2. Day 1

Louis POV

Alright, it was my go. I really wanted to impress her. I had spent the night learning how to play some chords on the guitar so that my plan would work. I parked my car in the usual spot and made my way into the school. I was quickly approaching her locker, a smile playing on my lips, when she turned around, smiling. She took my breath away. She started walking towards me, reaching her arms out. Was she going to hug me? I had only known her for a day...Oh well, I wasn't going to complain. As she got closer, she walked right past me! What the...I turned to see her hugging someone. Another guy. Who was not Niall, Liam, Harry, or Zayn. And definitely not me.

Emma's POV

"Mike!" I exclaimed, throwing my arms around his neck and pulling him into a tight embrace.

"Emma!" He hugged me back, even tighter. He groaned and he released me. Mike was the only thing I liked about my new house. He was my step-mother, Michelle's, son. I didn't understand how such a brilliant guy could have been raised my someone like Michelle. Yes, I saw similarities. He was slightly posh, serious, and extremely intelligent. He was a pure perfectionist, but there was something in his eyes that shone, and he was funny. As much as he loved his mom, he understood why I wasn't comfortable around her. And he knew how overbearing she was. He already felt like a brother to me. He hadn't been there on the first day of school because he was visiting his father in Ireland.

"I missed you! But Ireland was the best! You've got to come with me next time. You'll love it." I smiled, anything to get me away from my dad and his new wife, I would accept. I had to admit, it's not that Michelle was that bad, I just could picture my dad with anyone but my mom. If she hadn't been in that accident, we could still be in London and we would still be a happy family. I could imagine how my dad had moved on so quickly. Yes, it was two years later, but the cuts of losing her were still so fresh in my heart, I couldn't understand how my dad had healed his so quickly. His scars didn't even appear as he would surprise her with flowers every now and then, just like he had with my mother. When my mom had first died, my dad had been crushed. I had to take on the mom roll, taking care of my younger sister, Amelia, and making dinner, cleaning, and staying on top of my studies. My dad lost his job, and we almost had everything taken away. Nothing changed until I yelled at him for hours one day. I had finally snapped. I was so physically and emotionally strained that I could keep being the parent in the family. At that time I was only 16 years old, for gods sake! He cleaned up his act, and got a job at a new law firm. And that's where he met Michelle. She was a co worker from the branch in Wolverhampton and she needed his help on a case. They fell into late nights, dinners, and a lot of time together working on the case. And then, I guess they just fell in love. And she took everything from me. My life in London, my childhood home, and worse, my dad's love for my own mother.

"Yoohooo! Hulloooo, Emma?" Mike was waving his hand in front of my face. I guess I had zoned out.

"Oh, sorry," I blushed, "I was just thinking about---"

"Your mom." He finished my sentence for me. It wasn't even a question, he just knew, "Well this will take your mind off of things! I know you don't know too many people here, so meet my friend, Jason!" I looked to the tall boy standing beside Mike. His dark eyes met mine, and a crooked smile fell on his face. He was cute. He wasn't like the other boys I had met yesterday. He was gorgeous, but he didn't know it. He had an athletic build, and a strong jawline.

"Hi." He said to me, shyly. I stuck out my hand and shook his, "I've head a lot about you." I looked to Mike. Did I even want to know what he had been saying about me? But he just put his hands in the air, like he was being arrested or something and shook his head, as if to say, "Nothing bad."  Just then, the hall filled with hushed whispers, and the crowd parted like the Red Sea. Jason and Mike moved out of the way, but I just stood there.

"Emma!' Louis threw his arm over my shoulder, "I believe we have maths together. Walk with me?" He pulled me away, and I looked back at Jason and Mike, throwing them an apologetic smile.

Mike's POV

What the hell was Emma doing with Louis Tomlinson? Letting him drape his arm over her like that? I knew that when Emma came she would catch the attention of those 5 assholes, but I thought that she would be able to fend them off. Looked like I was going to have to help her. She didn't exactly look comfortable for have his arm around her, but she didn't stop him. And that was enough to anger me. I loved Emily like a sister, and I kind of hoped to set her up with Jason. He was my best mate, and he would be good for her. Besides, Emma had never had a real boyfriend before. She'd been out on dates, and fooled around, but she wasn't exactly one to settle. But ever since her mom had died, she told me that she wanted to believe in real love, and was only going to be with someone if she thought something would come out of it. Nothing would ever move forward with Niall, Louis, Zayn, or Harry. Maybe Liam. He was a little bit kinder. But still not good enough for my new sister. Only Jason would do.

Louis POV

"Psstt! Emma!" I whispered from the corner of my mouth, trying to get her attention. She wasn't even taking notes. My guess was that she didn't need to. Niall had told me how smart she was, and I could just tell. She was like a closed book, this girl. She looked at me, and I slid the note across the desk towards her. She took it, raising her eyebrows towards me.

"Meet me at my parking spot. 101 at the beginning of lunch. I want to show you something. xx" She just looked at me and nodded, crumpling up the note and shoving it in her book bag so we wouldn't get in trouble. When the bell rang, and the teacher dismissed us, I looked at Emma's assignment. It was finished. She took it to the front of the class, handing it in a day early and took off, waving me a quick good bye. I looked down at my half finished assignment, dumbfounded.

Emma's POV

I walked into my next class, Advanced History with Mr Collins. Another bore of a class. It had been interesting last year when I had taken in, but now it was all old news. All of my classes were. I didn't understand why my dad wouldn't just let me go to Uni. I could have finished college last year. I sighed, looking for a seat. All the girls who were sitting alone, moved their bags onto the chairs beside them. Ouch. Too bad I didn't care. I spotted Jason and Mike and they both smiled and waved. I was about to step towards them when someone walked into the class. All of the girls lifted their book bags, smiling, clearly inviting the person behind me to sit with them. Their eyes were full of naive hope. I turned around to find Zayn smirking at me. Gosh, those eyes...

"Hey Em! Looks like we have another class together. Come sit with me!" He took my hand and pulled me towards what I assumed was his regular seat. Louis walked in. I had clearly taken his seat. He just huffed and sat down in the row behind us, next to a girl, who leaned towards him, batting her eyelashes. He took no notice of her. He leaned forward and I heard him hiss into Zayn's ear.

"I thought we agreed it was my week." My body stiffened. I had no idea what they were talking about, but for some reason, I felt like it was about me. I pretended I hadn't heard them, turning to wave at Mike again. We had 10 minutes of break before the class actually started, so I decided to go and talk to Mike and Jason for a bit.

"Why are you sitting with them?" Mike growled as soon as I had reached them. There was an extra emphasis on the word "them". I turned around to look at Zayn and Louis, who were both glaring at Mike and Jason.

"What's wrong with them? They were the first people to talk to me when I got here. Actually the only people who talked to me. Their quite nice. I like them." I said, defiantly to Mike. I didn't like it when people told me what do.

"Look all you need to know is that you shouldn't like them too much. Their bad news." He hissed out his words, gritting his teeth.

"Explain to me why their so bad, Mike." I wasn't going to let it go. He sighed, knowing that I would keep persisting.

"Their on the football (soccer) team, and we're on the rugby team. We don't get along. Their also the worlds biggest womanizers. They think their so good because their soccer champs and can sing. But their really not. Their just little twats."

I sighed. Mike was so set in his ways. I knew there was no use arguing with him. I had gotten my answer. I just nodded, standing up, about to make my way back to my seat, when I turned around again.

"Mike? You can't tell me what to do, you know that? I'll learn from my own mistakes. Maybe their not as bad as you say they are, but maybe they are. I'll be careful." And then I turned on my heel and walked back to me seat, and smiled at Zayn.

Louis' POV

It was finally lunch time. I went straight to my car and took out the guitar, running through the chords. When she finally emerged from the school, she saw me and made her way over to me. But she didn't look happy. As soon as she was close, I could see the tears in her eyes.

"Emma! What's wrong?" I placed my guitar back into the boot and pulled her into my arms. I had known this girl for a day and it already broke my heart to see her cry. I had to win her heart, I just had to. She was so precious. She just shook her head and cried into my chest. I watched as girls gave us weird looks while they passed by.  I saw the rest of the guys emerge from the school doors, giving me looks. I could tell they were jealous that I had her in my arms. And then Mike and Jason came out of the school. They looked angry. They were followed by the rest of the goon rugby team.

"Hey! What did you do to her? Making her cry already, Tommo?" Jason, pulled Emma away from me, pushing her into Mike's arms, and placing himself in between me and Emma. I heard Mike and Emma exchange hushed whispers. Clearly she was close to Mike. I felt jealous rage flowing through my veins. I still wasn't sure how Emma felt about me, but I for sure felt a great deal for her.

"I didn't do anything! We were just hugging! Let me see her!" I tried to push past Jason, but he was quite solid. Damn rugby players. I kept pushing, which made Jason mad. I heard Emma screaming for us to stop, and then all of a sudden I felt a fist connecting to my face, knocking me to the ground, and then everything went black.
