That Brunette And Me

Amelia just moved to Britain from a small town, after having a terrible relationship with a past boyfriend. She meets superstar Liam Payne, but can she get over heartbreak, the wrath of Directioners, and being in fame? Or will she break under the pressure?

98. Something's Off.

*Amelia's POV*

"Sugar muffin, can I use your phone?" I asked sweetly, touching his arm as I waited for him to hand over his iPhone. I wasn't entirely sure where the clothes I was wearing were, let alone my phone, so I'd have to settle for using his.

I dialed Elle's number, which I'd actually tried already when Perrie and Eleanor had come and visited me less than a half hour ago. This time, like all the other times, I still had no answer. I was beyond frantic by now, picking off my nail polish quicker than a flash flood. But, like Liam said, we couldn't do anything about it until she somehow contacted us, or someone else did.

"Sweets, I think that we should give her phone a rest," Liam said slowly, taking the phone from my hand. I nodded, looking down at my ruined manicure. I sighed, biting my lip as tears tried to force their way out of my eyes. "What's wrong?"

"My nails; I absolutely ruined them!" I cried, the tears rushing out in bursts. I hiccupped, covering my mouth as Liam shook his head and quieted me down.

"We can get someone in here to redo them, darling." He reasoned, but that wasn't the case. That wasn't what was making me upset.

"That's not it. It's just that Elle was kind enough to do them, and I ruined them, just like I ruined our friendship. Don't you see, everything and everyone I touch get destroyed, don't they!" I leaned back in the chair, taking deep breaths to calm myself down. I couldn't get this out of control right now. "It doesn't matter anyways, I want to go home right now. Can you take me to my apartment so I can get a change of clothing?"

Liam looked doubtful, but he still put me in the wheelchair. "We're going to have to sneak you out. I'll call Louis to pick us up."

I nodded, waiting as he called Louis. Soon enough, I was in the wheelchair, a blanket wrapped around me so it looked like I was just a bundle of blankets, and Liam was pushing me down the hall towards the front doors. Liam had somehow managed to find the supply closet, with an extra change of doctors scrubs and a facemask, so he was unrecognizable as well.

"I'm going to go wash these blankets at the Laundromat. I hope you don't mind I'm using this wheelchair." Liam said in a voice deeper than his own as he awaited an answer. I kept my breath held as I tried to peek through the small hole in the top of the blanket.

"We do have a washing machine here, Doctor...?"

"Washke. And they are full, so I figured I could take these to the Laundromat." Liam said quickly, as I snickered silently at his name. Incorporating washing supplies was probably not the smartest idea, but neither was trying to sneak me out of the hospital.

"Alright, you must be a med student here, right?"

"That's right! I'd better go now, goodbye!"

He wheeled me out, as I felt the cold, brittle air hit me like an ocean wave. I shivered involuntarily as they took the blanket off of me. I kept the one around me, to hide my hospital gown. I rushed into the car and buckled up, impatient to get to the apartment.

"Let's go, let's go, let's go!" I muttered, bouncing my leg up and down repeatedly. Louis laughed at me, started the car, and drove painfully slow to the end of the parking lot, before finally speeding up on the main roads.

We drove for another long while, until we were finally at the apartment. Liam helped me out, wrapping his arm around me as we stepped into the building. As much as I didn't want to, Louis and Liam insisted I used the elevator. So we crawled up in the rickety machine before stopping jerkily.

Liam brought out my keys, handing me my apartment key. I smiled, then unlocked the door. I looked around, smiling at the familiar room. But something was off. It clicked into place immediately.

"Oh my gosh," I gasped, my hand smacking my face as I covered my mouth. I couldn't believe it...

"What? What's wrong?" Liam asked, his hand still on my shoulder. Louis looked around the room, not seeing what was wrong.

"It's Elle; All her stuff is gone. She left."
