Can't Buy Me Love

1. The Perfect Candidate

Harry's POV

"Harry, you're becoming known as a womanizer now. This needs to stop. It's setting a bad reputation for you and One Direction."

I take a seat in the first chair I see, trying to ignore our manager, Paul. I was not good with hearing all this gossip about me and the lads. Evidently, if you get a couple of girlfriends and break up with them, you're considered a heartbreaker now.

Paul continues to talk to me, rambling something about girls and their feelings. I look over at Niall, Liam, Zayn, and Louis who are all mocking Paul behind his back. Amused by their facial expressions, I laugh.

"Harry! Are you even listening to me?" Paul asks, waving his over- sized hand in my face.

"Calm down Paul," I cross my arms and lean back. "I'm listening."

Paul puts his hands on his face in irritation. "As I was saying, we need to do something about this whole, 'taking advantage of women' thing."

"Like what? Hire a permanent girlfriend for me?" I ask sarcastically, adding a little finger quote.

Paul's face lights up. "That's a wonderful idea Harry. Finally you help with something!"

"Woah Paul, I was only joking," I laugh, surprised by his comment.

"Well my boy, we are going to go through with it," Paul says pulling me out of my chair and hugging me tightly.

My eyes wander to Niall, Liam, Louis, and Zayn sitting on the couch. They all have huge smirks on their faces. I can tell they're on the verge of laughing.

"What do you think  boys?" Paul asks them, finally releasing his death grip on me.

"We think it's a marvelous idea," Louis says, masking his hilarity.

"Wonderful, wonderful," Paul pats my back, causing me to tense up.

"Maybe you should pay her to stay," Niall suggests. "Since every girl seems to leave Harry."

"Good thinking Niall," Paul says. "The search starts now."

Paul, with his head held high and a skip in his step, leaves the room. I let a sigh of relief escape me. Snorts of laughter leave the boys sitting on the couch.

"Laugh it up," I say, annoyed that they find my problems amusing.

"Sorry Harry, it's just so funny," Liam says in between fits of laughter.

"Whatever," I say and plop back into my seat.

Paul's POV

Feeling satisfied about the idea we just came up with, I decide to go out and treat myself to some ice cream. Humming a song, I get into my car and drive to the ice cream parlor down the street. They have the best ice cream.

"What can I get you?" The clerk asks, a woman around my age.

"I'll take Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough in a bowl, thanks," I order.

I watch as the woman whose name tag reads, Louise, scoops out my ice cream.

"That'll be two pounds sir," she says, handing me my sweet treat.

I give her my money and take the ice cream. I take a seat at one of the tables and dig in. My first bite is perfection. My ice cream is half gone when a girl walks in. She has blonde hair from what I can see. She looks young, around sixteen or seventeen. She's not too skinny and not too big, curvy, as some would say. A thought pops into my head, she's perfect for Harry.

She orders some chocolate ice cream and takes a seat at the table in front of mine. I watch her for a second as she daintily eats her ice cream.

I finish my ice cream and and walk up to the girl. I pull out my card and give it to her. She takes it nervously. I see her read it over and smile.

"You're One Direction's manager, aren't you?" She asks.

"Yes I am. Are you a fan?"

"A little," she says.

I laugh. "Would you mind if I asked you a couple of questions? You know, like an interview?"

"Sure, I don't mind," she smiles. Her teeth are perfectly straight, they just need a little whitening.

I take the seat in front of her. "What's your name miss?"

"I'm Brooke Wesley," she says.

Perfect name.

"Nice to meet you Brooke. How old are you?"

"I'm sixteen."

Nice age difference.

I smile, finding that this interview is going well.

"May I ask you a question?" She asks, sliding her bowl to the side.

"Sure, ask away," I smile, trying to act friendly.

"Why are you asking me these questions?"

"Well, it's a long story," I sigh.

"I've got all the time in the world."

I explain the situation to her.

"So you thought I would be a good candidate?" She asks me, smiling widely.

"The perfect candidate," I correct her. "Actually, you could be the one I choose if the rest of the interview goes well."

"Well, continue then please."

"What are some of your favorite things to do," I ask, pulling out a pen and a piece of paper.

"I like to read and watch movies. I usually like to do lots of things. I'm happy all of the time," she says, getting more comfortable about answering the questions.

I can work with that.

"Wonderful. That's all for now," I finish writing some things down. "I'll call you a little later to let you know if you got the job."

She gets up as I do. "Thanks so much. I'll be waiting by the phone," she shakes my hand.

I nod. "Goodbye Brooke, or should I say, the future, Mrs. Styles," I laugh.

She chuckles and I wave goodbye. With a smile on my face, I drive back to my office so I can tell the boys.

"Good news boys!" I yell when I walk in.

"What is it?" Zayn asks.

"I believe I have found the perfect girl to play Harry's girlfriend," I pull out my notepad and show them the notes I took. "Her name is Brooke Wesley. And I must say, she is rather easy on the eyes."

Harry sighs and pushes the notepad away. "When do we get to meet her?"

"Soon, I just have to give her a make over and dress her up a bit," I explain.

"I'm excited to meet her," Niall says. ""She seems nice."

"She was very polite. You lads will get along with her well."

I pick up my phone and dial her number.

"Do you lads want to hear?" I ask them.

They all nod their heads vigorously. I put my phone on speaker.

"Hello?" Brooke answers.

"Brooke, this is Paul."

"Oh, hello Paul," she says sweetly.

"I'm calling to tell you that you've got the job!" I excitedly say.

"Really? That's wonderful. I can't wait. When do I start?" She asks.

"Well, we need to give you a makeover first then you can meet the boys."

"When will we do that?"

"Tomorrow, I'll pick you up," I offer.

"Ok, sounds great," she gives me her address.

"See you tomorrow, Brooke."

"Bye! Tell Harry I said hi," she hangs up the phone. I look at Harry and he half grins. There is a glimmer of hope in there somewhere.

"So lads? What do you think?" I ask, putting my phone back in my pocket feeling satisfied.

"I can't wait to meet her!" Louis says.

"Me either," Harry says, surprisingly.

I give him a shocked look.

"What? Who wouldn't be excited to meet their hired girlfriend?" Harry laughs.

I roll my eyes. "Tomorrow, after Brooke is all fixed up, you lads can meet her." I see them fidget in excitement.

"I guess we will see you tomorrow then," Liam says as they get up to leave.

I nod. "Goodbye boys."

They wave goodbye and I close the door behind them.
