Everything Has a Happy Ending

Savannah was just a normal 14 year old girl living in Houston, Texas. But a shooting in her neighborhood one night can change everything. Her parents and older siblings died in the shooting. Her younger 4 year old sister, DJ, was seen taken away that night. Savannah wanted to do anything she could to get her back. She woke up the next morning with and soon becomes a part of a new family, who helps her find DJ. But Savannah thinks that her life has no meaning anymore.

20. Welcome to the Family

Savannah's POV

We arrived at the airport at about midday on Thursday. There was a group of fans waiting for the boys, like usual, but it wasn't as bad as the usual, Liam had told me. We went to Harry's house immediately, and everyone collapsed on the couch. We were all tired and exhausted. I followed Niall to the kitchen and sat on a stool. He took a bag of chips out of the cabinet and opened it, ignoring my presence. He saw me and waved, heading back to the living room.

"Don't you share your food?" I asked him as I followed him out.

"It's not even yours anyway," I pouted.

"Your point?"

I sighed and sat next to Louis, who was looking at something online with Harry.

"No, this one," he told Harry and pointed to the screen.

"Is it good?"

Louis nodded. "I went there a few years ago, it was really nice."

"What are you doing?"

Louis turned to face me. "We're going skiing!" He cheered.

"Really?" My face lit up.

"Yup. For four days. Up in the mountains. Going to be so much fun!"

"When do we go?"

"Monday through Thursday. You know how to ski?"

I raised my eyebrows at him. "Are you kidding, we would go every Spring Break."

"So, we have a little Ms. Pro here?" he smirked.

I shook my head. "No, not really."

"Does DJ ski?"

I shook my head. "We were going to put her in ski school this year when we would've gone."

"Eh, we'll teach her." He smiled.

"Where did she go anyway?" It was now that I realized it was only me, Niall, Harry, and Louis in the living room.

"Liam and Zayn are putting her to bed.

"Do you snowboard?" Harry turned to face me.

"I'd love to learn someday."

He smiled, nodding his head. "We're going to have the best time ever. Just wait."

"I'm waiting!" I stood up and headed to the kitchen, pouring myself a cup of water. I could hear Harry and Louis laughing, and I walked up behind them and slapped them both on the head.

Sure enough, a few days later the seven of us were all on snow-covered mountain in some ski resort. On Monday, Harry, Louis, and I all went skiing high up in the mountains while the other three stayed with DJ, teaching her how to ski. The mountains weren't crowded at all, which meant shorter lines on the chair lifts. We spent our time on the chairlifts singing our hearts out like maniacs, getting some looks from the people there. And the other half of the time we spent racing down the slopes.

"Have you ever went down a black?" Harry asked me. We were halfway up the same chairlift for the millionth time. Stubborn Louis was determined to beat Harry on a particular slope and wouldn't give up.

I nodded and kicked the snow off my skis. "Yeah, a couple times."

"We should go down one, isn't there one at the top of this lift?"

"Not until I beat you." Louis pointed his poles at Harry.

"But we went it down so many times. It got so boring," I pouted.

"Yeah, Louis. You just got to accept the fact that I'm a better skier than you."

"Ugh fine. Whatever, let's go on a black." Louis finally gave in.

We went down the black, but sneaky Harry led us down to a hard one. It took time for me to get down, but thankfully I survived it. What? It was steep and really bumpy. And the snow was pretty icy and hard.

The next few days were interesting. We would spend the afternoons making snowmen, going tubing, and stuff like that. We were all tired and exhausted by the time we got back to the hotel, that we all could barely shower before sleeping. Everyday the boys would switch off on who went skiing with me, and who taught DJ. I decided to help them teach DJ, and I have to say, they were pretty good at teaching her. Or, DJ is just a natural pro at skiing. Whichever, DJ is getting the hang of it.

Early Thursday morning, Zayn and I went to change out my skis for a snowboard. To be honest, I was nervous. Zayn told me not to worry; it's practically the same thing as skateboarding, but on snow. I've skated before, but became a pro on rip-sticking.

Louis and Liam were helping DJ with her pizzas and fries, while Harry, Niall, and Zayn were teaching me how to snowboard. Snowboarding. Is. So. Much. Fun. Honestly, as terrible as I was, it was a blast. But hey, Zayn said I improved a lot by the end of one day.

We got back to the hotel and quickly showered before heading out to eat. We walked around the small town, looking for a small restaurant. I was surprised; there was no paparazzi. Not that I'm complaining.

"I'm actually sad. Skiing is fun." Harry pouted as we crossed the street.

"Can we go again? Tomorrow?" DJ asked him and tightened her grip on my back.

"DJ, you’re a growing woman." I grunted and put her down as soon as we reached the sidewalk. She stuck out her tongue and pulled on Niall's hand, climbing on his back.

"What about that one?" Zayn pointed to a small Italian restaurant in the corner of the street.

We all nodded and walked in the restaurant which smelled like Italy.

"How many?" the waitress asked Liam.

"Seven please."

She took a few menus and lead us to the back of the restaurant. "What would you like to drink?" She asked as we settled in the booth and handed us menus.

"I'll take a Coke, too."

"I'll bring them shortly." She smiled sweetly and left us alone with our menus and DJ's stories.

Week and a half later

"Good morning." I rub my eyes and pull out a chair on the kitchen table. Harry was already up and awake making pancakes.

"Good morning to you sleepy head." Harry flipped the pancake and leaned on the counter.

"DJ isn't up yet?"

He shook his head. "Nope."

"What time is it?"

"8:30." He turned off the oven and brought the plate of pancakes to the table. I stood up and walked over to the fridge, getting the milk and syrup out. "Strange. She always gets up bright and early." I said as I poured myself a glass of milk and served myself a pancake.

"Savannah?" DJ comes down the stairs and tapped me on the shoulder. She looked extremely tired with her red eyes and messy hair.

"DJ? Are you okay?" I set my fork down and sat her on my lap. She shook her head and rubbed her eyes. "I don't feel good."

"You're sick?" I touch her forehead with the back of my hand. "You're hot."

"Do you want me to get the thermometer?" Harry asked me. I nodded and got DJ a glass of water.

"Here, let's get you to bed." I grabbed her hand and took her to her room, putting her back to bed. I gave her the glass of water and laid a wet towel on her forehead.

"Here's the thermometer." Harry walked in. DJ put the stick in her mouth and we waited the minute. It started to beep and DJ took it out of her mouth and handed it to Harry.

"Am I sick?"

He nodded. "Yeah, you got a fever. But don't worry, it's not that bad. Just a little fever is all."

"Oh." She threw the covers over her head and kicked under the covers. "I don't wanna be sick!"

Harry and I started laughing and he pulled the covers off her head.

She frowned. "I wanted to go to the X-Factor with you. Now I can't, right?"

"When do we leave?" I asked Harry.

"But I want to meet Fifth Harmony."

"Don't worry I'll take you another day to meet them." Harry promised her.

DJ smiled. "Really? You promise?"

Harry nodded. "Promise is a promise! I'll call mum to see if she can take care of you while we're gone."

We followed the security out of the LA airport filled with fangirls screaming and trying to get to the boys. We hurried in the car and closed it behind us, the driver taking us to the hotel.

"How do you deal with all this?" I asked Zayn.

"You just get used to it. But here in LA is the worst."

"Figures." I shrugged.

We arrived to the X-Factor while Fifth Harmony was rehearsing on stage. Lou and I found a seat in the audience while the boys snuck up behind Simon. Simon shooed the boys away, so he could pay attention to the girls.

"He doesn't like me anymore!" Harry pouted and sat next to me.

"Well excuse me if he needs to pay attention to them right now." Lou told him without looking up from her phone.

Harry just responded with a glare.

When Fifth Harmony finished their performance, Simon gave them their feedback before turning his attention to the boys.

"Hello boys, Lou."

He turned his attention to me. "You must be Savannah, from what the boys have told me." He smiled.

I nodded. "Yeah. I'm Savannah. It's so nice to meet you."

"More than happy to meet you to. Hopefully the boys have been behaving?" He eyed the boys.

I shrugged. "Eh, not really."

"She's lying. We've behaved better than you can imagine Uncle Si." Louis glared at me before Simon could respond.

Simon chuckled. "I think I'll believe Savannah this time."

I smiled a Louis before walking away and finding the girls. I dialed up Mummy Anne and talked to DJ.

"Hi Savannah! Did you meet Fifth Harmony?"

"Slow down DJ, I'm finding them now." I laughed.

"Hey, where are you going?" I turned around and saw Niall following me.

"I'm finding Fifth Harmony."

"Is that Niall?" DJ said on the other end of the line.

"Is he finding them too?"

Niall led me back stage and he asked a worker where they were. The lady pointed to the back and we followed her lead.

"Hurry go!" DJ screamed in the phone.

Niall chuckled and walked up Camila and Ally.

"Hi girls! Now if you don't mind, talk to this four-year-old on the phone, she's dying to meet you and she's about to chop my head off." Niall handed the phone to Camila by surprise before she could say anything and after putting it on speaker.

"Hi! What's your name?" Camila said to the phone.

"Are you Camila?!" DJ shrieked, and I could imagine her jumping around. It took everything in me not to laugh.

"Yeah! I'm Camila, and Ally's right next to me! What's your name?"

"Hi Ally! Oh, and my name is DJ."

"Hey DJ! How are you?"

"Is Niall and Savannah tricking me or are you really Ally and Camila?" DJ finally calmed down and spoke like a normal person.

"She's smart for her age." Niall told me. I shrugged. "Yeah, I guess so."
"Don't worry DJ, I'm Camila." Camila laughed.

The day after the X Factor Finale, we flew home immediately, Louis and I picking up DJ before heading over to his family to celebrate Christmas.

"Are your sisters my age?" DJ asked him in the car.

"Well," he said. "Daisy and Phoebe are both eight. They're the youngest. Then there's Fizzy, who's twelve. Then there's Lottie who's fourteen."

"Hey that’s Savannah's age!" she said before singing her favorite Christmas songs with the radio.

"Is she always like this?" Louis asked me.

I nodded. "She's never quiet. And when Christmas comes around, it's double the trouble."

"So she's just like me!"

I gave him a weird look. "Yeah, just like you."

Louis smiled proudly and kept his focus on the road. "You know, they're excited to meet you."

"My sisters. And if Mum didn't tell you in New York, she's excited about having two more daughters."

I smiled. "I'm excited to meet them too. Is Eleanor going to be there?"

"Yup. She's already there with her Mum I think."

"How many more hours?" DJ asked.

"Not too far, about fifteen minutes." Louis said before his phone started ringing.

"Hello? - Yeah, ten or fifteen minutes. - See ya. Yes, they came with me. - I'm dead serious Lottie they're sitting inches away from me. - Yeah, they're excited to meet you. - Yeah, what does she need? - How many? - Be right there."

He hung up and took a left turn. "Quick stop to the grocery store. Mum's missing flour!"

Half an hour later Louis parked in front of his house and jumped out of the car. DJ and I followed him to the front door. He didn't dingdong, he unlocked it and walked in. "I’m home!" he yelled loudly for the whole neighborhood to hear.

"Louis!" One of the twins ran to him and attacked him with a hug.

"Hey Phoebe!" he hugged his sister back. "How are ya?"

"I'm good." she smiled.
Mummy Jay walked out of the kitchen wearing an apron. "Hi Louis." She hugged him before hugging DJ and me.

"How are you two?"

"We're good."

"Are you feeling better?" She asked DJ. She nodded. "Yeah, I am. Thank you."

"I'm Phoebe. Welcome to the family!" the twin walked up to us and smiled. "I'm DJ and this is Savannah." DJ answered before I could think. Wow, she is definitely excited.

Louis' other sisters came downstairs, and Louis and Jay introduced us to them, and vice versa.

Two days later and it was Christmas Eve, also known and celebrated as Louis' birthday in the Tomlinson household. Mummy Jay was preparing dinner with Eleanor's help while everyone else was seated in the living room. Louis, Dan, the girls, and I were all spread out in the living room, with Christmas music and classic Christmas shows playing in the background. Everyone was having an amazing time. Everyone. And I enjoyed it, I really did. No, it wasn't like the usual Christmas Eve with my family, but it felt like any other Christmas.

"Hey hey hey!" Lottie plopped on the couch next to me smiling. I returned the smile. "Hey!"

"Are you okay? You seem a bit down."

I shook my head and shrugged. "I'm just thinking. I'm fine, really."

"You sure?"

I nodded. "Positive."

"You know it's going to be fun having you as a sister."

"You don't say." I laughed.

"So Louis tells me about this Sam of yours?" Lottie lowered her voice down so only the two of us could hear.
"What?!" I said a bit too loud and sat up straight. "What else did he tell you?"

"Well he said that you have a boyfriend Sam? Then he told me he wasn't your boyfriend. I don’t know he confuses me. So, are you going to tell me about this Sam?"

I leaned against the couch and glared at Louis. Louis got my stare and gave me a weird look.

"You're going to get it. Watch out." I mouthed to him before turning my attention back to Lottie.

"Oh my gosh! We can go on double dates! You, me, Mart-"

"Lottie! He's not my boyfriend!" I threw the pillow at her.

"We're just friends right now."

"Does he like you."

"Do you like him?"

I paused before answering. "Lottie," I pouted.

"So that means you do like him."

"Lottie." I warned her.

"Savannah. Just promise me one thing."

I sighed. "What?"

"When he's old enough to move here, get married. Deal? Okay. Perfect."

My mouth formed an 'O'. Lottie just smiled and crossed her arms, satisfied with herself.

"I hate you so much, you know?"

"Oh don't worry, I know you love me." Lottie laughed.

"Savannah? Are you still awake?" DJ nudged my shoulder. It was late at night; passed midnight. The house was quiet and everyone had gone to bed.

"Yeah. Is everything okay?" I moved over for her to give her space. She climbed in and sat crisscrossed in front of me.

"Do you think they're watching us? In Heaven?" she asked me. I got up and sat in front of her, so she faced me.

"I know they're watching us DJ. Each and every day."

"Do they celebrate Christmas in Heaven? Do they sing Christmas songs and all that?"

"I bet they do."

"And Christmas shopping? And presents?"

"I would say they do that."

DJ stayed quiet for a minute. "I miss them Savannah."

"I miss them too DJ. I miss them too." I bring her closer and hug her.

"Do you think they're sad that we have a new family now?" she whispered.

I laughed. "No. I think they're happy. Happy that we have a new one. But we'll always be a family. Always. One day, we'll go to Heaven and join them. And be together again."

"We have a big family now." she encountered.

"Yeah, I know we do. We have a big family now."

"Are you happy?"

I smiled. "Yes, I'm really happy."

DJ smiled and hugged me. "I'm happy too. I love our new big family."

I smiled and kissed the top of her head. "Me too." I said. And I meant it.
