That Brunette And Me

Amelia just moved to Britain from a small town, after having a terrible relationship with a past boyfriend. She meets superstar Liam Payne, but can she get over heartbreak, the wrath of Directioners, and being in fame? Or will she break under the pressure?

38. Elle's Secret.

*Original POV*

To: Liam From: Amelia

Is Niall okay? Because Elle seems down. It's weird..

I was texting Liam, wondering what was up with Elle. She seemed depressed, like she had been a few years back. The summer of 2010, she had been super unhealthy. And it was all his fault.

No, not at all. Niall seems like he's just seen the light for the first time in days! (:

I frowned, confused. Elle couldn't be... Nah, she promised, and I trusted her. I used to trust no one, but if I had to trust someone, it was always Elle. Elle never lied, she was straightforward about most things. Maybe she was hiding more than I knew. But, I couldn't get it out of her easily. She would just deny-deny-deny, and that wouldn't help anybody. I'd have to investigate.

I walked over to Elle, who was sitting glumly on the couch, watching some stupid television show.

"Do you want some breakfast? I made some French toast." I said carefully. I didn't want to hurt her feelings or let on that I was investigating. I bit into my own French toast, relishing in the delicious taste of bread and butter. She shook her head silently, tucking her knees beneath her chin.

She needed to eat. She would go even further down if she did this. Is he contacting her again? Is this why she's doing this? What set her off?

I went into the kitchen and grabbed the cleaning supplies and decided to clean the house. I first stepped into the bathroom and squirted the disinfectant all over the sink, faucet, toilet, and tub. I let it fizzle down as I scrubbed them, making them sparkly clean. I sprayed them down, and they were clean as could be. I smiled into the mirror as I wiped it down, any mascara mark or toothbrush stain gone in an instant.

I moved on to the living room, where Elle was still sat, staring blankly at the television. I picked up a cup and set it in the sink, and began to dust the coffee table. I moved on to the small kitchen, doing the dishes and wiping off the counters.

By the time I was finished vacuuming, I was hot and tired. I collapsed onto the couch beside Elle and breathed a sigh of relief.

"Thank goodness that's done."

Elle just nodded once, and continued to watch whatever was on T.V. She wasn't one for confrontation, and neither was I. Neither of us wanted a fight right now. So I sat back, and was silent. If she wanted to talk about it, she would.

Knock, knock.

"Yours?" I asked, not remembering whether or not she told me someone was coming over, or if Liam said he would. She shrugged, so I got up and opened the door.

"Hey, is Elle here?"

"Hey, Niall! And yeah, she's on the couch." I replied, opening the door wider and inviting him in. He shuffled through the doorway.

"Wait, can I talk to you for a sec?" I whispered, pulling him back. He twisted around, nodding.

I stayed quiet, making sure Elle wouldn't hear anything. "Did something happen with Elle last night?"

"No, not that I know of. Why?" He looked worried, looking over my shoulder in the direction of Elle.

"She must just be having a lazy day." I lied, turning so he wouldn't see my face. My face always gave me away.

He walked past, and sat by Elle. I'd let him sort out what was going on.

"I'm going to finish some errands. See you later?" I called out. I grabbed a hold of the keys and purse and went on my way, waving behind me.

I walked down the stairs, the burden of a cast still connected to my foot. I managed my way down, then, right before the door, I reached into my bag and pulled out a pair of sunglasses. I then pulled up the hood on my large Hawaii sweatshirt and stepped out the door, ready for whatever beheld me. This time, it was pretty silent, with no paparazzi that I could see. I kept walking, my head low just in case. I clutched my cross body purse a little closer to me, making sure it was zipped shut.

I spun around, clutching my purse even tighter to my body.

"You almost gave me a heart attack!" I laughed, raising my hand over my heart. Liam stepped forward, catching up to me instantly.

"That's what I do!"

I smiled and kept walking, then looked over at him. "What are you doing walking around today?"

He shrugged, smiling as well. "Just out for a walk."

I nodded, agreeing it was the perfect day for a nice stroll. It was sunny, the first one of the near-ending winter season. Maybe I would be able to wear sandals pretty soon.

I imagined my sandals as we walked along, and he seemed unusually quiet as well. I shrugged it off immediately. I'm just as quiet as he is, so it should be fine!

"Are you worried about something, babe?"

"Well, the thing is..." I began, not wanting to bore him with my pestering.

"It's Elle. She's acting like she used to, when she used to be.." I faded out, biting me lip.

"Used to be what?" Liam urged me on.
