Summer Love

[Based on The Notebook] It was summer and Leslie's family is staying at a small town near a river. Her family was rich, meaning they stayed at a huge house and she had nice clothes. Her friends were snobby and stuck up. She, on the other hand, wasn't as stuck up. Harry lives in the town. They both meet at the town's carnival where he falls for her. He keeps trying and trying to get her to go on a date with him until she says yes. When she does, they both fall in love. But what happens when Leslie has to leave for school? Will they stay together, or just break?

I took a strong grip to his hand, trying to pull him up the cliff. “Don’t fall. Please promise me you won’t fall,” I cried.

“I can’t make that promise,” he muttered, a tear falling down his cheek.

I feel my eyes tearing up for the third time, but I let them fall this time. “Don’t die,” I whispered before I pulled on his arm, seeing if it would work. Nope. It made it worse. He almost fell down, his foot slipping on one of the loose rocks on the cliff. He made a small high-pitched scream and grabbed onto my arm with his other hand.

“Just pull me up. You can do it.”

I pulled his arm, making him slowly climb up the cliff. I sighed in relief and kept pulling. He finally made it up and quickly stood up, dusting himself off.

“Oh my god,” I hugged him tightly, making him take a small step back.

“Whoa, be careful. There’s a cliff right behind me. Do you want me to die?” Harry snaps at me with a smirk on his face.

“Stop making fun of this moment, Harold!” I snap. “You could’ve died. This isn’t something you make fun of.”

His smirk leaves his face and a frown replaces it. “Sorry, lov-“

“Oh, don’t you ‘love’ me!” I shout in his face, letting go of   him. “You got us into this mess. First you tell the boys we’re going on a walk, then you say they could come, then now you decide to go in some random direction without     them. Now, we’re here, stuck in the middle of nowhere.  Plus, you almost die because you were being an idiot!”

“Calm down!” Harry hisses, grabbing onto my wrist. “You said those five words that made me feel like you trusted me. But now I’m not sure if I should feel that way.”

“And what were those five words, Harry?”

I’ll go if you go,” he said calmly. Letting go of my wrist aggressively, he scoffed before walking to the small stream near us. “You trusted me, Leslie. What happened?”

“You being your idiot self happened,” I snapped at him, still at the same place I was before he left. “Why are we even together? We don’t work. I should’ve said no.”

What are you talking about?” he shouts as he quickly walks up to me. “We do work. It’s just these stupid little things that you freak out about that make us seem like a bad couple. We fight, Leslie. It’s what we do.”

“I don’t care! I know we fight and that’s what’s tearing us apart, Harry. It’s not me. It’s you.”

Those words seem to hurt him. It was suppose to. Some tears flood into his eyes. He shakes his head while biting his lip. “Whatever. Maybe you’re right. We don’t work,” he says, his voice cracking. He starts walking down the trail. Picking up a small stick, he groans, throwing it at a bird that flies away as the stick goes flying at it.

“Harry, come back here!” I shout, beginning to cry.

He just keeps walking. “Get over me while you can, Leslie. Cause when you don’t have the time, it’ll be harder,” he shouts while picking up a rock to throw at a tree.

As he walks into the fog, I start running to where he was. I look around, screaming his name. I stop searching and fall to the ground, sobbing quietly. “Don’t leave me,” I whisper before hiding my face in my knees.
