The Butterfly

This poem was originally written by my older brother, Raymond Travis Napoli. When going through boxes in my garage one day, I stumbled upon his old poetry booklet and couldn't help but take a peak inside. Out of all the poems in the booklet, this one became my favorite almost instantly. He wrote this when he was 14 or 15, and every time I read it I tear up a bit. This poem touches my heart, and I hope it brings you as much joy as it brings me.

1. The Butterfly

Few can fly with the grace and beauty of the Butterfly,

Only few have the grace of kindness

and the beauty of the soul,

An uplifting spirit on a soft wind,

One who will lift others,

One who will take them in from the cold,

One who will do their best to uphold

The spirit that lies within,

They teach others to reach new heights,

Teach those who cannot, to fly,

To change a broken wind

And a careless fall

Into a gliding crescendo,

To fly with such beauty,

As only you.
