That Brunette And Me

Amelia just moved to Britain from a small town, after having a terrible relationship with a past boyfriend. She meets superstar Liam Payne, but can she get over heartbreak, the wrath of Directioners, and being in fame? Or will she break under the pressure?

65. Truly.

*Original POV*

Liam and I were just arriving back from a little walk on the Kona waterfront, talking over things. It took a bit longer than we thought, and it was already past ten by the time we arrived back at the house.

I was speaking as we entered through the door. "Remember that time when-" I stopped sharply, surprised to find Elle standing in front of us with her arms crossed.

"And where were you?" She asked snootily, sticking her nose up in the air a little bit.

"Out. Does it matter?" I replied, smiling. She paused, and glanced at Liam. That one look made my insides boil, and I was not staying for more.

I inhaled sharply and turned, my face grim. "I'm tired. I'm going to bed." And with that, I walked off. I heard Liam following me, and I appreciated that he was keeping quiet.

He finally spoke after I brushed my teeth and put on my glasses and P.J.'s.

"Elle's just worried about you, babe, just like you were about her. Don't worry about it."

I sighed, turning over to face him. He was facing me as well, his brown eyes searching and knowledgeable. I knew he was right, but the fact was still buried very deep down. Perhaps too far deep.

"I know, but it's just that..." I paused, searching for the right words. "I don't know. She's not acting like herself."

"Since when?" He asked, sounding like some kind of therapist.

I thought back to just this morning, when she said something that seemed to trigger a reflex within her.

"This morning, she told me to go outside and get some vitamin D, and I said I didn't want to." I paused, thinking back to the conversation. What did she say again? "Oh yeah, then she was kidding around and said, 'Fine, die.'. But she looked so literal for a second it scared me. She has been fretting over me since then."

Liam's face flickered with something as well, and his throat seemed to clench as he swallowed hard. All he could manage out was a small, pitiful 'oh'.

"Are you alright?" I asked Liam, his face still changing with emotions. First it flashed with anger, then sadness, then resignation. He seemed to be considering something. And I sincerely hoped it was that secret, because I was positive it had something to do with that.

I wondered if maybe the secret had something to do when I got my accident. Maybe they paid for some surgery I wasn't aware of. I could feel myself cringing at the thought.

"You just cringed." Liam noted, smiling a little. I shrugged, not wanting to reveal it in hopes of not sounding stupid.

"I'm just sleepy." I stated, yawning to top it off. I turned to the side, facing the windows. Liam's arm wrapped around me as my eyes squeezed shut.

I wanted to sleep, I really did, but for some reason, my mind kept wandering off. It strayed away to the accident.

I tried to remember anything that happened before or after the accident, but nothing seemed off. Everything seemed to be in place, at least to me. So far, the doctors previous predictions have not come true. I was still scared of the thought, however, that I might not remember any of this one day, that all these memories will only be blank pieces of paper to me. Of no importance whatsoever. It was truly frightening.
