That Brunette And Me

Amelia just moved to Britain from a small town, after having a terrible relationship with a past boyfriend. She meets superstar Liam Payne, but can she get over heartbreak, the wrath of Directioners, and being in fame? Or will she break under the pressure?

31. Do You Care?

"I found one!"

I awoke to find Elle screaming and dancing around the room in just a shirt and pajama shorts.

"What are you doing? And what did you find?" I asked groggily. I hadn't seen her come home last night at all. I still needed to talk about her making a break for it, away from Niall.

"I am currently celebrating, which you should do as well! Because Miss Elle has got herself a chance to model!" She yelled, her hands raised. I shouted in agreement, and proceeded to jump up and dance in my pajama pants and shirt.

"I'm going there today at twelve, so I have exactly three hours to get ready." She planned, running to the bathroom and grabbing her brush.

"Do you have to wear anything specific?" I asked, opening her suitcase. She shook her head, then went inside the bathroom to finish brushing her hair.

I chose a baggy sweater from her suitcase with some jeans and a scarf. She took them gratefully and changed into them quickly as I got my phone and checked my messages.

To: Amelia From: Liam

Are you up for hanging out today?

I thought about the day, only having work for a few hours. I had to go in fifteen minutes, and I'd work until 1:00 in the afternoon.

To: Liam From: Amelia

Sure! I have to work from 9:45 to 1:00, so sometime after?

"Hey Ami, does this sweater make my boobs look flat?" Elle walked in, her eyes wide.

"Uh, I don't know? Don't ask me stuff like that!" I protested, turning. Elle pouted and got a yogurt from the fridge.

To: Amelia From: Liam

Sounds good! I'll pick you up from your work, and I'll take you somewhere.. (; Love you

I bit my lip to keep from smiling huge. I still managed to smile a little as I got ready for work.

To: Liam From: Amelia

Love you too (:

"What are you smiling about, Ami?" Elle questioned, her perfectly manicured fingertips spread across a paper form.

"Nothing. Now I need to talk to you Elle." I said, now serious.

"Um, what?" She asked, now looking worried.

"Elle, I know what happened last night. You can't have the whole Derek thing replay, and you know it. Niall's different." I said, standing up and packing a bag with my phone and lunch.

"Amelia, you know I can't handle relationships. It's just not going to work out. Elle is a relationship junkie. I get one, that get rid of it. It's just what I do." She said strictly. She didn't sound so sure herself.

"You're capable of more than that. I just don't want you hurt again." I said quietly, leaving the building.

"Good luck, Elmo!" I said, using a childhood nickname. I winked, and she glanced back, seemingly full of her own thoughts. I was hoping she was thinking about what I said. She deserved better than the usual man-whore she dated most of the time.

Work was uneventful, only a few Directioners came in, asking for pictures and signatures. I obliged, smiling at their iPhones and digital cameras. Matt just watched and laughed, shaking his head at today's crazy generation.

"Ami, it's 1:00! You can go now!" Matt said as I was wiping off the counters for a third time that day. I was super-sanitary.

"Oh, wow! That went by so fast." I commented, throwing the rag into the dirty cloth basket.

"Time passes fast when your having fun!" Edgar said, walking up to the desk. "The usual."

"How are you today?" I asked, slipping my bag onto my shoulder.

"I'm fine, what about you? You're the one wobbling around the shop on crutches." Edgar chuckled, pushing his thick glasses a little farther up his nose.

"It was a little accident I had. I wasn't looking, and.. yeah." I explained, resting my arms from the work of moving around. Liam was supposed to be here any second now.

"Oh, yes, Delilah told me. That's too bad. Glad you're memories back." He said, and I thanked him in response.

I sat down at one of the small tables to wait, sighing. I waved good bye to Edgar as he walked out with two cups in tow.

"Would you like something to drink, Amelia?" Lacey asked sympathetically.

"Yeah, I'll have a chai tea please." I said, my heart seemingly falling all the way to my feet.

She handed me a hot travel cup in a few minutes, in which I was still waiting for Liam.

"I don't want to bother you, or block up the store." I said sadly, sipping on the tea. Lacey just shook her head, making me stay.

I finished the chai tea. I even had tried to savor it, sipping it slowly, with minute intervals in between. I threw the cup in disgust into the trash and waved good bye to the workers.

"See you tomorrow." I said quietly, hobbling my way out the door.

I limped down the sidewalk, tears on the verge of down pouring on my face. When they did, I couldn't wipe them away, my hands were busy with my crutches. All I could do was sob my way home. I was so mad, I even used the elevator, afraid I'd fall down the steps. I was bawling now, stuck with the memories of Jake in my mind. He did this all the time. It started out sweet, perfect. Then, he was later, little by little. By the end of two months, I'd be by myself for hours at a time. And it was all happening again.

I got into the apartment and collapsed onto the bed. I cried for a while, until the tears were gone. I'm being immature, I decided, sniffling.

My phone began to buzz on the bedside table, and I glanced quickly.

I snorted in disgust and turned away. No, I am so not answering that!

"I'm being immature again," I groaned to myself, after all the ringing stopped. He called three more times before I decided to answer it, grudgingly.

"Finally you answer!" He said.

"Oh, well sorry I was kind of upset." I huffed back, tears coming back. And to think, he's the one who sounded angry!

"What's that supposed to mean?" He answered. I laughed, in a mean way.

"Hah. Yeah, Liam. That's great." I sniffled, laying back down on the pillow.

"What are you even talking about?" He said stiffly back.

"How about you find that out yourself, and you can try to see if I care." I yelled back, and I hung up the phone.

"Ugh!" I screeched, throwing my phone against the wall. I didn't care if it broke.

I just didn't care.
