That Brunette And Me

Amelia just moved to Britain from a small town, after having a terrible relationship with a past boyfriend. She meets superstar Liam Payne, but can she get over heartbreak, the wrath of Directioners, and being in fame? Or will she break under the pressure?

90. Reminiscence.

*Elle's POV*

I put the finishing touches on Amelia's makeup, only attempting to brush mascara through her lashes, a little bronzer, along with a dusting of eye shadow. Liam's mom and dad, Karen and Geoff, stayed for a while, but they had to leave to unpack their things into Liam's place. So they left, leaving me brushing through Amelia's hair one last time, and Liam, who was staring at his phone with such an intense gaze, I was actually kind of worried for him.

"What's going on, Liam?" I asked, putting Amelia's brush that I'd gotten from our apartment down. I began to lightly comb through her hair with my fingers, deciding what to do with it. A braid, maybe a bun, or just leave it loose. I had some hard decisions to make.

"Huh?" Liam said, startled. He looked up from his phone, registering what I asked him. He grimaced, shutting his phone off. "Have you seen Twitter lately? It hurts, some of those comments."

I puckered my lips, concentrating on my fingers weaving through Amelia's brunette locks. I was going to do a Heidi braid, or a Swiss braid. "Yeah, I've seen it. I've been smart enough not to go find them and punch their faces in, to be honest with you." I chuckled, braiding Amelia's hair slowly and delicately.

"I'll have to agree with you on that one." Liam laughed along with me, turning his phone off and placing it on one of the small tables in the room. I bit my lip, watching my fingers carefully to make sure not to make any mistakes. I wanted her to look perfect for when she woke up. It was my goal, and I was going to achieve it, today.

"That looks really good, Elle." Liam noted, standing up and smiling at my hard work and dedication. I grinned back, still not looking up. These types of braid required good skill, which wasn't always my forte.

"Amelia taught me everything I know about braiding," I recalled, smiling as I started to reminiscence on the times we had together. Those sleepovers where we watched cheesy love movies, talked about boys and famous guys, painted nails, did spa treatments, and traded ideas for hair and makeup. It was something we did almost every Friday, and sometimes even more. Especially during the summer.

"Amelia and I did so much together," I grinned, shaking my head. I wanted to tell Liam about all of those times, so he knew the Amelia before she moved out here. "We had sleepovers constantly and talked about so many things; to be completely honest, One Direction was one of our repetitive topics, you lucky boys." I paused braiding to look up at him and wink, laughing.

"Glad to know you loved us before you actually met us, eh?" He winked back, laughing loudly. "Amelia told me some of this stuff. Mostly that you guys were basically inseparable."

I nodded. "That's right! Everyone was jealous of us. Of our friendship, of our hair, of our makeup, of our boyfriends, of basically everything. Everyone wanted to be us. Unless they were boys, then they wanted to be on top of us. But nobody dared to mess with Amelia, because of how protective I was of her. She seemed so... fragile, you know?"

"Yeah, I feel that way too, sometimes. But I think she's stronger than any of us really know."

I agreed, finishing up the braid. It was like a crown, making her look even more angelic than she already did. She looked beautiful, even asleep in a hospital bed. I took out my next project, grinning at my supply bag. Next up was some nail polish, since hers was all gone from the Hawaii trip.

I pulled out a baby doll pink colored nail polish then a mint nail polish. I also took out some bobby pins, lining them on her bed sheets. I started to paint her nails the pink color, leaving her ring fingers on both hands blank. I painted those the mint color. I let those nails dry, taking the time to look through my phone text messages and deleting the ones I felt were unimportant. I then took out a piece of paper and put drops of both colors onto the paper, being careful not to drip. I poked the end of the bobby pin into the mint, then began to create little polka dots on all of her fingernails, except the one that was already mint. On the mint colored nails, I put pink polka dots. Once I was finished, I watched them dry, smiling at my final creation. Liam was quiet the entire time, back onto his phone.

"All finished! Now we wait." I exclaimed, pushing my chair back next to Liam's, who moved to the wall back when his parents were still here. I guessed that they were still at his apartment, unpacking and such.

"My parents are going to stay at the flat until she wakes up." Liam answered my unspoken question, not even looking up from his phone. I nodded, taking my phone out once again. I ignored the fourth text from Niall, putting up the camera app. I clicked the picture button, and took a picture of Amelia's nails, then of her hair. I made a collage with some editing app I'd bought a while back, than put it on Instagram, labeling it, 'My masterpiece!'

I didn't care enough to actually see how many people liked it, so I turned my phone off, leaning my head against the wall. I was exhausted, for no apparent reason. It was still only 5 in the evening, but my eyes refused to stay open. I drooped backwards, slouching. Soon enough, I'd dozed off, my dreams consisting of baby doll pink clouds and a mint green ocean, angels with braids floating along, guiding me to my unknown destination.
