That Brunette And Me

Amelia just moved to Britain from a small town, after having a terrible relationship with a past boyfriend. She meets superstar Liam Payne, but can she get over heartbreak, the wrath of Directioners, and being in fame? Or will she break under the pressure?

29. Maybe I Can.

*Elle's POV*

I couldn't believe Ami dragged me into this stupid date. I didn't want to, I was supposed to be lazy today. I sat at the table, not sure what to think as I touched my water glass subtly. Niall sat next to me, his leg bouncing up and down crazily.

"Do you have to piss?" I joked, and Niall just smiled back.

"No, but that waiter is giving me the dirtiest look you can imagine." He snorted, gesturing to the hot waiter who was serving us.

Okay, maybe he wasn't the hottest ever, especially with that grimace on his face as he looked at our table. I raised my eyebrows at him, and his eyes flickered to my face. He looked down quickly and walked away. I laughed and decided he was some sort of prissy who got whatever he wanted.

"He's probably just afraid of you, Irish." I laughed, elbowing his arm.

I looked at Amelia, who was gazing at Liam with a look in her eyes I couldn't decipher. It looked like she wasn't even on this planet anymore, let alone this table. I felt a pang of sorrow as I realized I would never understand the way she felt. I was Elle, I never stayed in one place. I'd had tons of boyfriends by the time I was in tenth grade, while Ami was only on her second. She stayed with them for months, me for weeks. I could never be anchored down, and I used to like it that way. I wasn't so sure anymore.

"How's your food, Ellie?" Niall asked.

"This food is fantastic." I commented, smiling at the use of a new nickname.

"Mine is too," He said, taking a huge bite of his burger. "Delicious."

I laughed as a piece of lettuce got stuck on his nose.

"What?" He asked, looking seriously confused. How could he not feel that big piece of lettuce on his face?

"You got a little something..." I said, reaching out and flicking the piece of lettuce off. "Right there. Got it."

His pearly whites flashed me a small smile. "Thanks."

"Hey Elle, looks like you two aren't done eating, but Liam and I are going to leave. Is that okay with you?" Amelia asked, cutting into my thoughts. She smiled as I turned to look at her.

"Fine. Whatever."

"Do you mind, Irish?" I asked, turning to stare into his blue eyes.

"Not at all. Have fun you two." He said, turning to wink at me. I smiled a little, knowing Ami was too much of a goody-two-shoes to do anything bad. At least I could enjoy the rest of the night with Niall.

Ami and Li-Li left me and Niall to eat our meal in silence.

"So, do you want to come to my place after this?" Niall said quietly, looking at his food.

"Sure. Not for too long, Ami's making me wake up early tomorrow, to look for a job." I said, wincing at the thought of waking up early.

"Okay, no problem." He said, finishing up the last of his burger.

We then left the restaurant, after Niall insisting to pay for my meal. He took the card my parents gave me and hid it until the waiter came back and he gave his card. I tried to find it in time, but to no avail.

"Ha! I paid, now there's nothing you can do about it!" He smirked, handing me my card. I snatched it up and stood up.

"Shall we?" I stuck my hand out to help him up, which he took and pulled himself up. I was about to take my hand out of his grasp but he held it tight. I couldn't get it out!

We walked to his place, only making a few comments on things we saw.

"What do you think she's doing?" He asked as a lady with a worried look on her face and a phone in hand rushed by.

"I think she's going to be late for a work thing or something." Niall decided, looking to me for my thoughts.

"I think she's going home. Maybe her kids are at home alone and she's worried."

"I guess that makes sense."

"How about him?" I pointed at a guy who was standing on the side of the street. He looked homeless, his beard shaggy and had a long coat with a scarf hastily wrapped around his neck.

"Homeless. Probably did drugs, or still does."

"Yeah, that's pretty much the only explanation." I said, laughing.

We eventually made it to his place, and we pretty much immediately went to the kitchen and made some popcorn.

"Want something to drink?" He asked, opening the fridge.

"Water's fine." I said, not wanting to seem too fat.

"Okay." He got me a glass and we went onto the couch and watched some movies until about nine when Ami texted me.

To: Elle From: Ami

You should come home, you need to wake up early tomorrow!! (:

"Ugh. I have to go, Mother Ami is calling." I joked, standing. He stood up and followed.

"Do you want me to walk me home?" He asked sweetly. I looked up from my phone as I was typing a snarky reply to Ami. I shrugged, not sure and not wanting to be put on the spot. My heart beat frantically as he opened the door and led me out.

"Looks like I'm walking you home." He smirked, as his arm wrapped around me and pulled me along. I took a deep breath of the British air and I felt like I was home. Finally, I felt like I belonged someplace. And it felt wonderful.
