A girl named Haley has had trouble her whole life with everything. Her life only seems to be getting worse, and she doesn't know how to turn it around. Will she turn it around? If so, how?

19. Love seat

I blushed when he said that and looked down at the sidewalk.  All of a sudden, he turned and started walking up a walkway. I followed him, keeping a couple paces behind.  He looked over his shoulder at me, slowing his pace to match mine.

"What's wrong?" He asked.

I shook my head.  "Nothing."

"Are you nervous?"

I hadn't thought I was nervous, but now that he mentioned it,  guess I kind of was.  I looked up at Jake's house and my breath caught in my throat.  As we were walking, I hadn't noticed what neighborhood we had wondered into.  Only now did I realize that Jake lived in the rich neighborhood.  He lived in the part of town where all of the houses were huge and taken care of, unlike my neighborhood where everything was small and kind of run down.

His house was huge.  I mean HUGE. I had to strain my neck to see the top of his house.  It was white with brown trim all the way around, and it had a wrap around porch.  There were tons of windows and every one of them had shutter.  There were hedges going around his house, and I saw a dog house in the yard.  It was nothing like I had ever seen.   Then it hit me.  This is why all of the popular kids wanted Jake to hang out with them.  Of course they would live in this neighborhood, and they would have seen Jake living here too.

"What do you think?" Jake asked from beside me.  I hadn't realized I had stopped in my tracks to gape at his house.

"It's... It's... It's huge." I finally managed.

He chuckled.  "I can see why you'd say that.  Come on," He grabbed my hand, leading me towards the front door.  "you haven't even seen the inside yet."

He opened the door, and i felt overwhelmed.  When you first stepped into the house, you stepped into an entrance way with staircase leading up, and doors in every direction.  He turned right, and we walked into a living room.  There was a beautiful fireplace with pictures placed on top of Jake's family.  There was a nice white couch setting in front of the fireplace with end tables on both sides.

I let go of Jake's hand and walked over to the fireplace, examining the pictures.  I had caught glances of his mom in the car a couple of times, but other than that, I'd never really seen her.  She was a beautiful woman with light brown hair and a dazzling smile.  It reminded me of Jake's smile.  Standing beside of his mom was who I assumed was his dad.  His dad's hair was a blondish color, and he was tall and muscular.  I looked back a Jake, who was looking out of a window.  I looked him over and realized he was more muscular than I thought.  I shook my head and turned back to the photos.

I looked at another picture with five kids in it.  It was taken in front of this house, and they were all smiling.  I found Jake, and I looked at the rest of his siblings.  He looked a lot like his older sister, while the rest of his other siblings looked like each other.  There was another picture of the whole family gathered around a Christmas tree.  I smiled while I was looking at all of the pictures.  You cold tell Jake's whole family really loved each other.

I turned away from the pictures and walked over to Jake.  He turned around to look at me, smiling. "Are you finished?"

"Yeah." I said, smiling slightly.  "Sorry."

"Don't be sorry.  Are you ready to see the rest of the house?"

I nodded and he held his hand out to me, giving me a choice this time.  I slowly placed my hand in his, feeling the warmth of his touch.  He smiled and squeezed my hand slightly, turning to walk into another room.

He showed me the rest of the house, and I was amazed by every room.  His kitchen was huge with brown cabinets and a fridge that blended into the wood.  His library was amazing, and it was filled more books than I could count.  His room was nothing like I expected, but I liked it all the same.  Being the funny laid back guy Jake is, I guess I expected his room to be unorganized and messy, but that wasn't the case at all.  His room was neat and tidy.  Almost everything in there was blue.  Even his bathroom was great and sparkled.

We stopped in his room, and he asked what I wanted to do.  When I couldn't come up with anything, he suggested we watch a movie.  We went down to the living room and he turned on the TV.  Since the couch was in front of the fireplace, the matching love seat was placed in front of the TV.  I sat down, and he sat down beside me.  I had picked a movie I had never seen before, and Jake told me it was a comedy.

The movie started, and we settled into a silence.  As I was watching the movie, I saw Jake look over at me from the corner of my eye. I looked over at him to find him smiling.

"What?" I asked, smiling slightly.  He didn't answer, but instead kept smiling at me. "Jake?  What?"

"Nothing.  It's nothing."

"No, what?" I said setting up straighter.

He paused for a minute, and I could see him thinking.  "I don't want to make you mad."

"Why would you make me mad?"

He cleared his throat.  "Well... last time... well... you got mad at me..."  He cleared his throat again and looked away.

"Wait," I said, realizing what he was finally saying.  "were you going to kiss me again?"  I was kind of upset by the thought, but I don't really know if it was in a good or bad way.

"What?" He said, looking back up at me.  "No.  I wasn't going to kiss you.  I was.. I was going to ask if I could put my arm around your shoulder."

"You were going to ask?"

"Well, yeah.  I've learned not to just do things with you."

I thought about that for a moment.  "I'm starting to like surprises." I said, scooting closer to him and letting him wrap his arm around me.
