13. Going to the's too late.

I woke to the sound of my alarm beeping loudly. 4:00 read the clock. I shut it off, then got ready. I bought my plane ticket and packed yesterday, after I found out about Claire's grandma.

I sat in a chair with Louis's arm around me. I was devastated.

"Listen, I thought about what you said yesterday. About how you 'Loved me first'. What did you mean?" I asked.

"Well, if anyone ever split us apart, like Josh, just know I was there first and loved you when I saw you the first time."

My eyes welled up with tears. Louis pulled me close.

"I know it's hard. Everyone has their time, though." He whispered.

"No, I'm crying because of what you told me. I love you, Louis." I fell into his gorgeous eyes.

We boarded the plane a few minutes later, and I soon fell asleep.

3 hours later, I awoke in Louis's arms.

"Oh, hello, love. How are you holding up?" he asked me.

"Surprisingly well. I'm ready to see her, then move on. I know it sounds mean, but I can't just sit on my bum in grief for the rest of my life. I've got a hot man to marry!" I grinned, then winked.

"Really? Who is he?" Lou pretended, looking around. He looked like an idiot. I lightly punched him on the arm.

"I'm looking right at him." I said.

"Oh! It's me! Well, yes, I am quite a hot man aren't I?" He said, sarcastically.

"The hottest." A man who looked about 60 years old was sitting in the row across from us. He stared as we made fools of ourselves.

We got off the plane an hour later, and I wasn't very nervous. Was I being too overconfident? Nah, Grandma is so tough and strong, she'll make it through just fine.

We got settled in Grandpa and Grandma's house, then headed over to the hospital.

Man, she's really confident that her grandma will make it through perfectly. I'm not so sure. When my grandpa died of this exact same thing, it was a horrible battle he was forced to fight in.

Claire and her mom entered the room, while I stayed back. I heard a small yelp, then someone burst to tears.

"Is everything alright? I asked, coming through the door. Claire shook her head no, while her mom just sat there with tears rolling down her face.

Claire's grandma is dead.

Grandma. Is. Gone.

We missed her. We were too late. Louis came and hugged and kissed me. I pushed him away.

"STOP!" I yelled.

He stared at me.

I told him to move, then I ran. I didn't know where I was going. Just away from Grandma. Away from Mom. Away from Louis.
