That Brunette And Me

Amelia just moved to Britain from a small town, after having a terrible relationship with a past boyfriend. She meets superstar Liam Payne, but can she get over heartbreak, the wrath of Directioners, and being in fame? Or will she break under the pressure?

50. Scenery.

We walked into the visitor center, checking out all of the cool factoids and things they had set up.

"Who's Pele?" Liam asked me, pointing at a large picture of the Hawaiian goddess. I smiled, thinking about all of the stories my cousins had told me. Pele was my favorite story, by far.

"Pele is the Hawaiian goddess of volcanoes, fire, wind, and lightning." I explained, pointing at the little story about her. The story states, summarized, that she once loved a man, but eventually he fell for her friend. She got so furious, she sent lava to cover them. That's pretty much the story.

"That's a bit harsh, wouldn't you think?"

I shrugged, about to move on to the next section when Elle yelled from behind. "Can we not look at this?"

I shushed her, before following her out the door. Soon enough, we were on a little trail that took us around to look at the volcano.

"What is that?" Niall screamed, reaching for the ground. He picked up a little shiny strand of something, his face horrified. I laughed, walking to him and taking it out of his hand. I knew exactly what it was.

"Oh, this is Pele's hair!" I exclaimed, examining the strand. Niall's face twisted again, looking grossed out.

"I just picked up a piece of hair?" He gasped, wiping his hands furiously on his shorts. I shook my head, laughing again.

"If you guys would've stayed to read the visitor center signs, you would've found out that Pele's hair is actually volcanic glass. It's when small particles of molten material are in the air, then twisted by the wind into the strands."

"Sweet!" His eyes lit up as he took the volcanic material from me. "It's volcano hair!"

I watched as everyone started to search on the ground for more Pele's hair, searching for the longest piece. I joined them, spotting a few glittering pieces. I took one and showed it off.

"Bet mine's the longest." I said proudly, showing Liam. He nodded, eyes wide.

"Whatever!" Louis snorted, still searching.

"I don't know, mate. Hers is pretty big." Harry shrugged, examining my piece. Louis rolled his eyes and kept searching. He seemed satisfied when he found a piece, picking it up and smirking.

"Let's measure them then."

So we held them together, and I was sad to find out mine was shorter. Louis yelled in victory, taking my piece and ripping it to shreds.

"I am the everlasting victor of Pele's hair!"

"Just by a fraction of an inch!" I retorted, crossing my arms. He rolled his eyes, walking away.

We all laughed, still searching for a longer strand. We kept walking along the trail before Eleanor pointed out the volcano.

"You guys, look!"

I looked up, and ended up staring at the flat volcano with steam rising out of it. It was absolutely majestic, with it's large crater with billows of steam spilling out. There were little pools of people gathered around, every once in a while streaming away back to the visitor center. I glanced over to Liam's face, and his eyes were fixed on the volcano, and his face was filled with awe. I realized his expression was mirrored onto everyone's face, including my own.

"Wow. It's.. wow." Zayn said, his eyes still set on the view ahead of us. I nodded in agreement, then proceeded to turn around and look at the rest of the groups viewing the volcano.

"Let me guess, you've seen it all before." Liam's voice was suddenly in my ear, startling me. I turned a little until he was facing me.

"Trust me, I'd never get tired of this view. It's stunning."

"Not as stunning as you." He murmured, making me blush a bit. I smiled as his arm wrapped around my waist.

"Actually, I think you outshine it all." I laughed, shaking my head. "I mean, you're the one that took me here."

"You deserve it."

I shrugged, snaking out of his arms. "C'mon, let's go check out the visitor center again. There's a seismograph there that you can record on!"

That caught Harry's attention, at least. "A seismograph? What's that for?" He asked uneasily, his hands stuffing into his pockets.

"Oh cheeky Harry, you know what a seismograph is." Louis laughed, ruffling Harry's curls. Harry grumbled, shaking his hair to the front of his head again.

"No. I do not!"

"It measures earthquakes, you cunt!" Niall ended it, bursting between Harry and Louis. "Now let's go check it out!"

We spent a good half hour stomping around, trying to make the biggest spike. We managed to find a group of people to try to jump at the exact same time. We ended up with a good size spike, outdoing the rest of them.

"We better go before it get's too late to do anything else." Perrie warned, glancing at the time on her cell phone. I glanced at my iPhone. It was already 3!

"No wonder I'm starvin'!" Niall complained, racing to the car. Elle followed closely behind, then the rest of us caught up. I hopped into the drivers seat and we began on our way to the Japanese gardens.

The gardens were located on Hilo, which was on the exact opposite side of the island than Kona, where we were staying. I knew that it would take over 2 hours to return, so I had to plan carefully. But first we had to stop for lunch before Niall exploded. After our little detour, we continued on our way to the less-touristy side of the island. This side was where the locals tended to live.

"Is this the way?" Liam asked warily, glancing at the time. It was only 3:50, I didn't see why he was worrying.

"Yeah, we're pretty much there." We passed under a large overhang of branches, until it led to a parking lot. We parked and filed out of the car. We checked out the gardens, impressed by the amazing rounded bridges and little Japanese style sculptures. We eventually walked the entire garden before deciding to leave on our way back to Kona.

"How long until Kona?" Liam asked, hopping in the car.

"About two hours. Add more or less, it depends."

"Let's hope for less." He muttered, leaning back into his seat. I was confused at why he seemed so angry, but I ignored it and drove out of the park. As we drove along the coast of the island, since it was the only way to go, we marveled at the twinkling blue waters.

"We need to go on a beach soon." Elle reminded us, pointing at a pretty little spot on the side of the road.

"Tomorrow?" I asked.

"Sounds good to me." Harry spoke up, after being asleep for a half hour.

"Liam?" I asked quietly, my voice almost silent over the banter of the other passengers. His head tilted a bit towards me, as he seemed to nod a reply. I swallowed, clenching the wheel tight. Was this going to be a long drive back?
