2. Chapter 1

“Lynn! I’m heading to school now,” I shouted from the door. “Fine. Just remember to come straight home afterwards,” she hollered from the living room. “What ever,” I replied. Let me stop right there. I know you’re supposed to respect authority, but I don’t respect them. They think that just because I’m a loving girl that I’m going to act like nothing ever happened and they’re my real parents. Trust me that will never happen. I walked out the door and walked to school. I only ride the bus if I’m in a really good mood. When I’m not in a good mood, I walk. It helps me clear my mind. I also need to get use to my new surroundings. I had to move to a whole new town called Sunset Valley. In this town everyone does know everyone. When I got to school I had to go get my schedule from the principle. The principle’s name was Mrs. Freeman. Mrs. Freeman had assigned me someone with the same schedule to show me to each and every class. I had math, followed by reading, history, wood shop, and choir. After fifth period was lunch. At the end of the day I had study hall, art, and science/chemistry. The day went pretty smooth. It was just a normal day of learning. My last class is science for the first semester. Second semester is chemistry. We get a new lab partner each term. When I got in the class room my teacher, Mr. Lou, introduced himself and told me to check the seating chart to see where I sit. I looked at the chart and sat down in my seat. There were nine different lab benches. I was at the lab bench directly in the middle of the room. About five minutes after the bell rang a boy walked in. I was going to guess he was my lab partner since I was sitting at the bench by myself. “Sorry I’m late Mr. Lou,” he said while catching his breath. Mr. Lou looked a bit annoyed. “What exactly is your excuse this time Mr. Miller? Let me guess. You lost your homework while stuffing your books in your locker, or did you leave your book report at home so you needed to call your parents to bring it here so you wouldn’t fail reading?” The boy walked over to Mr. Lou, handing him a note. Mr. Lou looked over it and gave out a short laugh in disbelief. Then he read it aloud. “Dear Mr. Lou. Please excuse Joseph for being late. He came to my office with a head ache and I had to make sure the Ibuprofen was working. Nurse Nichole.” Mr. Lou went to his desk drew and looked at a piece of paper. He put the note and the paper in the desk drew and closed it. “Sit,” he commanded. Joseph walked over and sat next to me. Mr. Lou began teaching. “Now class, today we will be learning about the different parts of the human body. This will go on for the rest of the term. After we learn about each part we will do a dissection. First we will do research on the human eye. After we have our research papers complete we will dissect a cow eye. Now get on the computer with your partner and start the research. The papers are due Wednesday. Begin.” I was in front of the computer so Joseph moved his stool closer. I pulled up an internet tab and went to Google. “I’m Joseph. What’s your name?” He asked. “Kelly,” I replied. “Cool,” he said. After class I walked home again. I couldn’t get my mind off of Joseph. About half way home I stopped. I knew what was going on. I was in love.
