Troubled

During the Tears In Heaven Masquerade at Stratford High School, the badboy and well known player, Justin Bieber, finds himself swaying underneath the ceiling of the gym with a mysterious girl.
"Remove your mask." His hoarse whisper commanded.
"That would be against the rules." She smirked at him.
"Well I'm a rule breaker baby." His smirk matched hers. "At least, tell me your name?"
"Why ruin the fun?" She asked as the song ended and she disappeared in the sea of masked students.

Warning: This chapter contains violence - read at own risk.

"Hey babe." It did not take long for Alex to recognize the obnoxious way too overdo, in a try to be seducive, voice.

"What do you want Justin?" She sighed as she closed her locker. Justin had been on her nerves ever since that night at his house. Apparently she had pushed his buttons so badly that he had to actually leave the house, because he was so pissed at her for ditching him. Yet Alex could not be too conserned about it, she was just humored by the thought of the situation and even the memory of it had her cracking a laugh.

"Besides you? Nothing." Alex snickered at his reply. If he thought that he was going to win her this way, he would seriously be in for a long ride. "I just want to take my baby out on a date."

"Well," Alex stopped in her way towards her first class and turned to look at him. "first of all, I am not your baby-"

She started off but she could have sworn that she heard Justin whisper something along the lines of "You could be." though she quickly brushed it off and continued.

"-second of all, the rules said nothing about dating." She smirked at him before turning to continue her walk towards her class, leaving Justin stunned and confused as ever in the hallway.

***

"What did she say?" Ryan gushed as soon as Justin took his seat beside him in Chemistry.

"Apparently the rules said nothing about us going on dates." Justin mumbled before he pulled his bottom lip between his teeth. He was confused beyond limits.

"So, basically; you were blown off? Damn." Ryan shook his head before leaning back against his chair.

"We sweet talk. We fight. We talk 24/7. We tell each other 'good morning' and 'goodnight' every day. We take walks together. We watch movies. We give each other nicknames. We talk on the phone all night long. We hold each other. We cuddle. We kiss. We hug."

Alex was right, there was nothing in the rules about them dating. It only made the whole bet thing even harder. How was he supposed to make her fall in love with him if he could not take her out on expensive dates or spoil her with public appearances and jaloux looks from earlier lovers of his?

Justin was lost as he realized that his 8-days plan wouldn't be enough to make her fall for him and thereby hand over the victory to him. He would have to go another way around. He would have to change his type. He would have to become... boyfriend material.

***

A broken breath left her lips as her pointer finger traced the pale white line. She breathed in sharply as the first single tear fell from the corner of her eye. A flood of tears followed the first in its path down her overheated cheeks, before they fell off of the tip of her chin.

She wasn't one to break down easily or by the smallest touch, by no one could have predicted what she would be met with that day.

She was shaking like an earthquake, while laying on her bed as the memory of earlier flashed through her.

"I have to meet up with Justin, I'll see you later." Jazzy hugged her tight before dissapearing down the hallway leaving Alex alone. The school was almost empty, the only exception being the afterschool clubs.

Alex turned in her locker combination with a sigh, impatient to head on home to her silly ass uncle. It was Tacos Tuesday, so who would not be exited?

"Well, well, well - would you look who we have here. Alex Jacobs in person." An unfamiiar voice spoke, forcing Alex out of her thoughts of Tacos, gummy bears and her favorit book, laying on her bedtable. She searched the hallway looking for the source of the voice, though it did not take long before her eyes landed upon the only other people in the hallway.

Three girls, all dressed in their own color - yellow and light blue for the two sidekicks and pink for the obvious leader and apparently the owner of the voice as well.

"Can I help you with anything?" Alex spoke before shutting her locker and thereby allowing her full attention to be laid on the three girls.

"Well you see," The pink dressed girl spoke as she took a couple of steps towards Alex with a smirk upon her face. "I have this small problem. My boyfriend has started to see someone else, what would you do?"

Alex readjusted the bag on her shoulder before settling her hands into the pockets of her dark jeans.

"I'm sorry, I don't know." She forced herself to keep eye contact with the life size barbie doll infront of her.

"Well let me tell you what you should do," Alex was taking aback by the sudden harsh tune in the barbie dolls voice. "you should stay the fuck away."

"Excuse me?" Alex took a step back. Her body was paralized with confusion by the threating tune in her voice.

"You heard me Slutzilla, stay away from Justin or else." The barbie doll leaned in closer to Alex while whispering the last part.

"Or else what?" Alex was never the one to let go without a fight and this time was not an exception.

"What's that?" The barbie doll's smirk grew even wider upon hearing Alex's question. "You want a preview? Well girls, why don't we show Miss Jacobs here what you get for being a boyfriend stealing hore?"

Before Alex was even able to realize the meaning of her words, she felt herself being pushed against the lockers. A faint scream passed her lips as a set of hands grabbed her head on each side before banging her head against the lockers repeatedly.

As her scream turned silent she focused her strength on counting instead. 19-20-21-22-23.

Her head was banged against the locker 23 times before the grip on her head dissapeared, and she was left to slid down the lockers to the floor.

Her head was pounding and she could feel the warm stream of red liquid running into her hair and down the side of her face. Though she did not get long to focus upon these facts before a hard kick to her stomach was made, causing her to lose her breath.

Shortly after another kick followed. Then another. Then another. Alex had given up on making any sound at all. All she could see was pitch black as she was laying there on the floor, taking another kick after kick with silent tears streaming down her face.

Her heart was aching with the thought of how anyone could be so literal and violent.

Then silence arrived.

A blood boiling, ear piercing silence that paralized her with fear.

"I think we're done for the day, but that was just round one, bitch." A wet substance landed on the side of her face and Alex knew all too well what it was. Spit. "Oh and by the way, red suits you."

Three pairs of high pitched laughters filled the hallway as they walked away, all radiating of joy.

A broken cry left her dry lips as she grabbed ahold of the slim rubbedband around her wrist. She flickered it. One, two, three, four times, before finally pulling it further back than ever before and then letting go of it.

She was unable to study the swollen skin on her wrist, though she knew exactly how it looked.

The burning sensation was just as good as always and it filled her with a sort of satisfaction.

She felt empty and hollow inside, as if she was already dead. The situation and feelings were all to familiar with her and she knew that only one thing would create just a small spark of life inside of her. Even if it was just for a short second she was willing to grip the chance, she always was.

With a shaking hand she picked up the blade. She was ready to paint yet another fine thin line next to the old one.

With a flood of sobs she lifted the blade to her wrist. Her hand was shaking so badly that she knew she would have to press hard if she wanted the line to be straight. She would have to make the line straight if she wanted it to match the old one. Therefor she had no choice.

She angled the blade, making the thin metal just slightly touch her heated skin. This wrist was not swollen from the rubberband. This wrist was only for carving and never for the rubberband. That was how she liked it. A wrist for each.

A gasp left her lips as the cold metal came into contact with her skin. She took a second to just feel the emptiness inside of her and she felt happy knowing that she could replace it with the pain.

She took a deep breath and held in a couple of sobs, before her vision was clear from the tears. She was ready. With a slight push she dug the blade deeper and deeper. Having done this a couple of times before she knew exactly how much pressure it would take before her skin would burst open and the warm red liquid would flood out.

She just needed to press a little deeper.

'Click'

Her head snapped up by the sound and her tight grip loosened around the metal, making her drop it on the bed sheets.

'Click'

She took a quick look around the room looking for the source.

'Click'

The balcony door!

Quickly as the lightening she rubbed her face with the bed sheets, before throwing on a long sleeved sweater and hiding away the blade in her bedside table drawer.

'Click'

In a slow and cautious speed she made her way towards the balcony door.

'Click'

She pulled the curtain to the side getting a good look at the intruder.

"What are you doing here?" She mumbled as she pulled her door open and stepped out onto the balcony.

"I thought we could hang out for a while." He shrugged before digging his hands into the pocket of his jeans.

"I'm not in the mood." She simply stated in a dry voice, before turning on her heels ready to walk back into the warmth of her room.

"Hey," He stopped her by gripping onto her arm and turning her around to face him again. "Have you been crying?" A mist of concern covered his golden brown eyes as he studied her face.

"No." She stated once again, doing everything in her power to avoid his gaze.

"Don't lie to me." He begged her before wrapping his arms around her petite body, making her stumble into the embrace. "What's going on?" He cooed in her ear as he stroked her hair.

"I can't tell you." She breathed into his chest. The tears had started rolling down her cheek once again and she felt embarressed that she was crying in his present.

"Sure you can. I'm here for you!" He whispered before slightly pressing his lips against the top of her head, leaving a soft and reassuring kiss there.

"No I can't." Justin sighed before pulling out of the embrace and holding her enough inches away for him to study her face.

"Of course you can. Just tell me baby." He lifted his hand and tried to dry away her tears, unfortunately new ones kept replacing them. For once Alex did not care that he had called her baby and she did not complain. All she cared about in that moment was the fact that the empty and hollow feeling inside of her was gone as long as his touch was on her.

"Will you hold me then?" She caved in, not caring a thing about seeming weak or easy any more. All she wanted was to be saved. Saved from herself and the emptiness threatening to take over again.

"Of course I will baby girl." Justin send her a small reassuring smile, before letting his thumb trace her cheek once again drying off tears. "Just tell me."

"I'm troubled Justin." Those words were the only thing she managed to get across her lips before she broke down entirely for the second time that day. Though the difference from the one earlier, was Justin being there and holding her in his arms while it all took place.

Justin did not mind knowing nothing at all. He just hoped that when the right time came she would let him in on this dark side of hers.
