She woke up the next morning with and soon becomes a part of a new family, who helps her find DJ. But Savannah thinks that her life has no meaning anymore.

5. Best Friends

Savannah's POV

Eleanor helped me get in the car. The whole way home I stayed silent. I fiddled with my hands and stared at my lap. We got back to the hotel, and I followed them to their room. Eleanor told me we could go shopping if I wasn’t in the mood, but I wasn’t. She told me that I should go freshen up a bit and she'll give me some of her clothes. I shrugged. I didn't really feel like doing anything, eating anything, or talking to anyone. Louis opened the door, and he let me go in first. I looked in the room to see Harry watching some TV show, Niall eating a Subway sandwich, and Liam on his laptop and phone. They all looked at me as I stepped in. I gave them a small smile.

"Hey love." Harry turned off the TV and moved over to make room for me. I leaned my crutches against the wall and hopped over the couch.

"What's your name?" Liam looked up from his laptop. I was fiddling with my hands and staring at my lap, just like what I did in the car. I slowly looked up and whispered, "Savannah. Savannah Johns."

"That's a pretty name." Niall smiled as he continue to eat his sandwich. I smiled back as a thank you and stared at my lap again. I could sense Harry staring at me. If he was staring at me at a different time, I would probably not be acting the way I was. I would've freaked out and scared the heck out of him. But now, it was kind of awkward.. I didn’t know what to do. I just wanted to go sit in a corner and be alone. The boys asked if they could sign my cast, I smiled and nodded. Niall found a sharpie in the drawer, and they started signing, one by one.

"Savannah." Eleanor motioned me to follow her. She handed me my crutches and I got up. I look around the hotel room, and I have to say its bigger than I thought it would be. We went to a room I supposed was her room, and she brought out her suitcase. She took out a pear of sweat pants and an oversized t-shirt.

"It's okay Eleanor. I can stay like this."

"No it's okay. Take these. You can take a shower if you'd like." she was the sweetest person I have ever met. She went to get me a towel and all that stuff.

"What about my cast?"

She stopped for a minute to think. We figured out a way, and I went in and took a shower. I scrubbed all the dirt of my skin and hair. Gosh, I don't think I've ever felt cleaner in my life. I hopped out of the restroom and grabbed my crutches. I took a quick glance at the nightstand, and saw my phone. How did my phone get here? I really did have it with me? I walked up to it and held it in my hand. To no surprise, it had to nice clean cracks across the screen. I saw a charger next to it and plugged it in. I waited a few minutes until it finally turned on. I tried to ignore my lock screen, which was the picture me and Alyssa took last night. I unlocked it and realized I had too many miscalls and texts from Kylee and Mary and their parents. I clicked the Messages app.

SAVANNAH! Are you okay?! Call us ASAP! We're worried!! filled up my screen. I took a big breath and decided to text them  back.

Right when I sent it, Kylee texted me back. I took a big breathe and texted her to come to the hotel. I needed to talk to someone that I know- that I actually know personally. I walked out of the room and opened the door of the hotel room.

"Where are you going?" Harry walked up to me.

"My friend is on her way. Don't worry I'll just be outside the door."

Harry nodded and closed the door behind me.

I leaned against the wall and looked at my other messages. Many were from my other friends from school. I ignored all of them until I got to Sam. My crush since 7th grade. Sam texted me. I gave a small smile and checked it.

Hey Savannah I was wondering if you were okay. Text me back as soon as you get this! Everyone is worried. - Sam

I didn't feel like texting him back this yet, but I'll text him eventually.

"SAVANNAH!" I turn to see my two best friends running towards me. I try to walk on bad leg, but the pain stabbed me, so I just waited for them to come. They came over and hugged me tight.

"Oh my gosh Savannah we were worried sick." all three of us had tears in our eyes. I wiped the tears away from my eyes and nodded.

"Is everyone okay? How's your leg?" Kylee asked. They absolutely had no clue.

I shook my head and cried on Kylee's shoulder. Mary rubbed my back.

"Savannah…" Mary choked out.

"I- My-" I couldn't get anything out. Kylee just hugged me again and I cried and cried for what felt like forever. Kylee and Mary motioned for me to sit down. I leaned against the wall and wiped the tears away.

"Mom, Daddy, and Alyssa." was all I could choke out. "Josh… DJ."

Mary put her hand over her mouth. Kylee just stared at me, waiting for what I was going to say next.

"Mom, Daddy and Alyssa didn't make it." I finally said after a few minutes.

"Oh no." Mary whispered and put her head in her hands. Kylee just stared at me.

"Josh.. He's in the hospital, but the doctor told me." I wiped the tears that were still coming down my face. "the doctor told me that he's lucky to live by the end of this week."

They stayed silent.

"I visited him today at the hospital, and I can go back tomorrow, but I don't think he's going to make it. He looked terrible. I, it-" I shook my head. "I don't know guys. I don't know."

"What about DJ?" Kylee whispered, still staring at me.

I didn't answer her for another few minutes.

"Kylee I don’t know. Daddy told me to watch her and make sure she stays with  me, but I don't know. she was there for one second and then she was gone. I lost her Kylee I lost her. It's all my fault. And she's just four years old."

Kylee wrapped her arms around me. "It's going to be okay Savannah."

"What happened to your leg?"

"I tripped and broke my ankle. No big deal."

We stayed quiet for another few minutes.

"Who are you staying with?" Mary asked me.

I wiped the tears and told myself not to cry. I smiled a bit.

"Savannah, who is it?"

"It's kinda a they."

"Do I know them by any chance? We're in a hotel and apparently they don't live…" Kylee stopped midsentence. "Wait. I know this might sound like the stupidest thing ever but… never mind. I'm mentally retarded."

I mentally laughed so hard. I knew where she was going with her sentence, and she was right. Mary stood up and helped me up. I grabbed my crutches and slowly opened the door.

"Stay here for a minute." they nodded and I closed the door behind them.

Niall and Zayn walked out of the kitchen, followed by the rest.

I looked at them and smiled, probably the first time they saw me smile.

"I warn you guys." They nodded even though they didn’t have a clue what I meant. But Liam understood and chuckled a bit. I slowly opened the door, and they walked in.

"Why did you want us to sta-" Mary stopped in midsentence and stared with wide eyes at the five boys and one girl in front of her.

"So the Internet does say the truth!" she whispered to me and Kylee. I nodded.

"Thank you for taking care of Savannah." Kylee smiled at them. Mary nodded.

"But can I please have a hug?" Kylee finished. I could tell by the way she said it she wanted to scream and let the whole world know.

"Horan hug!" Niall spread out his arms and went to hug my best friends.

Harry and Liam walked up to me. "We're so sorry Savannah, Louis and Zayn told us about what happened."

"Thank you." I whispered, repeating myself not to cry, and that everything is going to be alright.

"But considering your PJ's, don't you want a hug too?"

I laughed and hugged them.

The boys left me, Mary, and Kylee alone in the TV room.

"So, are you going to stay with them?"

I shrugged. "I don't know. They said I could and that it was really no problem. But I mean.. I don't know. Probably till the end of the week until everything is settled down. A lawyer is helping Josh and I. And they're looking for DJ. But every time I think of her I freak out. What if they don't find her? It would be all my fault!"

"No it won't, Savannah."

I nodded. "Yeah, because I was supposed to watch her, and I didn't. I lost her."

"Savannah." I looked up at Mary.

"Everything's going to be okay. You have me and Kylee. We're here for you whenever you need us."

I smiled. "I love you guys. You're the bestest friends anyone could ever ask you. I'm not joking."

"Stop it, you're going to make me cry again." Kylee wiped the tears away.

I hugged both of them.

"But seriously, Savannah, ONE DIRECTION!" Kylee screamed in my face. "How on earth did you end up with them?!"

Mary and I laughed. I shrugged. "Everything happens for a reason I guess." Then I looked on the ground. Everything does happen for a reason. Then why did my parents and sister die? Why is my family now broken?

Half an hour later, Mary's mom picked up Mary and Kylee. She, Kylee's mom, and my mom were really close. I told her what happened and she nodded. She told me that they'll meet us at the hospital tomorrow.

"Bye guys."

I closed the door behind them.

"Hey, we ordered Chinese food. Is that okay for you?" Niall sat on the couch and turned on the TV.

I shrugged. "I'm not that hungry."

Niall eyed me. "You didn't have lunch Savannah. You need to eat."

"Yeah, Chinese is fine."

"You sure? I can order something you like."
"No, I actually like Chinese food." I smiled and plopped on the couch next to him. While we were eating, Paul came in. He talked to me for a little while, assuring me that they have no problem with me staying with them till everything is settled out.

They talked me into watching a movie, and since I have nothing better to do, I agreed. We were on our second movie. I glanced at the clock. It was past 12. I didn't pay attention to the movie at all; I just stared at the wall, not thinking about anything. The phone rang and I was snapped back into reality. Louis went to go answer it. He listened most of the time, and his face expressed it wasn't good news. He put the phone back, and looked at me.

"Who is it?" I whispered. As much as I wanted to know, I didn't. I didn't want to know who it was, having a slight feeling knowing who it was.

"It's the hospital."
