That Brunette And Me

Amelia just moved to Britain from a small town, after having a terrible relationship with a past boyfriend. She meets superstar Liam Payne, but can she get over heartbreak, the wrath of Directioners, and being in fame? Or will she break under the pressure?

80. It's You and I, Sleeping Beauty.

*Liam's POV*

It's been exactly a week since we first arrived at the hospital. Amelia still hasn't woken up. We've been moved to a more permanent room, which was a bit smaller and with less harsh lights. Also, the nurses are a little more solemn to me, staring at me sadly when they thought I wasn't looking. I was.

I stretched in the seat that I had been sitting in for the past week. My hand still clutched Amelia's frail, pale hand which seemed to be getting skinnier by the day. My leg bounced up and down as I watched the second hand of the clock tick by ever so slowly.

"Knock, knock?" Elle's head peeked through the doorframe, her little smile sad, but still a bit cheery. I nodded at her, my smile not reaching my eyes.

"Got my stitches out today!" Elle smiled, showing me her scarred leg. It looked much better than it did before, at least according to Niall. Also according to Niall, I guess Elle and him haven't been talking as much as they used to, which was disappointing.

"Looks pretty good! What did your modeling agency say?" I inquired, trying to sound as attentive as I could. I could tell she was a bit disappointed by my less-than excited mood.

"They haven't gotten back to me yet." Elle mumbled, hiding her leg once more under her long maxi skirt. I smiled sympathetically, patting her back.

"I'm sure you'll be fine." I tried to sound happy, but lately, I just wasn't feeling it. I looked at the clock once more, sighing when I saw the time; it was already past noon. I looked back down to Amelia, who's lips were still slightly parted from her timid breathing.

"Come to lunch with me." Elle said, standing up and smoothing out her skirt. I nodded, standing as well.

"We are going out." She demanded, her gaze bold. I shook my head, frowning.

"What if something happened? What if I wasn't here?" I worried, still shaking my head. No way was I going to leave Amelia here, sleeping. If that's even what you call it, since it seemed like a monster that just kept devouring at her, at my girlfriend, making her into some type of Sleeping Beauty.

"If something happened, I'm sure you'd be the first they will call. Now c'mon, your starting to get as pale as Amelia here." Elle tried to joke around, her light smile playful. I sighed once again, following her out of the room with one last glance at Amelia's small body.

As soon as we stepped out of the hospital, I was met with the blinding sunlight streaming through the crisp, summer air. I realized how much I missed the outdoors, and the brisk London air. I felt guilt rush through me as I remembered Amelia back indoors, having absolutely no fun at all. I shouldn't be this happy, I should be as sad as her.

"Promise me you won't shut down on people. You have a life, and I don't want you to waste it on sadness."

Amelia's voice rushed through my head suddenly as we stood there, Elle typing on her phone. I was utterly surprised, not understanding why her voice had come to me just then. Quite frankly, I'd forgotten the promise I'd made her. I definitely didn't keep the promise, since this past week I've been totally shut down. Hopefully she'd forgive me.

"Louis and Eleanor should be somewhere around here..." Elle murmured, her hand held over her eyes like a shield. I spotted their car, pointing at it with a subtle smile.

"There we go."

We walked up to the car, smiling as Eleanor rolled her window down, a goofy grin plastered on her face. I chuckled, swinging myself into the car.

"Glad you could join us, Li-Li!" Louis smiled, winking at me as he turned around in his seat.

"Glad Elle forced me to go." I laughed, receiving a light punch on the shoulder from Elle. We started to drive away, leaving me with a light, airy feeling. The guilt I felt earlier was washed away as I realized that this is exactly what Amelia wanted me to do. To have some fun.

"Where are we going?" I pondered, relaxing in the car seat. Elle just shrugged, looking to Louis and Eleanor for the answer.

"The first place we find, how bout that?" Eleanor suggested, her arm slung over Louis' seat in a casual way. He smiled at her, nodding at her answer.

The radio played softly in the background, playing a tune that I didn't recognize. It was quiet, but catchy already.

"I love this song!" Elle exclaimed, reaching forward and turning the volume up. I listened to the words, rising above the ukulele instrumental background.

"Oh, let's get rich and buy our parent's home's in the south of France.

Let's get rich, and give everybody nice sweaters and teach them how to dance.

Let's get rich, and build a house on a mountain making everyone look like ants,

Way up there, you and I, you and I."

Elle hummed softly along to the tune, looking out the window. I turned to look out my own window, watching the farmhouses whisk by quickly, and the other cars.

"Where's Niall today, Elle?" I asked, turning back to Elle. She faced forward, her face pouting.

"Being a grump." She shrugged, her face angry. I nodded, turning back around. Guess it was a sensitive subject to her. The car was silent for a while, except for a few more songs that I didn't really feel like singing along to. Not catchy enough. The one song, however, did stick in my head.

"What was that song called?" I asked abruptly, my eyebrows creased on my forehead.

"Which one?" Eleanor turned around, flicking her curls over her shoulder.

"The one that said something about a mountain and stuff." I said, shortening the chorus by a huge lot of words.

"You and I. If that's the one you're talking about." Elle answered, her face still angled at the window.

"Yeah, I think that's the one." I nodded, turning back to the window.

"Way up there, you and I, you and I."
