That Brunette And Me

Amelia just moved to Britain from a small town, after having a terrible relationship with a past boyfriend. She meets superstar Liam Payne, but can she get over heartbreak, the wrath of Directioners, and being in fame? Or will she break under the pressure?

19. Impact.

"One chai tea, coming right up." I said happily.

I was at work, and it was suddenly back to normal, like nothing had ever happened. I never got another text from Jake, and I called my cell phone service to block his number anyways.

"Ami, can you take that girls order? I'll finish that chai tea." Delilah called. Delilah was Matt's wife, who was a cheery, plump woman with blonde hair. She was the motherly type that made you feel at home.

"Alright. Welcome, what can I get you today?" I asked the guy standing at the counter.

"I'll take a green tea, please." he said quietly. I turned and got the tea bag and filled a cup with boiling water. I let the tea steep, and poured it into a travel cup, as requested.

"Thank you, dear." He thanked me, smiling. I smiled back and handed him the cup.

"Careful, it's really hot! Hope you enjoy!" I called after him as he turned away. He held his hand as a thumbs up as he walked out the door.

"Last customer! You, sir!" Delilah sang to a older gentleman, who in turn smiled a toothy grin.

"Why thank you, young ladies." He croaked slightly. He looked to be about 80 years old.

"No problem, Edgar, you're a regular here!" Delilah said back. She moved around the shop quickly, asking, "The usual?"

He nodded in return, then turning to me.

"Are you new here?"

I nodded, smiling.

He stuck his hand out for me to shake. "The name's Edgar, and I have gone here every day for 10 years." I had thought he looked familiar, I just hadn't gotten the chance to take his order, talk to him, or anything.

"Even our little fan incident?" I said, referring to the Directioner takeover. He laughed, and nodded.

"Even through that."

"Here you go, Ed! One peppermint tea, and one citrus tea. Enjoy, and say hello to Melrose for me!" Delilah handed him to two cups, which he clasped with bony hands.

"Thank you! Have a nice night, ladies!" He said, slowly going out the door. We called after him, saying good night.

"He had brought Melrose those tea's every night for ten years. It's crazy, but it shows how much he still loves her." Delilah said, shaking her head in wonder.

"What do you mean?" I asked, wiping the counters off with antibacterial wipes.

"Well, dear, Melrose died about 5 years ago. Citrus tea was her favorite, and they came here every day together. After she died, he kept coming. He places those teas on her grave, with a rose. They're always gone in the morning."

"Wow." I said in amazement. "That's insane, but it is the best thing I've heard all day!"

"Well, I've got to go, so have a great night, sweetie! Be safe on the walk home!" Delilah ordered, smiling sweetly. I nodded, promising to be safe.

I walked out into the cold night, looking both ways to cross the street. I saw a figure ahead, that I assumed was probably Liam.

"Hey!" I called, waving. He turned, seeing me and walking my way. I grinned and began to speed walk towards him.

"How was work?" He asked, now by my side.

"It was great. I just met someone who is insanely amazing." I said, then telling him the story of Edgar and Melrose.

"That's.. stunning." He said, bewildered.

"Crazy, right?" I said, stepping off the curb.

"Wait! Amelia!" He called, as I turned to face the road. All I could see were headlights, as I screamed. I felt the impact as it hit my abdomen, and I was flung backwards. Then it was an eerie black, right as I hit the ground.
