That Brunette And Me

Amelia just moved to Britain from a small town, after having a terrible relationship with a past boyfriend. She meets superstar Liam Payne, but can she get over heartbreak, the wrath of Directioners, and being in fame? Or will she break under the pressure?

12. Work Hard, Party Harder

I made it to football tryouts just in the nick of time. Of course I had no cleats or shin guards, so I had to borrow some. I got sweaty, dirty, and played my absolute best. I excelled at my usual positions, which was forward and defense, along with having tons of fun and meeting new people.

I met Beatrice, who preferred Beezus or Bee, and her younger sister Ramona, which apparently is because their parents loved the book. They were both beautiful, blonde, olive skinned girls, and very tall, which made them amazing goalies. I also met Sable, a beautiful Latino girl who was surprisingly shorter than I. She was an excellent defense player.  There was of course, a ton of other girls, like Rachel, Dana, Yvonne, and Ginny, but I was closest with those three girls.

Finally it was time for Coach Mandy to announce the players who made it on to varsity, the players who made it on to JV, and the ones not coming back. My heart was pounding, but I was pretty sure I would make it on at least JV. Coach Mandy began to call out the names of the people on varsity. I heard Beezus, then Sable, then Ramona, and clapped for all the names called. Then I heard my name called. I felt a flood of relief wash over me, and my heartbeat slowed down.

I heard cheering, clapping and cat calls coming from somewhere behind me. I swiveled around to see Elle and the boys wildly cheering and yelling on the bleachers. Bear also seemed to be cheering for me, as he was barking. Or he just wanted to make as much noise as everyone else. I waved and grinned back, and then turned back to see who else made it on varsity and JV.

Suddenly, I had a feeling that someone was staring at me. I turned around to find fierce blue eyes burning holes in the back of my head. They belonged to a blonde beauty, who's name I was pretty sure was Savannah. She rolled her eyes and looked away, her little nose turned up. The girl next to her, who seemed to be a friend of hers, snorted and turned her plump nose up as well. I think her name was Jen. Savannah was on varsity, and Jen was on JV, being one of the last called. I turned back, utterly confused.

"Alright, girls! If your name was NOT called, do NOT come back tomorrow! HOWEVER, if you had your name CALLED, please come to practice from 5-6, on Thursdays and Sunday nights! If you made it on varsity, I am your coach! If JV, your coach is Coach Gladys, who WILL be here tomorrow! Now go home!"

I turned and walked to Elle and the boys.

"AAAH! I KNEW YOU WOULD MAKE IT GURLLL!" Elle said, opening her arms for a hug, but changing her mind as I got closer. "Ew, you smell!" I laughed and lunged at her, grasping her in a bear hug. "Shit!" She screamed, cussing like a sailor. She cussed, swore, and yelled like that constantly.

"Naughty language!" Liam scolded Elle, wagging his finger and tutting.

"Ah, Liam. An innocent boy you are, eh?" Louis said, wrapping his long arm around Liam's shoulders, who in turn shook it off. Harry, however, took this as an opportunity to 'properly introduce' himself.

"Harold Edward Styles, Miss Elle!" He piped up, receiving a death glare from Niall. I giggled to myself, as Zayn shook his head at Harry's failed attempt to impress Elle.

"Now it's time for a party! Our place, right now!" screamed Elle, running in her Miu Miu pumps with her hands raised in the air. She complimented the car, as Harry made a masculine "Thank you." and continued to the car. He wasn't driving today, it seemed.

I climbed in the front seat next to the chauffeur. Louis' shoulders hunched in defeat, as he had been trying to beat me there. Liam sat behind me, grinning quietly again. I smiled back.

"You guys can start the party, but I'm going to take a needed shower." I said, turning to speak to them in the backseat. Elle giggled while the rest of the boy's laughed insanely, Niall's signature laugh rising above the others.

"I don't smell THAT bad, do I?" I said, frowning. Liam got ready to speak, but was interrupted by Elle, yelling a big fat "YES"

"Whatever Elle! Coming from you! Remember..." I was cut off by Elle giving me the finger and saying "We don't need to reminiscence from the past, dear Ami!"

We pulled up to the apartment building that me and Elle now shared. We ran up the stairs as I turned the key in the car. I got everyone settled and put Bear in her cage. I got some clothes and a towel and yelled, "I'm getting in the shower, so if you need to use the restroom, too bad!" I closed the door and got in the steaming shower. I rinsed the mud caked in my hair and scrubbed it out from under my fingernails. I washed my hair as fast as I could. I hopped out and put on the clothes. I blow dried my hair and put on a little makeup, and was out in no time. There was music pumping out of my iHome, obviously coming from Elle's iPhone.

"YEAH, AMI'S JOINED THE PARTAY!" Elle screamed over the pounding music. I could see people from neighboring apartments eating food that cam from, well, I had no clue quite honestly.

"Hey babe." A deep voice whispered in my ear. Liam.

"Hey." I faced him, his large brown eyes crinkled in a smile. "How's the party so far?"

"This is great! So low-key, better than any party Haz has put on." he replied, laughing as Harry gasped and thumped Liam on the head. I laughed and began to ask where Elle was, but found her on the couch talking to Niall.

"Aw!" I whispered. It was too cute, Niall looking adoringly at Elle as she just seemed wrapped up in what she was saying. She didn't even notice his eyes locked on her face.

"What?" Hazza said, glancing to where I was looking as I grinned stupidly.

"Ah, Nialler has a friend! How silly," Louis said, bounding up to Harry. "Also, Amelia dear, do you mind if Eleanor comes by?" He smiled at the mention of her name.

"Of course not! She's welcome anytime." I replied. Eleanor was going to be quite surprised by Elle, I feared.

The rest of the night went by in a blur, but I made people leave by 11.

"C'mon, Ami! It's so damn early!" Elle protested, frowning at the diminishing crowd.

"You may not be enrolled, but I have school, and work, tomorrow! So say goodbye to your boy toy and go to bed." She cocked her head at my mention of 'boy toy' which I intended as Niall.

"Boy toy? And who would that be, Amelia Nicole?"

"Never mind!" I said quickly, ushering Harry and Zayn out the door. Eleanor laughed and said a quick goodbye, her arm linked in Louis' arm. Elle finally gave up and locked herself in the bathroom pouting, leaving Liam and I to pick up the garbage.

"Great party eh?" He said, throwing away the rest of it.

"Yeah, it was fun wasn't it?"

"Oh yeah, and congrats on making the football team. I'm sure you'll do great!"

"Aw, thanks! I'm really glad we got to see each other today." I replied earnestly.

"Speaking of which, I really don't want you to be bothered by.. you know. Just ask Eleanor or Perrie for advice. I'm sure they'd love to help."

"Alright, I'll try." I responded.

"Pinky promise?" He said cutely, taking a step to me.

"Pinky promise." I said, curling my pinky around his pinky, then reaching up on my tiptoes and kissing him on his nose.

"Good. I don't want you to get hurt. They do it to all of our girlfriends." My heart skipped a beat.

"Girlfriend?" I squeaked.

"Oh, uh, sorry, I thought..." He stammered, eyes wide. I laughed and kissed him.

"Don't sweat it, boyfriend."
