4. Chapter 3

The next day at school Joseph kept running into me in the hall way. I bet he was doing it on purpose. He wasn’t running into me like hitting me, he was running into me like we saw each other in between every class. I didn’t mind though. In science we were trying to finish up our research assignment, but these two boys, Joe and Tony, somehow ended up in a fist fight. They ended up knocking each other out and blood was everywhere. The only reason they got so far was because Mr. Lou was in the bathroom. Most fights only last seconds. By the time everything was cleared up and Joe and Tony were at the nurse, we had no time to finish it. At the end of class Mr. Lou said, “The research papers are due when you walk in through the door. If the fight caused you to lose your focus, then that should teach you not to encourage fights.” We were dismissed for busses afterwards. On my way out the door Joseph stopped me and said, “Since we didn’t get done we should get together. Here’s my number.” He handed me a piece of paper with his number on it. I nodded and replied, “Meet up at my house in an hour. Here’s my address.” I got out a piece of paper and wrote down my address. I handed it to him and dashed home. When I got home Lynn and Jack were both home. Usually Lynn isn’t home for another thirty minutes. They looked mad. “Something wrong?” I asked. “Nothing. Just the fact that you snuck out yesterday,” Lynn said. “I didn’t sneak out,” I said a bit angry. Jack clicked a button on the remote and the television showed a video of me sneaking out my window. “You put a video camera in my room?” I shouted. Lynn walked toward me and smiled. “We knew you were sneaking out, so we got proof. Now, you’re grounded.” I hatefully looked at her, and then I walked half way up the stairs. That’s when I realized grounded meant no cooking. I went to my room and over to my dresser. I looked everywhere, but I couldn’t find the camera. I decided to just take a thick blanket and covered my whole dresser and everything on it. Then I pulled out my cell phone and called Joseph. I told him to meet at the library. I snuck out my window and slid down the pillar holding up my balcony. I ran to the library and Joseph and I finished up our assignment. When we were done he invited me to his place for dinner. I thought about what Lynn would do if she found out. Then I decided to go with Joseph. When we got to his house a little boy greeted us at the door. He looked no older that seven. “Bubby! You’re home,” the boy shouted with glee. Joseph picked him up. “Oh, uh, Kelly this is Joey. Joey this is my friend Kelly,” he said. “Nice to meet you Kelly,” Joey said with a grin. I just smiled. I was a little shy. Then Joseph parents walked in. “Hey Joseph. Who’s the girl?” his father asked. “I’m Kelly,” I said. “Oh it’s really nice to meet you,” his mom replied. I found out his dad was a cop, and his mom was a stay at home mom with his brother. His dad’s name was George, and his mom’s name was Marry. They invited me in and we ate spaghetti. After dinner we sat down and watched television and joked around for a while. At about nine I started home. I didn’t care if Lynn got mad. I walked home and trust me, it was a long walk. About three houses from home the police stopped me. One of them got out of the car. My heart started to race. I started to think Lynn called them.
