I'm glad you did."

"So, um, what were you planning on doing?" I asked and hoped it wasn't something bad.

"We're just going to hang out," he answered. He held his hand out, but I just stared at him. "It's okay. I'm not going to hurt you."

I reluctantly took his hand and we left his house. Ray came along, too.

"Where are we going?" I asked. He was still holding my hand, which made me very uncomfortable. He seemed to have noticed because he let go right away.

~Siwoo's POV~

She always acts so strange. It's like she's afraid of everything. But why? I won't ever hurt her. I can't even think of doing that.

"Where are we going?" She asked. Her hand was shaking in mine. I didn't want her to be more scared than she already was, so I let go.

"I don't know. We'll see where we end up."

She looked scared when I said that. I feel bad, but I also find it kind of cute how she's always afraid.

We walked in almost complete silence, with the occasional comment here and there.

"Stop being so awkward," Ray whispered. Those are really the words of encouragement I need right know...

We ended up at a small coffee shop in the center of town. We both got hot chocolate while Ray just had water.

"So, Haneul, where are you from?" Ray asked. "Siwoo says you're a new student."

"I've always lived here. I just haven't gone to school until now," she answered quietly.

"Why haven't you gone to school?" Ray wondered.

"I wasn't allowed to." She seemed to be getting more uncomfortable.

Ray didn't notice and kept pestering her with questions. "Why weren't you allowed to go?"

"I think that's enough questions, Ray," I interrupted. "I'm sure Haneul has some questions for us, too."

She stayed quiet and kept her eyes on the table.

"It's okay. You can ask us anything," Ray said.

She bit her lip, something I noticed she does a lot when she thinks. "C-can I meet your parents?"

I felt my face go pale and I didn't have the guts to answer that. Ray noticed and took over.

"Our parents are on a business trip and they won't be back for a while," he said.

Haneul's expression changed slightly and she looked a little disappointed. "They look really nice."

"They are," I managed to say. I hoped that she didn't hear how choked up I was.

She kept glancing at the clock. It was only nine, so I don't see why she should worry. She did say her family was strict, but I doubt they'll be upset if she gets home at this hour.

"Woah, look who it is!" Someone yelled. I recognized the voice right away. Kai.

"I'll be right back," Ray grumbled.

I stopped him. "I can handle this. I'll be fine."

"Don't do this today," Ray begged.

"I'm not going to. I promise," I said. Haneul had no idea what was going on, and it better stay that way.

I followed Kai and his friends outside. "What's taking so long? Where's my money?" Kai growled.

"I'll get it to you soon. I just don't have it right now," I said with a shaky voice.

"You better, or we might just have to kill you," Baekhyun threatened.

"Don't jump to conclusions yet," Kai stated. "Who's the girl?"

I didn't answer. I don't want her to get involved.

"She's very pretty. We could just take our money's worth out of her," he chuckled.

"I swear, if you touch her, I will fucking kill you," I spat.

He just laughed. "Oh, so Siwoo thinks he's tough now, huh? I would hurt you so bad, but I don't want to give a bad first impression to your girlfriend."

"She's not my girlfriend..." I mumbled.

"It's not like you could ever get one, anyway," he teased. "Get me my money, or I'll hurt you and her."

That's exactly what I didn't want. She's in danger and it's all my fault.
